Should I care about the "game awards"? Beyond the meme potential and cringe value, it's just another incursion field for the hollywood pests to further pester and annoy niche and fringe-culture fans. Plus it's positively confirmed sony owns the whole thing and regularly showcases their latest spittle non-game or playable movie and tout it as the greatest achievement in history.
I'd much rather just pay attention to stuff like the GDC where the industry cretins actually bother to showcase how they plan to roll out their dumbassed monetization models alongside the latest in railroading gameplays so that players don't ever get to form an idea or thought before they're told what to do or fetch.

He's not wrong. The light is on when it's muted. It really should be off since the mic should always be muted, and removed, and thrown in a lake.
Same with the stupid controller speaker.

When you have the mic unmuted, the controller vibration is made weaker so the mic doesn't pick it up. At normal capacity it's already very weak compared to older controllers, so it's pretty pathetic.

Also, haven't tried in a while to know if it's changed, but last I tried playing a game with voice chat, PS5 wouldn't let you hear the voices from your TV speakers; they only come from the controller speaker, which is extremely quiet even at full volume. I'm sure they'd BS some technical or privacy-related reason for this if asked, but it's obviously to make you buy a headset when you otherwise wouldn't want to.

Having voice chat come out of your controller is dumb if the speakers don’t go very loud. Like I can see the rationale behind it, the sound should come from something closer to you like your friends are actually in the room next to you instead of coming out of the TV and making it hard to hear the game.

Controller speakers can be a fun gimmick if you know how to use them. The wiimote had a built in speaker and there was this horror game called Calling where ghosts would talk to the main character on the phone. During those points you’d hold the wiimote up to your ear like a phone and the ghosts would say spooky things to you through the speaker.

In spite of having the trailers published on the official Playstation's youtube channel (alongside of D3 Publisher's), Samurai Maiden ended up selling more on Switch while the PS4 version has a larger retail stock left in japanese stores (as shown by the green bar). The PS5 version didn't even chart in this latest weekly Top 30 of 11/28 - 12/4.

I've bought the digital deluxe edition on the japanese eshop last week and I've been liking it so far. Not something I'd recommend full-price unless you like an old-school & janky type game sprinkled with yuri and featuring Takaya Kuroda (in the role of Oda Nobunaga), aka the VA of Kiryu Kazuma in Ryu ga Gotoku. I'd objectively rank it much higher than Senran Kagura though for the actual level design (with platform-focused levels) and the non-trivial difficulty even on Normal mode with a maxed out weapon. Chapter 17 took me several tries because someone in my team who could bring emergency health in tight situations was missing, and genderbent Uesugi Kenshin loves to bait the player into dodging like a DaS boss.

It's nothing mind-blowing but I'd rather have more of those niche "experimental" games coming out rather than your average high-budget shit. They're what keeps me into still liking videogames.

I used to not mind controller vibration, but as of the last 5 years or so, I've been having to make sure it's turned off as my hands really just can't deal with the vibrations for some reason. Makes hands hurt.

I never cared much for controller speakers either. I sure did love accidentally finding out it was a feature in certain games. I could be playing something on my television at a reasonable volume and then get the absolute shit scared out of me when my controller starts making inordinately loud noises at me out of nowhere.

Bullet Girls Phantasia from the same publisher (D3 Publisher) and studio (Shade) could fit that description as it was trying to see how much it could get away with the perverted stuff and it released on Vita/PS4 a few months before SIE started its witchhunt on niche japanese games. Samurai Maiden isn't remotely close to that or even Senran Kagura though, the girls don't strip in combat, the cloth damage is rather minimal, and only the DLC swimsuits (specifically for Hagane the cyborg ninja) could pass off as "fanservice".

Even assuming this isn't a shitpost, it's the kind of comment which reinforce my belief that western entertainment media has been sanitized long enough to make people (past my generation) think something as tame as Samurai Maiden is now "porn" just for the sin of having pretty female characters.

Unless this is has something to do with the graphics related to the game budget, then you're not familiar with japanese games in general. Earth Defense Force is what I'd consider the epitome of fun, with a simple formula (shoot bugs/aliens until there is nothing left on the sandbox map) and shoe-stringed budget.

Big ups for the thieves being complete shit bags and insulting them. Have to admire the commitment to being a complete piece of shit. As for the game awards... not that they matter... but, there needs to be a cut off date, for an entire game to be digested and graded. Ragnarok didn't come out that long ago, but already game of the year.
