Another song from a sonic game I haven't played in well over a decade popped in again.
I like how heroes (and shadow) have a few tracks that are basically just remixes/variations of the SA2 eggman theme while still being new songs somehow. Despite how much it continues that sa2 energy music wise, you aren't even actually fighting robotnik... but that's another story tied to the twist everyone already knows that's already hinted at as early as the over 2 decade old game's opening.
Oh god, it's been over 2 decades...
If we're showing funnis, I got a funni to show too.

I know the exact sprite this is a reference to, the goofy holograms set up in some stages where it shows metal sonic squishing the squirrel. I don't know if there's an in lore explanation for those but I always liked to think he just left those around to piss sonic off given at the time those "animal buddies" were like his friends despite them being tiny and a slightly different artstyle closer to the flicky games.

Whoever made this did a really good job replicating the classic sonic artstyle, much better than the current people hired by SEGA even.

so yeah. ken penders really was honestly the reason why the archie comics sonic series ended.

so @NerdShamer and @MarvinTheParanoidAndroid let me know if i get anything misaccurate on this.

so ken penders' legal cases were taking a toll on sega and archie's partnership. and not only that, his legal cases encouraged others to do the same. like karl bollers

Ian Flynn and Tracey Yardley, who have been carrying the archie series on their backs. decided to reboot the series after the sonic and mega man worlds collide arc in the form of the super genesis wave. taking out all the characters and concepts that ken penders, karl bollers, and others made and made the series more faithful to the video game series.

unfortunatlely, more lawsuits showed up later on after that, and sega got fed up once again. they decided that the best way is to completely end their partnership with archie comics and start new with IDW publishing. they made comics on teenage mutant ninja turtles and transformers.

even the series' writer Ian Flynn and and artist Tracey Yardley decided to leave archie comics for IDW for the new sonic comic book series. because honestly, they know thats what the fans wanted.

the fans were saddened and others angered by the archie series ending. they turned their anger to ken penders. they blamed him because he's been mooching off the sonic archie series with his legal cases. and his legal cases even encouraged others to do that same thing. so he's mainly the reason why comic book companies should be extremely careful about their contracts.

Ken penders is kinda like chris chan. but if chris actually graduated from college, improved his art in a weird way for comic book standards, but retained his greed and ego.

In fact, penders got to do what chris wishes he would do. defile sonic with his headcanon.

so there you have it, Ken penders is a washed up comic book artist and writer whos been fucking around the sonic archie series like he owns it, his greed and ego made the series convoluted as hell, started filing legal action and began leeching off sega and archie for using his characters that encouraged others to do the same, which inflicted too much permanent damage on sega and archie's partnership and it got to the point sega had to end it.

Additionally, the reboot was HEAVILY neutered: All mobian characters were standarized, so no more radically different designs like the desert people having different sizes and looks from the jungle cats, and no really unique plots or real tension (since you knew Sonic couldn't be under threat due to mandates), as they were all recycled from the games, with the plot of Sonic Unleashed stretched to the rest of the comic until the end. Sally was of course no longer interested in Sonic or anyone else, but got a full outfit for what's worth. The cyborg rabbit was now an intentionally cyborg rabbit with no downsides, and the cowardly coyote was now mostly brave and swapped his duds for belts, kek.
Oh, and some of the rare humans showing up were black and/or women, curiously enough.

It was clear at one point that the comic was going to die as it had as it had half of the characters and plots ripped off.

Allegedly, Archie lost the writers' contracts and there were offscreen messy things happening, so Ken is not 100% to blame. He's to blame for sabotaging the 3rd season/movie of Sonic SATam though, as he wanted to peddle his own variation at the expense of the original but got rejected anyways.
He's still writing Sonic but by using Deviantart style terribad-looking characters. But hey, he has a wife and chil so he's already a bit better than Ian Flynn and Chrischan.

Well, nearly every field has their share of manchildren. But comparing him to CWC might be too big of an exaggeration

The version that I heard was that it was destroyed in fire while it was enshrined in a safe or something. But the only comics that I've actually read was the one that was in that Mega Collection game (or was it Gems?) My impression from the covers is that it went from something that you'd see from the "Adventure of Sonic the Hedgehog" into an autistically dark piece of fiction

Trailer's out for Crossworlds.

>Main gimmick is the leader on each lap can pick between two places to warp to which changes the track entirely
>Your vehicle transforms accordingly with Extreme Gears for air travel
>Fully customizable karts
>Gadget system to tweak stats etc.
>Jet the Hawk
>Closed network test soon

Was that dinosaur and pirate ship level from Sonic and the Secret Rings?

And it looks like Crossworlds is just referring to literally crossing worlds during levels instead of being a SEGA crossover and having shit like Kiryu and Hatsune Miku race with Sonic

Good summary. Just wanted to add a fun fact that the lawsuit led to a lot of storylines being canceled or altered. Flynn and his collaborators gave out some info on what they had planned to do before the reboot got hoisted on them.

The most interesting part to me was the Endangered Species 4-parter, which had to be altered on short notice. Certain characters in the storyline were won by Penders in the lawsuit so they never show up on panel and are never directly named. It also has a very bleak ending which involved Pender's characters getting trapped in an alternate dimension for all eternity.

Call me optimistic but I hope they add a bunch of some of the more obscure characters to this iteration. Alternate skins would be cool as well.

So basically team sonic racing but without the stupid team mechanic and a gimmick that will get old very fast.

Where the fuck is my Sega reps? No Ryu, no buy.

They genuinely think a fully-Sonic character roster is enough to compete with Mariokart. Apart from the novelty of the main Sonic characters, it's just going to be seen as a furry racing game by casuals. If SEGA wants their 'super games' to have staying power, this isn't the way.

Crash Team Racing had the appeal of being a remake of a fondly remembered game and being part of the mainstream Crash Bandicoot renaissance - it outsold TSR four times as much in the UK. A new Sonic kart racer doesn't have much going for it beyond being budget Mariokart/Mariokart at home.

Hopefully no more stupid shit like Danica Patrick .
