I wish I could vote this 'winner' three times. Great point about DVD and BluRay

There should be no graphics options on console. Make the game one way, that's how we play it. Want more resolution? Buy a PC. want more FPS? Buy a PC. PC gaming should be more expensive because of the hardware, but cheaper software. Consoles should be cheap hardware and expensive software.
You don't want PiSSeR? What's wrong with you. Seriously though, the PS5 PRO is already approaching a midrange PC cost after online fees, other sony bullshit, etc.

Pisser is piss poor. Depending on what you class as a midrange PC (midrange 1440p or midrange 4k) you can pick up a powerful PC in the UK for £749. If you go second hand or build it yourself, you can get a very decent PC.

Just had a thought. China make all of the consoles, either in china or by proxy in countries they financially own. Tencent are making big moves, chinese developers are having success after success.

Could the next, affordable, yet powerful console come from China? Could a Chinkbox be launched to disrupt the industry in the same way Microsoft joined in to disrupt the Japanese market (Or Atari)?
Imagine China launching a console on par with the power of a PS5PRO for £399.

I pre-emptively wish this company nothing but losses and layoffs in case I don't make it for page 1000
Soyny has been limping along for far too long, and I hope I see both them and Xbox completely fall apart within a couple of years.
As long PC graphic cards cost keeps going up Playstation will do just fine. What can fall apart is nintendo, as we did see with the WiiU. When the normies and parents dont buy, the nintendo fanboys is not enough to keep them afloat.

Only NVidia is going full-retard on overpriced GPUs. AMD has even bowed out of the "performance enthusiast" GPU market because they realized selling cards for $500-$600 that can hit 95-98% of NVidia's flagship $3k cards' performance is a much more profitable (and easier) proposition.

I've been using a little Beelink PC with a Ryzen APU for months and it can play practically everything I've thrown at it. It's probably not as beefy as whatever they've packed into the PS5's APU but then again this one on my desk is about 3 years old, so maybe the current state-of-the-art APUs can beat it.

This thing was $300 and it can easily play 90% of my Steam library at comfortable framerates. Plus it's a PC so it can run whatever else I want it to beyond just games. As more people start to notice equipment like this, Playstation is going to lose even more users.

A 300 dollar pc might be okay for your usage, but most people look at it as the pc grandma use for here banking and no gaming, thats the reality.

I think it's because they focus on the market for deep learning trainings and inferences which has huge profit margins (and the cards themselves are much much more expensive than even the high end gamer gear), huge bulk orders exceeding their production capabilities, and it's generally better to do business with a big tech like Microsoft or Meta than retail customers.

Their loss. They want to pay a premium for that little Sony logo on their underpowered can't-run-anything-besides-games-they-don't-even-really-make-anymore PCs, that's on them.

Meanwhile 60 FPS goodness is mine.

Why would anyone trust sony with a handheld again after they actively killed Vita and fucked over both owners and developers on it by forcing people to stop releasing games on it?
Vita would probably STILL be getting games today if Sony didnt actively choose to force people not to release on it.
The sad thing is that even if Soyny makes the PS4.5P or whatever it’ll probably be ginormous as fuck. The thing I really like about the Vita is that it’s small, it’s about the size of my phone and not much thicker, yet every handheld released afterwards is this ginormous brick

On the bright side, Sony did something not gay for once and brought back the 30th Anniversary themes:

New Circana data out. TL;DR - The market is contracting.

NPD US March 2025
1-PS5 : 380~390k (-26%)
2-X/S : 170~180k (-9%)
3-NSW : 150k(-37%)

Xbox sales are picking up. NSW are about where you would expect. -26% for PS5. Good thing they increased the price to sell more consoles lol

I hate that "thoughbeit" ironic horseshit 4chan newspeak more.

"Slop" at least still has a definition. That ... random word garbage does not.
I’m pretty sure “thoughbeit” originates from the sharty.

I hate that “slop” has become Current Year synonym #536 for “thing I don’t like”. It used to have a very specific meaning.
Did it? It’s a word for detritus you feed pigs, I doubt it had any particular meaning beyond “low quality game for the lowest common denominator consumer.”

Even on PC, the majority of users are sitting in the 2K resolution range. These are the March resolution stats on Steam.

View attachment 7248328

The push for higher and higher resolutions while simultaneously developing SKUs of games for hardware that isn't capable of supporting it stifles modern game development, especially in large studios. It seems like it's damn near impossible to release games across this generation and the previous without major performance issues and compromises.
1440p makes sense for a monitor, for a TV you’d want 4K or even 8K. For portable devices you can get away with less than even 1080p.

It was previously “generic and mass-produced”. It was introduced to describe the mountains of AI art, then people used it for movie games/walking sims, then any game/movie that focuses on graphics, then “popular thing that I don’t like”. I saw someone in another thread try to argue that Mario Odyssey was slop for… some reason.

In my eyes, Slop is any product, or creation, sold for more than it's realistic value, or earn mores than what it deserves to earn, because paypigs and niggercattle will eat it up due to their retardation. Iphones are slop, TLoU is slop, marvel movies are slop.

Slop is a byproduct of hyper-capitalism and consumerist, niggercattle fomo.

Even though Sony never owned Crash I do wonder if they would've gone in their current direction if they did. They never had their own Mario or Sonic.
They didn't need it, in the early days they had so many good third party games that only came out on the PS1 since both Sega and Nintendo were catching up on the tech front. Rayman, Spyro, Crash, Lara Croft, PaRappa, so many good mascots that became synonymous with Playstation brand in it's early years. Now, nobody even knows them, certainly not your average soyny drone that only bought the 600$ brick to play Last of Us.

If they were smart they'd have bought the rights to Crash and cultivated it as a franchise to match Mario, it'd be a good long-term game plan. They could really use a stable of properly managed, popular legacy IPs to fall back on as their bread & butter like Nintendo's Mario, Zelda, & Pokemon. I know it's retrospective armchair analysis shit but it seems like common sense.

Oh, I was the first post on the 1,000th page.
