Sony hate thread

Yeah except the Japanese console industry bends to how things perform globally. The Saturn was killed after PlayStation took off globally due to Final Fantasy 7, it was neck and neck with the Saturn until FF7 came out. Hell the Dreamcast was killed after it's poor global performance post launch. It did fine in japan but the rest of the world not doing well sealed it's fate after 2 years.

The PS5 has a much larger digital influence than previous playstation consoles including having an all digital system. You're just going by physical sales of a singular region but's it's shown that Sony is more reliant on digital sales worldwide. So all the numbers you're posting are missing a lot of parts to make a 1:1 comparison.
What's the point when there's no prominent games to get a PS5 for?

So what, publishers released games towards the end of generation? What else are they supposed to do? Your point was that the PS2 didn't have games right out of the gate and likened it to the current situation with the PS5.
That's pretty much been true of all playstations is what I'm saying. For better or worse they've all behaved like this where early on there's nothing and usually by the second or third year things pick up and you get more frequent and consistent releases. It's always been like that for playstation. That's why I've remarked that the PS5 getting stuff like Tales of Arise was very out of the ordinary because it on average takes years for good RPGs to make their way towards a system.

Are people not counting the releases that got a last minute PS4 release? Because those still wound up moving a majority on PS5s in the end.

PS4 didn't get prominent games until two years after its lifecycle. This is nothing new when a new console launches. But, people can't even GET the damn system.

That is not true, that only started with the PS3.
It was true for the original PS1, after Final Fantasy 7 people then suddenly gave a shit about JRPGs. Prior to that, they were not under heavy consideration.

PS4 certainly didn't have good JRPGs that quickly and neither did the PS3. PS5 wound up getting them quicker than both of those.

Who cares about JRPGS? Get a PC or Vita.

Well I mean it's what the PS1 and PS2 was known for.

The US got it's first Ys game in 2003 since wanderers on the PS2. Many series also wound up having their last main numbered games on that system like Suikoden and Breath of Fire.

Honestly the Vita RPGs were not that good. Especially compared to what the PSP had to offer.

Not my style of game. I guess that's why I only had a PS2 and a PS4.

No it wasn't, not even a little bit. WE'VE BEEN THROUGH THIS BEFORE! MULTIPLE TIMES!
But it is true, Fina; Fantasy 7 was pretty much the Street Fighter 2 of it's genre, it opened the floodgates to making it's genre mainstream. You can even look at the worldwide releases of RPGs in general before and after it, they're very stark in comparison. RPGs were not the reason people were buying PS1's in 1994 and 1995 but two to three years after, yes it very much was.

Hell Final Fantasy 7's Original PC port only came a year or so later. after it first appeared on Playstation

If Horizon is anything to go by over 70% of the sales of that were on PS5. I figure GOW will be similar.
I'd be careful with that comparison since GOW has much broader appeal and a bigger fanbase.

Regardless, it could have been the system seller that Sony is afraid to release for some reason.

That's exactly what I mean. Even for the PS2 things like Final Fantasy 10 didn't come until much later. Usually by year 3 or 4 the system kicks into gear. Most of the games the PS2 was known for didn't come until later in the systems' life.
FFX came out 502 days after launch PS5 has been available 617 days and FF16 isnt coming for another year and even then it wont do as well

You are under the assumption that JRPGs always drive the console world and market, the PSX proved that wasn't the case and reality still confirms it. The PSX sold like hotcakes before FF7 was released because it had games. Toshinden, Ridge Racer, Wipeout, Tekken, Warhawk, Twisted Metal and lesser games(quality, not sales) like Loaded, Destruction Derby drew people to the platform and those were fucking release window games! People weren't sitting on their hands playing SNES until FF7 was released. Give up the JRPG supremacy fantasy, it died 25 years ago.

People keep bringing up Final Faggotry 7 as the killer app for the PSX, but in my opinion, the real killer app was Crash Bandicoot.
In May 1997, Crash Bandicoot became the first non-Japanese game to receive a "Gold Prize" in Japan for sales of over 500,000 units
As of November 2003, Crash Bandicoot has sold over 6.8 million units worldwide, making it one of the best selling PlayStation video games of all time and the highest selling ranked on sales in the United States.
The weaboo faggots just don't want to admit that a gaijin cartoon platformer has more mainstream appeal than their precious animu emo fembois.

Final Fantasy VII was practically the reason why the PS1 managed to stay afloat due to name brand recognition. Crash Bandicoot and Spyro The Dragon, however, amplified it twice more by making the games and (to an extent) plot more fun to immerse yourself into.

I say this even while acknowledging the history surrounding the FF series. If anything, Final Fantasy Tactics I thought was slightly better than VII. FF7 only gets mentioned because you probably saw it on a “1001 Video Games You Must Play Before You Die” list-kind of a thing.
