Is it kind of sad that despite this decade being Sonic's "renaissance" era, all the notable games are still rehashes?
<Sonic Frontiers rehashing themes from Adventure 1 and Cyberspace settings
>Sonic Superstars rehashing level settings from old games and literally basing a stage off of concept art for 1 (that was admittedly cool though)
>Shadow Generations rehashing themes from Adventure 2 and Shadow 2005 to an extent
>Crossworlds being rehash of Transformed but for babbies

Literally all i want is one more fully original Sonic game. There's only so many memberberries Sonic Team can pick before the supply starts to run dry and even the diehard nostalgiafaggots start to become fatigued.

Open-world Sonic was not a great choice. Sonic works way better when it's hub world and you explore for the level. If they stuck to that, which they were supposed to before adding 2 new islands and splitting up the main one, Frontiers would've probably been alright. The open world of Frontiers also acted as a hub for the cyberspace levels, but cyberspace was just a clunky mess and a boring chore to deal with, same with the missions of cutting grass and rolling bombs. The map challenges sort of made sense, but they were lazily designed and required no effort. The time trials for going from point to point was the only thing I remember being the only reasonable "challenge" to explore the maps. Combat was clunky, because you were locked out of your controls for a character that could always attack very quickly (SA2 and Heroes as prime examples), Unleashed had brief pauses, but was just as instantaneous to attack again.

The new Gens was just a waste of time in my opinion. They were clearly going for something safe, but still managed to create controversy with rewrites because Flynn hates Amy Rose and anything not his lesbian girl boss OCs.

There's apparently going to be a Sonic Bluey crossover according to this tweet.

I remember people back in the day calling the early 2010s era (Sonic 4, Colors, Generations) the "renaissance" era of Sonic and now outside of Generations people have soured on those games heavily. The same will probably happen to the early to mid 2020s era of games as well, I'm already seeing more people being negative about Frontiers online as of late.

SEGA specifically had several Japanese representatives monitoring the entire dub. That's why in addition to that there's Eggman going "Yosh!" when he cradled the chao.
So that's why the dub is so fucking good

The infamous fake emerald
That's literally just part of the plot and if you removed that from the plot it'd make no fucking sense.

Hence why i put quotations around "Renaissance". Even though the series is in a better state nowadays, that's largely because of the movie's success and Frontiers appealing to normalfags enough to finally get a decent selling game.

We already got Frogan, how much worse can it get from there?

I wonder why they completely dropped the whole "Sonic is in a band" thing from the initial concepts outside of like... Underground.
Sega of America didn't like it. In specific, CEO at the time Tom Kalinske didn't like the idea and thought him having a big-tittied human girlfriend was something they couldn't "get away with", so he made a bunch of requests to tone Sonic's edge down and make him more of a smart-ass teenager. Mark Cerny was acting like a middleman between SoJ and SoA at the time, and according to him when he first sent Sonic's design documents to SoA the first response he got was that it was so terrible they had nothing to say to improve it and was completely unmarketable and they going to get the guy who designed the California Raisiin to design their own mascot to show what Americans really like.

It's funny how vector survived that scrapping process.

A lot of the retarded (but funny) localization shit from early on is tied to sega of america's middleman nonsense IIRC. shit like "no no see he's actually an alien from the planet mobius because americans won't understand or like the idea of a funny blue creature beating the shit out of the teddy roosevelt guy that was one of the initial early planned protagonists reworked into the main boss fight"

Some good came out of it like the name robotnik and the schizophrenic media tie in stuff that was the only shit that ever made any use of the "mobius" concept that never showed up in the actual games outside the spinball robotnik base being on a mountain named mt. mobius and famous puyo reskin mean bean machine existing. Oh also the unused SATAM robotnik sprites in the files for the trackball sonic arcade game those are fucking cool.

gonna drink this wild cherry pepsi in honor of Tails
