But that console also aggressively went down in price in a few short years which does not happen any more. On the contrary, I have yet to run across anyone defending this monolithic paperweight. You could say sony fucked themselves over hard that not even their haggard fanboys are thinking "hmmm yes, a lack of optical drive is just what I'm after".

At launch, a PS1 was borderline-experimental technology that you couldn't realistically get anywhere else at the time for that price, even in the PC space, with a healthy dose of exclusive software and peripherals to boot. This is just an embarrassingly outdated proprietary PC with a Sony sticker that doesn't offer the user much that they can't get anywhere else for cheaper, and that's including the pitiful games Sony has to offer today. The inflation argument holds no water in a completely different market; a Motorola StarTAC was practically a steal at 1000$ in 1996 when nobody had mobile phones, that doesn't justify a 2000$ price tag for a mediocre 2024's phone that does the same thing every other phone in the market does but maybe slightly better.

Same here. This broke people. There might be some that defend it publicly but they cry in private. These are big problems the PS5Pro has.

I think it holds some water but maybe about as much as a burlap sack.

I'm not entirely serious.

I really miss 90s tech where everything was cool and new and exciting. These days it's all an iteration on an iteration, barely worth looking into. I know it's going to be shit, I know every PS5 Pro game was possible on a 2011 PC disregarding incompetent developers, I already have 40 years worth of great games to play and don't need any more for the rest of my life which could end at any moment.
 
The regular PS5 feels like it tips over vertically without that stand, what are they doing not including one at that price point? Maybe the worst designed console of all time with those stupid curves
