Have they said anything yet other than the initial "Sowwy, server's down, we don't know when they'll be back" they did like 5 hours after it began? The longer it goes, more likely it was a hack.

No, if it is a hack they’ll want to try and resolve it within 72 hours, otherwise their obligated disclosure will provide even worse optics.


Sony will have weighed things up, and it’s better for them to take all the heat of being silent then any admission of what the issues are.

Is PSN still down? I've only heard of it from The Professional unable to stream Red Dead Online as planned.


Somebody must've plugged a plug or somebody is trying to intrude with Sony's servers yet again.
 
Its probably unlikely, but I almost wish this was related to the KCD2 situation of it having most likely illegal child sexual content in the game files. If sony could get dinged for that, but they didn't want to outright deleted the game / remove it from accounts like concord, I wonder if they did that as a drastic solution til they make a better idea?

I know its probably unlikely but.....man I wish it was true, because it would be funnier than sony employees in cali breaking shit.

I also think it COULD happen, especially if sony was at the ax for distribution by law in multiple provinces. If you shut servers down, you could stall and say "people cant access the content" while not actually removing it, and maybe get time for a patch? delay, and maybe DODGE getting fined up the ass about hosting CP or whatever.

Probably an unlikely theory, but I don't think impossible.

The thing thats pissing me off the most about this outage is Gran Turismo 7. Actually not a bad game, theres a decent amount if content and different cars you can buy with credits you earn in-game. Whats the most annoying is if you play in Offline Mode, it removed all the cars youve earned/purchased, disables the credit system and gives you a locked specific selection of cars and tracks. It removes most of the content and makes the game stupid as fuck.

The other stupid thing about this is that people are complaining that we need a return to physical copies of games when the problem is (in this case) live service gaming, not physical copies.

I feel vindicated for not playing the original one. What a God damn mess.

As for the PSN outage, I wouldn't be surprised it is related to the layoffs. As to whether it the result of the actions of disgruntled ex-employees or some other external party acting out of spite even if not directly connected to the people being fired, it is anybody's guess but the timing is too on the nose not be related.

Maybe we're over-thinking it. Sony are retarded, so would anyone be surprised if they laid off some of the guys who ackshually did a job of keeping PSN online, and when a problem happened, they had no-one to call?
 
This is why I got a steam deck, a dock for it, and never looked back.

It makes no sense to have a console when you can have Steam on the go and hook it up to a monitor/TV or just be on a far more powerful desktop.
