Sony hate thread

Horizon games sell well, first did over 20 million units
Better question is why has such a meh game done so well sale wise.
That deserves a big, big  , considering it's from February 2022. They had already given away the game in console bundles, and then there was that one COVID giveaway where anyone could claim it for free, and also I guess double dipping simps who bought it twice when the Complete Edition launched. Giveaways are the best way to inflate your numbers.

He doesn't know much about a lot of things at all, in general.
Some Sony-related thread got necro'ed not long ago, and it was amusing to see Marissa Moira's take (alongside of Jim Ryan's) from 3 years ago not aging pretty well.

I expect him to reply to me, claiming he and Jim were right all along (by whatever mental gymnastic or convenient "pro gamer" larp), because he's that much of a sore loser.

Edit: Can't believe we reached 300 pages in
I guess the Wii didn't exist? That fucking spastic needs to be forcibly sterilized.

By the way, it's 2023 now, the PS5 came out in 2020, and I have still yet to see one on a store shelf.
I've seen one every week or two at a Walmart in the middle of nowhere. Are retards still buying them scalped for like $100 markup? I'm tempted to scalp them but I'd rather not risk being stuck with one of these paperweights.

I just googled this and FFVIII made $150+ million on it's first day on sale in Japan, so you're wrong about that.
It grossed 50 million in America alone during that same time period and not counting Europe. It was also rereleased numerous times including it's first PC port(not the HD release on steam) which was primarily bought by the west. Series like Yakuza and Persona went through a similar shift where you had some titles pull half and half for a period of time before the balance fully shifted and the west then made up the majority of future purchases. I think people forget that 7 and 8 had PC ports made while the original playstation was still current. By the time Final Fantasy 10 was released, the majority of the audience for Square's games were located outside of Japan.

I didn't ask for an overview of the games. What made them made for western markets and designed for western audiences
I thought I pointed that out after I got done explaining the systems.

What made Final Fantasy appealing towards western audiences was already there in the west. You had a few decades of both digital and table top RPGs that pretty much laid the groundwork. 7 didn't deviate much from tradition as far as the nuts and bolts of the game went, setting was more modern but it wasn't full on dystopia like Shadowrun.

What kept the likes of Might and Magic and Ultima from routinely gracing consoles, was storage space. PS1 has a ton of PC ports ranging from Diablo, to Myst, to Warcraft, Command and Conquer, to even games like Creatures. It was a system that could handle large games. It was pretty much just a matter of time before the RPG genre took off on the system.

Same reason the original Uncharted and Infamous sold

Sony fanboys desperate for content.

Well, that and Sony probably fudges the numbers through console bundles and sales like they did with TLOU.

I don't think anyone needs to worry about him ever passing on his DNA.

Sony saved a couple of cents on conformal coating and now it's a foregone conclusion that most PS5s are either in the process of leaking or have already leaked their metal cooling interface.
I was wondering if the series x would present similar problems but that thing runs at a lower clock rate so pajeetsoft just stuck a thermal pad on them.

And they don't even have that excuse the 360 had where the lead-free soldier caused the problems. Lol, lmao even. The PlayStation 5 is the worst console ever made.

edit:
I see RROD-level of malfunctions on the horizon. Every Sony product i've ever owned, from digital cameras to headphones to their consoles, was shoddily made. The last issue was the tiny screws inside of my PS4 being of such garbage quality that one twist of the screwdriver completly ruined them, a bitch and a half to get them out afterwards.

Edit: Shit, i had to flip my first-gen PS1 upside down to get games to work eventually and i knew many people who had this same exact problem. QC is anathema to Sony.
Shout outs to @The Feline Solution for calling it within less than a month of the metal cooling fiasco's discovery. Well done!

You know what, I double and triple checked, because I distinctly remember Final Fantasy 8 outselling the Japanese numbers in other places.

Square's official numbers are the following:
By March 2003, the game had shipped 8.15 million copies worldwide, including 3.7 million in Japan and 4.45 million abroad.

So yes the Japanese did not buy the majority. The further releases added up over time in western nations.

There is a market for Parappa though. Sony knows this as I have walked into game stores and found Parappa plushies and collectibles for sale. There is also that spiritual successor out, Scratchin’ Melodii:

This is also without mentioning Friday Night Funkin’. With a modest budget, a new title could do really well. Hell, the team wants to work with Sony again, but Sony refuses to let them make a new title since the PS2. Nowadays the gameplay and character design teams are split up and have/tried to develop their own successors.

