You're right, I was thinking of bloom but the word escaped me. And I also think that I was mixing up the 60hz mode of ICO's european version with 60fps.Ico was 30fps and didn't have HDR, but it was one of the first games to use bloom. Shadow of the Colossus was uncapped so emulators and the ps3 can hit 60fps, but the PS2 normally hit in the 20s. It was also the game he meant when he said they did HDR on the PS2, its not real HDR in any way since its still using 8bits, but its fake 'eye adaptation' driving their bloom. Not sure what he meant about as a gameplay mechanic though, I guess the sword guiding you when you are in the light, but that's not really related.
The state of DEI is looking great!Oh boy, can't wait for little to no games again!
You mean herman hulst. Jim Ryan greenlit games, lots of them, supported VR2, had a different vision for the Pro and, with the impact covid had, knew that gaas were the best way to plug the gap.Sony is righting the ship after jim ryan tried to drive it into the iceberg.
No, I meant ICO. Of course it's not "real" HDR, but that's because you have bloom-like-fake-HDR like in ICO and, then you have the Half Life 2 "fake" HDR where the camera adapts the f-stop to the average light amount in the frame (and yeah, that's in SotC as well), and then you have real HDR where you actually send more than 200 nits to the screen. In ICO it's not strictly bloom, they reduced the resolution and the colordepth of the whole framebuffer to fit in the effect, it's not just static bloom.Ico was 30fps and didn't have HDR, but it was one of the first games to use bloom. Shadow of the Colossus was uncapped so emulators and the ps3 can hit 60fps (in a weird double buffered vsync way, so it tends to lock at 30fps instead), but the PS2 normally hit in the 20s. Its a muddling of terms. HL2 HDR is real HDR, but only internal HDR, and its what was used throughout the 7th gen till now, the internal buffers are 16bit instead of 8bit and thats where the HDR comes from, you need to map exposure and tonemapping and then any pixel outside of the exposure is bloomed. Display HDR or HDR output are yet another thing with the same name because its just gotta be confusing, where a 10bit image can be displayed to a monitor and still needs yet another different type of tonemappingthen you have the Half Life 2 "fake" HDR where the camera adapts the f-stop to the average light amount in the frame (and yeah, that's in SotC as well), and then you have real HDR where you actually send more than 200 nits to the screen.
SOTC on the PS2 was a somewhat failed experiment, it ran like shit on target hardware, and the IK system would glitch out frequently too. The PS3 port did it justice tho
Worst they're going to show some dogshit moba game made by former Bungie devs and gameplay of FairGame$.Oh boy, can't wait for little to no games again!
Yes, Sony, please push more live-service slop. It didn't work the past 100 times you did it, but the 101st must surely be the charm!Worst they're going to show some dogshit moba game made by former Bungie devs and gameplay of FairGame$.
It's not really a gameplay issue and I think its neat seeing a PS2 running something so impressive and beautiful even if its struggling for dear life at 7fps when a colossus knocks you off your horse and kicks up a billion dirt particles.I played the game back on PS2 and indeed as much as I loved it, the slowdowns were an issue. Decided to test it on an emulator.
I really wanna see numbers compared to development time with prebaked rasters, because ever since nvidia first pushed it to sell more expensive GPUs everyone was on the "bro it will make development some much easier!!1" train with retards who don't understand any of it picking it up and justifying triple the price and half the framerate with slightly better reflections in some puddles, and hardly different lighting most people wouldn't even notice in a 1:1 comparison, let alone in the middle of gameplay.I despise what has become of the whole computer graphics pipeline as of late because of the Raytracing snake oil.
What level of retarded do you have to be to not have cancelled this game by now? It was a joke from the second it was announced, just as bad as concord.Worst they're going to show some dogshit moba game made by former Bungie devs and gameplay of FairGame$.
Jim Ryan is just the fall guy, the whole live service plan was authored by Herman Hulst and Neil Druckmann and the Horizon and Last of Us live service games were supposed to be the crown jewels. Herman Hulst was entirely in charge of approving and preventing projects, if you couldnt tell from the 50 Horizon games he greenlit then it was also attested to by people from Bend studio who said he personally tried to get them shut down and said Last of Us was the only zombie franchise they needed.Hearing this state of play is going to turn everything around for sony. New young kratos god of war game and a bloodborne remaster. Sony is righting the ship after jim ryan tried to drive it into the iceberg.

I THINK I can explain it: They have a ton of shitty games being made for a long time. If they were to admit to the shareholders and investors that everything they worked on for half a decade will come out and be a Concord level flop, the value of the company will drop to an all-year low. You cannot admit that you have no good games on the horizon after you spent that amount of money for that amount of time for EVERYONE OF THOSE FUTURE FLOPS!!! If everyone of those games is going to pull a Concord, they are screwed. Better to put them in the backburner, greenlight a few good things to show the shareholders and investors (and hope they do not ask too many questions about what is coming out soon), quietly cancel the ones that are guaranteed to flop, focus on the ones that you can waifu-up and pray that Nintendo makes a screw-up with its new console that might delay their dominance while they try to make games that might save the PS5. And prepare games for the PS6, ffs, as you need half a decade per game nowadays. What level of retarded do you have to be to not have cancelled this game by now? It was a joke from the second it was announced, just as bad as concord.
Even SEGA knew to kill Hyenas in the crib but Sony just want to watch the trainwrecks pile up
Jim Ryan might have been the fall guy but he could have taken a better look at what Hulst was doing. If someone greenlights so many games from one IP, you kinda have to check things out.Jim Ryan is just the fall guy, the whole live service plan was authored by Herman Hulst and Neil Druckmann and the Horizon and Last of Us live service games were supposed to be the crown jewels. Hulst and Druckmann tried to force Bend and all the smaller teams they shut down into becoming support teams for TLoU and Horizon and then shut them down out of spite for refusing.

The name of the suppose MOBA is called Gummy Bears. I wish I was kidding. What level of retarded do you have to be to not have cancelled this game by now? It was a joke from the second it was announced, just as bad as concord.

It's crazy to see how far Bungie managed to get away with their bullshit. They can't handle one game and yet they have 2 other projects (Marathon in name only and Gummy Bears). The name of the suppose MOBA is called Gummy Bears. I wish I was kidding.
Its just a codename. The name of the suppose MOBA is called Gummy Bears. I wish I was kidding.
