Sony hate thread

I'm probably risking catching some tophats, but I genuinely hope every single journo that has used "BUT MUH INFLATION!" as an excuse for a retarded price gets skinned alive. If a majority of people say the price is too high, than guess what dog, it's too fucking high. It doesn't matter what your faggot nerd CHARTS AND GRAPHS say on the matter. God I want to chokeslam a journo into concrete.
I doubt you'll ever be criticized here for expressing a negative opinion about journalists. Remember, one of our unofficial mottos is "you don't hate journalists enough."

You (yes, YOU), would you like a Sony PlayStation 5® PRO? Available now for the low low price of leaving your mail-in ballot at your local Democratic party field office! While supplies last.
lol imagine thinking they need you to bring in your actual mail-in ballot instead of just having them printed in bulk (pre-filled) in advance by the thousands and discretely hauling them around between polling places as needed on election day in the trunks of modest, nondescript sedans.

hey those ally seems cool*
*check that they cost the same as a fucking laptop
i guess portable gaming is outside of my pricepoint lmao

ill find an old vita and hack that shit up

A total loss of $200mil in one quarter plus depreciation of the asset of the studio when they close it will not destroy them overnight but could very well trigger a shareholder revolt.
Yeah, it's a lot of money but for a company of SIE's size, it isn't going to kill them. It's a drop in the bucket, granted it's a big drop, but they've been filling that bucket with tons of shit already. SM2 only sold 11 million copies and that had a monstrous budget as well with another potentially massive marketing budget as well. The game may have been profitable at 11 million copies sold at $70 each but there's still that deal with Marvel that completely screws their profits there. Then there's the TLOU2 shitshow that also cost a fuckton and most of its sales were over a 2 year period, so a lot of the sales were heavily discounted. Then they had to remake TLOU1 and TLOU2 for the PS5, which both likely sold incredibly poorly while the Insomniac leak showed that for reference, the PS4 Spider-Man remaster cost them $50 million. Cancelling the TLOU Factions GAAS MP also probably contributed to them burning money.

Ghost of Tsushima is probably one of their few successful IPs at the moment and the fact that they finally caved and put it on PC is very concerning.

All Nintendo has to do is announce that the Switch 2 will play all of their own games at a minimum 1080p 60 FPS for less than $400 with the capability to push 4K (even if most games won’t go up that high), work with Nvidia for decent-looking optional AI upscaling, and they’ve already won.
Xenoblade 2 can't even hold 30fps at 720p and drops into the mid teens, you must be smoking some crazy shit if you think a console generation from fucking Nintendo is going to let that mess hit anywhere close to 60.

Just in case it might interest you, Steam is having a sale on the original LCD models of the Steam Deck. You can pick up a 512GB model for less than $340

Locked 30 would be a blessing for that game, it's basically held together with string, hope and dreams.

60 to 120 feels like less of a jump than 30 to 60, but is still noticeable, so I'd say that is where diminishing returns begin. People seem to think diminishing returns is when you can't see any improvement at all, it's when you stop getting your bang for your buck. Can you notice a difference between 1080p and 4k? Sure. Is it as noticeable as the difference between 480 and 1080? Fuck no. By definition, that's a diminishing return.
Right, I'm just going to say it: the arguments about frame rates are just console players coping. I literally never heard any of this bullshit about "diminishing returns" and "how much the human eye can see" until we got The Order: 1866 where the developers went on record saying the "frame rate of 30fps was more cinematic" despite films often being 24fps which was always the result of technical limitations and never an artistic choice. And no, going from 60 to 120 is not "diminishing returns". Diminishing returns is when you spend twice as much on a GFX card and don't get double the performance. Going from 60 to 120 is still doubling your fame rate and double the framerate means half the time between frames. Literally the only time you start reaching close to "diminishing returns" is when you get a frame rate higher than what your monitor can physically render, and even then a higher frame rate has benefits.

Also, the 1080p/4K comparison makes no fucking sense considering that optimal resolution varies by screen size and view distance.

Oh, I'd heard that shit going all the way back to the 90s. But the fact that those claims are stupid doesn't mean there aren't diminishing (and quickly diminishing) returns. If we get to the point where the Playstation 10 is running at 200 fps and the Playstation 11 marketing wank touts that games will run at 250 fps, that will be pointless snake oil beyond the human eye's ability to reasonably perceive.

Everything you can imagine is like that. Our senses are all limited and quantifiable.

What's more is that this is coming from a nintendo fan. I thought we were all clear on not stepping onto that "red ocean" market trap of striving for more frames! more resolution! that nintendo has clearly avoided on purpose. If anything, the dismal reception to the PS5Pro is a searing hot indicator that we just don't care anymore about getting 4k to 8k if all you have to offer is fucking starfield or cyberpunk.

The only time you get "diminishing returns" is when your screen is literally unable to render the amount of frames your system is outputting. Even than, a higher frame rate above the refresh rate of your screen still means lower input lag.

If my eyes and brain can't perceive what my hardware is outputting, it doesn't matter what my hardware is capable of. As I said previously, us digital audio spergs found this out many, many years ago.

Just because you can't tell the difference, doesn't mean I can't. Likewise, for something like a monitor, refresh rate is literally a measurable thing. This isn't some "capacitance" bullshit with wires leading into your speakers. So, maybe you don't notice it, but I don't know your setup.

Yes, I know about the coat hanger test, too.

It is that old saying: "The snowflake never blames itself for the avalance".

2 things:

1. This might not kill SIE but it will hurt the studio. Just like with ABK, do not expect there will not be layoffs to balance the budget. Some studios/teams/companies will be a bit more spooked than before.

2. You are assuming there aren't a ton of woke stuff like Concord pretty far in development. Fairgames is one and it looks like it costed about as much as Concord. How many more woke exensive games are in the cards for Sony? Can they afford for all of them to fail? What about consumer trust? And how many of them will follow on PS6? A crapload of customers were statisfied with PS4 and PS3 level of graphics. Many think the PS5pro is too much. How much will PS6 cost? And will people think the upgrade is worth it? They do not think that about the PS5pro or even the PS5. Sony is just sinking in quicksand now. It gets worse and worse for them.

lmao "I know all about bullshit snake oil products, but I'm different than everybody else therefore the snake oil is worth it for me and only me"

Buy whatever you like, chief. It ain't my money.

I love how Sony has started a race between the PC community to make builds with a top of 800 bucks with Jayztwocents winning using Micro Centers bundle and a 3060
It is quite a sight to see so many people just joining the PC master race, over this. Now we just need to get Linux up to Windows plug and play standards.
Fuck i hope Square just dump console exclusivity now. I am done with Sony's bullshit. Once the FF games get day 1 PC releases i am selling off their shit box. It can be someone else's problem.
