So I've been watching the show here and there, currently, I am in the latter half of season 4.

There are parts I liked (bikers, dudes, violence and motorcycles, exploring this weird symbiotic relationship between Charming and the Sons, Kozik and Tig, the character development, Stahl because she was a cunt you just loved to hate, Potter because he's just so...weird but insanely foxy, Clay's growing heel-turn)

There are parts that I disliked heavily (THE ENTIRETY OF THE FUCKING IRELAND SHIT, accidental incest, horrible and incomprehensible accents, the meandering bullshit, the whole Tara / Jax drama initially, Tara in general, Jax too honestly)

I will keep watching however because for all its fault, I

Judging from this threat, I get the feeling that season 4 and onwards are like kinda trash and essentially go the way of Game of Thrones. As in; come the midpoint of the show, everything takes a turn for the worse. I am concerned.

So with that said, is Mayans worth watching?

So, the series finale was this week.

Short answer is no.

Longer answer - In the start, before Sutter was canned by Disney for being white(?), it felt like the series was broadly planned out like Sons of Anarchy. A beginning, middle, and end, but enough room to modify if they had to cut the series short or a plan didn't work out behind the camera. After, each season ended like some huge shit was going to go down at the the next but was either resolved in the first episode and went back to a tension level of 3/10, or like this final season that was set up to be apocalyptic, but spun its wheels until the final half hour when it was a train crashing full speed into a nuclear plant during an earthquake. Pacing was some of the worst I've ever seen.

And this just be a me thing, but I found almost all of the characters were so preposterously, irredeemably awful people. Yes, SAMCRO were gun running for Hamas to drug cartels and hood rats, but at least you could think that if they took a different turn at some point that they could have been relatively well adjusted people. It might have been inauthentic, but it gave them depth. These Mayan fuckers would make want to invent time travel to nail them as babies to a cross.

Mayans feels like something that would be right up Karen Traviss's alley with how much obscene weight was thrown against SAMCRO.

Potter is also the most unnecessary brand of obnoxious antagonist who, under any competent writing, would (and should) have been killed off well before the series sunset.

It’s already been answered, but no.

Essentially, I’ve learned that Sutter, for all his writing faults, is completely necessary for this universe to work. Mayans is the biggest waste of potential I’ve ever seen in my history of entertainment.

They must have let birds walk across their laptops for seeds to write that trash.

He really is a meh writer. I think SoA was more right time and right place than it genuinely being a good show. Having a more decent than average cast also helped.
