And then the Switch crushed the PS4 :story:
True, but Switch is more of an early next-gen system. It's not the only time there's been a significant gap in time between releases in a given generation. TG-16 & SNES and Jaguar & N64 were also a few years apart but are still considered to be in the same console generation.

these fucks should pay rockstar billions of dollars for releasing gta only on consoles first. i have a ps4 (what a fucking piece of shit generation) getting dust and they will sell a fuckthon of ps5 in 2026

But didn't Nintendo make more money even though they didn't dominate in sales up until the Wii U because they didn't sell consoles at such a huge loss like Sony did?
Well, the Gamecube would actually been a loss for them due to lack of sales, but software sales made it up for it and allowed them break even and make a profit. Sony did nothing but lose money on the PS3, to the point where massive losses were blamed purely on how much money Sony lost on the PS3. By the launch of the PS4 in 2013/2014, the company was experiencing multibillion dollar losses, which lead to the company selling its PC business and spinning out its TV business as cost cutting measures. Meanwhile, the Wii were some the best years Nintendo ever enjoyed, in terms of profitability.

Sony was a trainwreck about 10 years ago. Spining off VAIO was done because it was a big money loser.

Right now PlayStation is their big cashcow so doubling down after PS3 was the right choice but they're dangerously lacking in business diversity.

The PS3 didn't drive profits in its own division but it saved Blu-Ray, which people were saying had lost the HD war before it even began*, and basically turned that loss into a huge gain.

*Both porn companies and Disney had come out in favor of HD-DVD because it was cheaper and those were the two biggest drivers of video quality upgrades back then. When Sony announced they were putting a BR player in the PS3 they both reversed course to get at that market share.

Nice, now those PS4 games that looked better on PS4 Pro and even better on PS5 can look even betterer on PS5 Pro! Even though you still won't be able to tell them apart at a glance, it's still big news!
What are you talking about? PS5 Super Ultra Pro will obviously run games* @ 8K 120 FPS with Ray Tracing on**
*only Spiderman 2 and Horizon 2
**only in horizon 2
