Sonic Movie Thread - From a Disastrous Teaser/Trailer to Not That Bad a Movie; Got a Sequel

Blonde has to be Maria, though she looks too old.

Unless they aged her up to make their relationship more romantic. o_o
Did a quick google for Alyla Browne and she's 14, so that's about right for Maria. I would look up Maria's age in the games to reference, but uh...pic related.

EDIT:
Main cast is back, in case there was any doubt.

Will either Silver, Cream or Blaze appear in the Shadow spinoff or even make some cameo appearance in the third movie?
No way, that'd be too much character bloat, and none of those characters had any involvement in the SA2 plotline anyway (due to not even existing at the time)
A Cream cameo in some side material is at least concievable because of how little baggage her character carries (and Movie 2's prequel comic had Team Chaotix cameo so it wouldn't even be the first time), but Movie 3 might already need to introduce additional characters beyond just Shadow (like Amy or Rouge) to make the story work, and adding additional new guys on top of that would just confuse casual watchers.

I could definitely see Blaze working for Movie 4, though—the basic premise of Sonic Rush could be adapted well for a future film, especially since the movie continuity already starts throwing in isekai stuff from the get-go.

I can't say anything about the planned Shadow spinoff, especially since it's only a rumor, but none of the characters you listed really have much to do with Shadow (and 2/3 carry a lot of narrative baggage with them, even just conceptually) so I'm doubtful.

In retrospect, I still cannot believe these movies have not only been legitimately entertaining but kick butt as counter-programming. Nonetheless, I'm glad this film franchise is doing well - from what I hear even the cast and crew have fun making these, it doesn't act pretentious, and it succeeds in its aim to give audiences a good time. That's a blessing in this day and age.

I'm curious: how does Japan take these films and Jim Carrey's Robotnik in particular?

Objectively speaking, the first is a pretty average kids movie and the second is a more gonzo sequel that takes more risks and is better overall even if there's a bit too much fluff. The fact that's the worst you can say about them speaks volumes to how much Jeff Fowler and the rest of the crew actually give a shit. They'll never be high score darlings, but they're serving the fanbase and general public well and will continue to do so as long as they stay sincere.