Project Rap Rabbit was one such case. It didn’t receive the crowd funding needed to be developed as the character designs were not the same as Parappa due to the split, but it was the same gameplay team. The character design team would work on Major Minor’s Majestic March for Wii, a shitty game that clearly captured the art of Parappa:

Basically, all the pieces are there for a sequel, a fanbase and dedicated team. I personally think Sony is just being stubborn as it wouldn’t hit the exact sales they want, and probably something about how Sony is taking a more mature, cinematic, direction these days. In other words, they believe they are making ‘real’ art these days.

I think you answered your own question. The harsh reality is that businesses as big as these ones don't want to take chances unless the payout is absurdly big. FNF and the other examples you posted are neat, but they still haven't gained the success and popularity like, let's say, Dance Dance Revolution in the 90's.

The fans are not enough of an incentive to invest in a product. What these people want is for everyone, no matter if they even heard about the franchise, to buy the product.

Sure, there's exceptions when these companies deviate from the norm. But as the business gets bigger the chances are becoming slim.

obviously the west has more people than japan, literally everything sells more outside of japan

While I am going to speak more broadly, The Golden Bolt put it well in his PlayStation All-Stars video. Sony needed to change during the PS3. While they might have won in the long term, the PS3 was a dud with a lacking identity and PS All-Stars was the symbol of how their fanbase was too strained to make anything out of the company.

Since the Last of Us and Uncharted were the biggest PS3 success stories, they have moved towards shitting out a plethora of story heavy games to create brand identity. Why they fuck the Japanese studios’ games while promoting Horizon is likely due to this mentality. The PS3’s failings and PS4’s success has made Sony autistic about uniformity in a vain attempt to create the same simps as the big N. Ironically, this is slowly killing them as unlike Nintendo, they cannot use nostalgia to draw in customers as Sony shat the bed on capitalizing on Zoomer nostalgia past R&C with their retarded hatred of the PS2 & PS3. Hell, they cannot even grab kids as their titles are made for adult Soys.

SSM gets credit for being a secondary developer on many titles including large IPs like Twisted Metal. They are Sony’s go to support studio when the talented devs can’t finish on time or Sony tells them to fuck off like what happened with PS All-Stars.
I think the best way to put it is that Sony's become exactly like a typical Hollywood studio. Pump out the same kinds of "easy bet" thing, pump it full of "the message," and never risk anything new, especially if it isn't "diverse" enough.

Uncharted & Infamous were actually pretty good. I just replayed them for the first time in years, and they still hold up even if the sequels are better. It wasn't really until the PS4 era that Sony turned into the one-trick pony it is now.

It's baffling that Sony puts so much trust in SSM and Guerilla. SSM has never made a successful IP other than God Of War, every time they've tried it has been cancelled, maybe they're hoping for fifth times the charm?
I'm still pissed that Sony cancelled a new sci-fi IP from Santa Monica just so they could reboot God of War as a bland cinematic experience.

The Horizon games are sold as a bundle with the console.

Even Half-Life and its sequels did cuts, although they were in universe.

Seems like Sony devs just come up with a stupid idea, and instead of testing it out they just go straight ahead with production on it, and by the point that someone actually says "this is stupid" they have invested way too much time and money into it, so they just ship it anyway.
MGS5 did it as well and oddly enough it wasn't something anyone pointed out or even seemed to notice.
I thought I pointed that out after I got done explaining the systems.
Excuse me for being rude but look at this shit.

At this point you can't blame anyone for ignoring the long ass tangents. I asked "how were the games made for the west", your response was "I think this is the first game that showed magic and potions used outside of battle" among personal impression of character chemistry and romance? I know what Final Fantasy games are.

You asked for every game starting from 7. You got every game starting from 7.

To be fair, my assumption was based on that detachable disc drive retardation, an idea so moronic and failure-prone you wouldn't think a company with almost 30 years in the console-manufacturing business would come up with. The liquid metal cooling solution is equally retarded and i could swear i already read criticisms about it just months after the PS5's release.

FF7 is an anime as fuck anime game with a bishonen with a giant sword who fights another bishonen with a giant katana, half the game is kaiju attacks and Midgar is literally just "80s anime city"
Not only is the idea that it sold well because it followed western sensibilities retarded, it's especially retarded when you've been arguing FF needs to change to appeal to the western market. You're just incoherently desperately grasping

Not to mention other companies, like Capcom, tried the whole "appeal to the west" idea and look how well THAT trash fire turned out.
