You don't have a good console when there's less than 10 exclusives worth mentioning and a sizeable portion of your library are just remasters from the last system. It was a placeholder for PS5, and PS5 is a placeholder for PS6.

I have been wondering if Sony is going to plan PS6 again as a traditional console or are they going to pull off a page directly from Nintendo's playbook and make their next system a handheld hybrid.

I don't think Sony wants to go that route again since nothing can go head to head with Nintendo. Although, if it can do both that might be a game changer. Just give it games to play and not just remasters of PS4-5 games.

I would imagine the development of such a thing would be an even worse clusterfuck than how PS5 was developed.

And the way things are going, PS6 is a synonym for PC.

And even among that shortlist there's turds populating it, like TLOU2.

To play devil's advocate, the most charitable angle to spin would be that PS4 had a good number of timed exclusives. Although some of them were exclusive for less than a year like Judgement, others they lost were ported away quite late such as Uncharted 4. And if someone really want to suck Soyny's cock, it's possible to play the "PC doesn't count" game (a lot more difficult with Steam Deck's popularity, successfully consolizing PC gaming).

So while some mental gymnastics and technicalities can paint PS4 favorably at a glance, even the most ardent PS5 defenders like @Marissa Moira have an impossible task ahead of them. Junk like Forspoken makes Knack look good, so the best the PS5 can do is make PS4 look even more competent than it really was by comparison.

It does have some good exclusives, but it's such a tiny figure of them. I didn't buy many, but Ghost of Tsushima is a strong contender as one of the very best the console had to offer. But by and large, it never felt like a console you needed to buy. More so in hindsight. And most of the exclusives end up hitting PC anyway, so what's the fucking point even investing in the console?

PS3 at the end of it's lifecycle started getting trilogy HD remaster packs and those are fine. But then they recycled all of that and PS3 games into PS4 at it's start, and PS5 is the same thing but even more saturated.

I appreciate that PS5 can play PS4 as it keeps your library the same size at the very least, but a little too much focus is put on that and it should be the new games.

I don't take pleasure shitting on Sony but they've given me no reason to back them anymore.

I take great pleasure in shitting on Sony, personally. I've never been a console war guy, even as a kid (which is really the only time it's not cringe), but I want nothing more than to see woke companies crash & burn.

I'm willing to cut the PS4 some slack, since it used to have some exclusives. It released at a time when day-and-date PC versions still weren't just a given, and many Japanese games still weren't coming to Xbox, so it made sense to have a PS4. That's just not the case anymore. So many games have been ported to other platforms now that PS4's down to just a handful of notable exclusives; the only ones I care about are Bloodborne and Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise.

Good luck with trying. For shit's sake, how many times have they tried to copy Nintendo? A lot. Remember the Playstation Move? That's one of the more notorious examples right there.

If someone says that the ps4 is better than the ps3 is because they didnt play enough japanese titles, or smaller budget/psn games.
PS3 was also during the time where PSN had a free option for online play and PSN, which gave an edge over Xbox. We also had PS Home which had a slew of mini games you could play with real people, basically club penguin on roids. No more of that fun innovative stuff since PS4.

I don't think we'll be seeing PS6 for about 5 more years. Earliest I could possibly see is holiday 2026, but I think that'd only happen in response to Xbox launching early. Sony would probably want to avoid letting Microsoft get an early advantage like they did with 360.

6 years after the PS5 release seems a tad early, but you never know. PS3 to PS4 and to PS5 are split evenly with 7 years apart. But if there is a circumstance they need to capitalize on they may go earlier.

Pretty pathetic what this console amounted to when you're already talking about the next one.

Demon's Souls Remake... that's what it's amounted to. Everything else is available on the PS4 or other platforms.

Edit: Oh, and FF7 Remake DLC... for whatever fucking reason that was done.

Terrifying to think people bought a PS5 just to play that Intergrade bullshit.

Yeah, PS5 ain’t got much, so much so that fans are latching onto any rumor for content. As of now the system is good for Ratchet, Astro, and Demon Souls. Three whole games that are good, one of which is a PS3 title. I guess there is also Destruction All-Stars if you want a glorified tech demo.

Sony fans better hope those PS All-Stars Battle Royal 2 and Twisted Metal rumors are true. If I get those, and they are good, than the PS5 was certainly worth way more than the PS4. Otherwise, Sony looks to be screwed currently. They are spending more time dicking around with movie and tv expansions than the games their system needs to survive.

When was it you think they lost their grip on the industry? IMO it's somewhere at the end of the PS3's lifecycle going into PS4.

Sony was a juggernaut when all their focus was just shitting out games. Plenty were bad, especially on PS1 but they endlessly stacked the library and I feel had an even stronger grip with PS2 even up against competition with Xbox and Gamecube.

The PS3 was the downfall. Besides the hefty cost, they treated many devs like shit that era, or had many devs just leave. Insomniac took a departure from them for the first half of the PS4 due to wanting to be independent. Jaffe ruined his career with Twisted Metal 2012, then that Drawn FPS game. Druckman power played many of the creative heads of Naughty Dog out of the company. The guy who made Shadow of The Colossus was pissed with Sony apparently, and probably stopped working with them (Learned his anger was why Wander was not in All-Stars). Then you had the Japanese studios which were marching towards their grave till ending there recently.

In saying all this, the PS2 was were a lot of the problems really began though. Sony started strong but was playing catch up for most of the gen, leading to missteps like killing Parappa to be seen as hardcore and pushing Killzone to be a Halo competitor. I said it before, but GTA3 single-handedly killed the company with how much Sony tried to change everything to match it. I should also note that the deal with Universal for PS1 funding also bit them in the ass as Universal took Crash and Spyro away from Sony as compensation for their independence.

I completely forgot Killzone existed, and how fucking hard they pushed that for PS3 at launch. Even the PS2 version was a piece of shit so it's anyone's guess why thought it could compete with Halo.

And now they're saddled with keeping things exclusive... for a limited time and then it jumps to PC.
