Sony has blocked the publication of a video game designed to teach male players psychological tricks to convince women to date them.

Super Seducer was scheduled for release on the PlayStation 4 on Tuesday.

The title has been criticised for being sleazy and for promoting "toxic behaviours and attitudes".

Sony has limited itself to saying it "will not be made available", but the BBC has confirmed the Japanese company banned the title.

Kickstarter had previously suspended the game's crowdfunding campaign.

Super Seducer has, however, been released for PCs and Macs via Valve's Steam platform.

The Motherboard news site was among the first to notice that the PlayStation version had not been released.

"Without further details from Sony, we can't tell if the game has been removed as a moral decision or whether it was down to the quality of the title - though it has published some pretty ropey games in the past," commented Seth Barton, editor of MCV, a trade publication.

"While it's an unappealing title, I'm uncertain whether PS4 owners would be happy with Sony censoring the games they can play, especially as they can't go elsewhere to buy software."

Dating tips
Super Seducer does not feature nudity, but does show women in their underwear sitting next to its British creator, Richard La Ruina, as he delivers advice.

Live-action sequences show the author "grabbing" parts of a date's body and attempting to kiss a woman he has just met to illustrate actions the player should avoid.

His suggested techniques involve discussing immigration and trying to change a woman's beliefs.

The title's marketing campaign bills it as "highly controversial", but Mr La Ruina said he had been surprised by the scale of the backlash.

"I did expect a small segment of the population to take issue with it, just like they might with anything related to dating skills for men," he told the BBC.

"[It] has received a lot of negative coverage from people who have never played the game.

"They want to brand it sleazy, sexist, misogynistic, and even 'rapey'. I found it all very aggressive and not at all helpful. "

But one games reviewer welcomed Sony's intervention.

"It's not good to sell a product that pushes the idea that women are things that you can press the right buttons to win," said Ellen Rose, from Outside Xtra.

"Ultimately it's up to each platform to decide which games they want to sell.

"I don't know whether Steam will be as active - but because of the subject matter, it should at least make it as difficult as possible for under-18s to get."

Asking a chick if she likes almonds and wants to feed the squirrels will get you laid every time?

This "game" is hilariously bad. There's no way anyone's going to get any action from playing it. Are we sure it isn't a parody?

It looks like a polished Plumbers Don't Wear Ties.

It really does. It's hilariously bad. This is in no way a threat to real women. Anybody playing this unironically would never have any game in the first place and probably lacks the knack to develop any in the future. If they are insinuating that it adds to "muh rape culture" that's also a laugh.

It's just a silly and stupid game that might be entertaining to play as a gag at least once like Plumbers Don't Wear Ties. And the best part is that Richard La Ruina doesn't seem to even realise what a tool the game makes him out to be. But instead of laughing at him we are supposed to be outraged because the game is sexist.

"It's not good to sell a product that pushes the idea that women are things that you can press the right buttons to win," said Ellen Rose, from Outside Xtra.

What is every dating sim ever?

It looks like shit. Still, I hope console peasants enjoy being told what they can and can't buy by a global megacorporation. Apparently you can jailbreak it or something of the sort, much like the iThingies.

I watched dunkey's video and I'm still not sure if this game is trying to be ironically hilarious or unironically hilarious. Either way, though, I couldn't stop laughing and I will probably buy it when it drops to $2 on Steam.

The part where he sneaks up on the two women from behind the sofa had me in tears.

I feel Chris would love this game. He’d probably use it to try and find a new heartsweet just like he did with Sprung.

It's obviously a joke game. I can't even imagine the screeching in le current year if a new Leisure Suit Larry game came out.

this is power level, but in 2008 i bought the book by Richard (the nerd in the video) and tried to use his teachings. I cringe looking at this now. I actually did get a girlfriend though so that kind of spoils the "i learnt a lesson" part of the story. Richard the guru used to be very fat and made a lot of money on the stock market.

I guess this makes a Leisure Suit Larry dark and gritty reboot less likely.
Honestly I still can't believe we got Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude on PS2 a decade ago.

"I'm so glad we got these awful games banned as they come out, so women don't have to deal with this crap," said the girl as she took a sip of her cocktail laden with horse tranquilizers. Stubert had read the books and knew to nod along and be a good listener, to keep her prattling until the veterinary drugs took effect.
"I know, what women in this day and age would ever fall for that misogynistic crap?" he replied in agreement.

Chadtastic my friend

Someone should make a dating sim for chicks with the option of "stop talking and give him a BJ" in every dialogue tree.

It actually sounds like bog standard PUA shit. This is why puahate existed (the predecessor to sluthate and other incel sites on which Elliott Rodger used to post).

Why would I buy a shitty dating sim, when I could go out and actually talk to people?
Besides, I’m looking to save my cash for games like Spider-Man PS4 and a Smash 5 anyway. You know, games that actually look good?

I wouldn't be so sure about it being a joke game. The creator of the game got butthurt about one of the YouTubers he sent a review code to putting up a negative review. How butthurt? So butthurt that he filed a fraudulent DMCA takedown over it. He's also posted a bunch of tantrum comments on this YouTuber's review on Steam defending himself and calling the reviewer a shill (because he dared to link his YouTube videos in his Steam review of the game).

Surely if it was a joke game, or only made to trigger people, La Ruina wouldn't have been such a whiny child about a negative review.

The one thing PUAs have going for them is that almost all their shit does actually involve going out and hitting on chicks.

If you aren't a total dead loss of a human, this will eventually get you laid. There are, in fact, women out there who want a dick and if they're somewhere like a bar, there's a reasonably good chance they're in that category.
