I stopped giving a shit about Sonic after the Dreamcast died, not to mention the ONLY Sonic game that I liked after that was unsurprisingly Sonic Mania because it was made to look like a Genesis era Sonic game, and the fucking game wasn't even made by Sega...
I can't say I blame you really. Sonic is nowadays made for teh memes, as with the case of other dead properties such as Simpsons, SpongeBob, Family Guy, Pokemon, Garfield, etc. It's just remembered for shitposts and that's it. Even the company doesn't give a shit about quality with the franchise. They want to milk it before the cow gets too dry.

Amen to that. Most of Dreamcast's exclusive library if not all were pure late-90s/early-2000s sixth gen kino, like Seaman, Jet Set Radio and even ports from Arcade like Crazy Taxi.
Dreamcast had a certain magic to it that I have never seen with any other platform. Nothing even comes close. I figure it's because they just went balls out with it, knowing they were on their way out so they just threw everything they could onto the system and it turned out to be this unique, magical console. It had the best version of many 5th gen ports, and the library of exclusives were mostly winners. To this day I still insist Dreamcast was a better console than PlayStation 2.

Yeah, Sega nuked themselves with wildly terrible business decisions, but Shenmue will forever be a bizarre game I enjoy, and I will cherish it along with my other Dreamcast bros, for they are the only ones to know the plight of being completely unable to explain why we enjoy walking around Ryu's house and looking in all his mundane drawers.

I bet they lost a lot of fans after that. There were still some good games, Advance and Colors (DS) especially, but the inconsistent quality has probably done a ton of damage.

Launch week sales for Armored Core 6 in Japan ended up being pretty decent in spite of the circumstances surrounding PS software there. Wouldn't surprise me however if a good amount of AC6 sales in Japan were on Steam/PC too.

Funny coincidence, the Hotel Dusk Room 215 writer (Rika Suzuki who also participated in Trace Memories) is announcing a mystery game for Switch & PC/Steam called "Dark Auction - Hitler's Estate". There is a Campire crowfunding that will begin tomorrow, and the game should launch within 2024.

PS+ extra was a pretty good deal if you had a PS5, at the new price just a rip-off.

Premium was already overpriced with their half-assed emulation and lack of retro games, when Nintendo is able to do a retro game service better than you something is wrong. Many PS2 games are still broken on PS5. They did patch some PS1 games to allow the 60hz version, but took them a while to do that.

I have heard cope saying the price increases will lead to something like PS3 BC or a fuck ton of new games being added but let's say that is somehow the case, it still is a massive fuck up because why wouldn't they announce that at the same time to off set the bad press, the price hike is causing.

Think the real reason for the price hike is growth has slowed down on all subscription services, and companies can't merely be profitable but must have growth, so the only way they can think of doing it is to increase the price. All the services have went up, just PS+ case has the most insane price hike,

Don't blame Sega for no Mania 2, they tried to get the original Mania devs onboard for Superstars but they wanted to make Penny's Big Breakaway instead. Even then, they were still involved in the early planning stages for Superstars, and Tee Lopes is still doing music.
I know a lot of bad omens Sega has done over the years, and this isn't one of them

I wonder what the odds of such a thing being localized are, and how badly it'll be censored if it does. I'm definitely going to keep an eye on that, it seems interesting.

Maybe except for the GameCube perhaps? But yes, the Dreamcast was such a beautiful console
I love GC a lot, I prefer its library to DC's, and even had a GC as a kid but not a DC, yet I still feel like Dreamcast was more special. It's hard to quantify.

That's kind of insane... Imagine essentially being indie devs who love Sonic and get lucky enough to make an official game for Sega which everyone ends up liking, then just walking away from the opportunity to do a sequel, instead making something nobody cares about.

I can see where they are coming from, at least from an artistic/creative point of view.

If you love making something, and the end result of said thing has a good amount of passion given to it to where everyone can see it, then great. However, there also comes a high level of expectation to do more of that great thing you like to do. if you decide to just go for it instantly, you might miss your mark and it might not be as great as the first thing was, especially if not enough time was given to it (and considering they were working with Sega regarding the 1st Mania, time is something that Sega NEVER had... even with the O.G. Genesis Trio, they were always working on a rushed time schedule).

By doing something different, it gives the devs a mental break while still allowing their artistic vision flow on this brand new thing. It also can be beneficial for if/when they do return to the 1st thing they worked on because one the 2nd thing is done they will now have a whole new perspective on how to capitalize on making the 1st thing better than how it turned out the first time.

In a way you can compare it to people on YouTube that once made videos as a hobby but now tries to make money off of it heads towards a downward spiral of lackluster works, because while the production value (new software/tools, video structure, etc...) might be better, the passion, soul, and art is completely lost, because now you're on a schedule, and then you wind up actively hating the thing you once upon a time loved to do, and it shows in your work, whether it's something souless/formulaic/bland that a cooproration would make, or something so god-awful it pisses off your entire fanbase.

Penny's Big Breakaway is legit one of my most hyped games for 2024.

Good points, but I wonder if Sega will leave the door open or if they're just going to move on with stuff like Superstars (which looks good in itself, though I'd prefer Mania 2).

I don't think it'll be bad or anything, but it's no Sonic Mania 2. It is nice to see 3D platformers having a resurgence thanks to indies, I'll probably check it out.

Yea, this one sounds like nice breath of fresh air.

Even most indie 2.5D platformers like Pizza Tower are still great games.

Not even 3 months after and Final Fantasy 16 is confirmed to come out on PC, no longer a PS5 exclusive:
Square Enix has released a free update for Final Fantasy XVI, which adds a weapon-skin feature, Onion Sword weapon, and new outfits for Clive, Jill, Torgal, and other characters, as well as announced that both a PC version and two paid downloadable contents are currently in development, with more information to come before the end of 2023.

The news came via Square Enix’s “Voices from Valisthea” panel at PAX West 2023 in Seattle, which featured the English voice cast of Final Fantasy XVI. Producer Naoki Yoshida shared the announcements in a video message at the end of the panel.
Finally, while Final Fantasy XVI was released as a PlayStation 5 exclusive, we are aware that many of you have been asking for a PC version. So, allow me to take this opportunity to officially announced that development on a PC version is curently underway. I hope to be able to give you more information on both the upcoming downloadable content and the PC version before the end of the year, so please stay tuned.

This has been Naoki Yoshida, producer for Final Fantasy XVI. Thank you so much for joining us today for this panel with Koji and our wonderful voice cast. We’ll continue doing what we can to maintain the excitement and momentum for Final Fantasy XVI, and we hope you’ll stick with us along the ride.

Down to 10 now, Wikipedia jannies truly are fast. 5 of these are upcoming as well, the PS5 literally has 5 games, one is a PS3 game and 2 are VR only, and then the pack in game Astro's Playroom. Destruction AllStars is the only PS5 game is what I'm saying.

There is not a single game on that list I care at all about.
  • Final Fantasy VII Remake was a disappointment.
  • I'm not impressed with VR, and the headsets always tug on my hair.
  • Capeshit may as well be radioactive for how much I want to do with it
  • I don't like Souls games
  • Nothing else interests me at all
Xbox still wins because it has Rare Replay, like from 8 years ago, because gaming is in such an awful state that an old retro game compilation as the only exclusive still trumps the unmitigated garbage PlayStation is serving.
