I don't know about other people, but I grew out of "console wars" and white-knighting for an international megacorp around the time I got to middle school and realized that neither Sega nor Nintendo gave a single shit about me.

Seeing grown men fanboy for the AMD computer in the white box or the AMD computer in the black box makes me feel a ton of embarrassment by proxy.

The player base was steadily dropping off already (which is to be expected after a really strong release). However you can see an uptick pretty much every week-end since release, and a drop-off on Monday. Except this week-end, where the player count went down on Saturday, and again on Sunday. (The little [A] flag marks the account linking announcement).

It's either:

1) black dudes who love Playstation like a father (because they don't have a father)
2) terminally online trannies (who make the world worse for free all the time so this is entirely expected)
3) unironic fake accounts made to astroturf

Also I think there's a growing segment of console players who are getting upset because all the best versions of games aren't coming out on consoles anymore and they're stuck having to hold water for an objectively inferior experience. They've been looking for an excuse to whinge about the PCMR crowd and this is one of them.

People were coping online that the player count not dropping meant that no one actually cared and this was a fake controversy. I wonder what new cope they'll spin.

They've already confirmed that they're going all out on the next-gen Xbox. No one really knows what they're going to do but I highly doubt they'll exit the console space.

Rumours are a return to Nvidia+Intel for the nextbox. The funny bit is, MS pushed for BC with the Xbone and forced Sony to follow suit and BC fucked over both companies, but MS took it harder because of gamepass. There's no reason to upgrade over a X1X.

Between this and chinese shovelware I've become increasingly cynical of gaming.
I just let streamers filter it for me and only buy after i've seen extensive gameplay.

MS and Sony have no games. The ones that release are broken, mtx-riddled, chock full of niggers and faggots, reliant on DLC and patches to fix, all while making hardware more expensive and more pointless to own.

In the last year, I have cancelled Gamepass, Stopped using windows, refused to buy any next gen consoles and stopped playing consoles altogether. I bought a PC that I use to sail the seven seas and grab all of the games I missed out on.
The only entertainment I get from Sony and Microsoft are laughing at their fucking retarded decisions.

I'm starting to wonder if the Helldivers 2 dev has enough tangible proof to take Sony to court over this. A decision made by Sony and forced onto the dev, after that developer made a very successful product, completely euthanized that product's success and got the dev's product deplatformed. The dev's reputation is absolutely tarnished as well.

not a chance. That's not the kind of business relationship they entered into, for one. Second, Arrowhead KNEW this was a requirement from the beginning. They managed to get a temporary reprieve because the servers took a shit on release but that was all. They should never have let it go this long.

If you decide to fuck with a whore like SONY after they warn you they have the hiv, you can't pretend like you're the victim. There's a cost to the money you get from them. The people who get their game bricked because they could buy it in a place they can't get a PSN account is a different story.

the whole point of a console is ease of use and convenience, which most people don't/can't want to deal with when it comes to PCs.

PS1 was a success because Nintendo shit the bed by using cartridges for the N64 and pushing away third parties while Sega shit the bed by making the Saturn too much of a pain to develop for + bad launch timing in the US.
PS2 was a success because it was a cheap DVD player that could also play the PS1’s established library.
PS3 was a success because Sony could ride off the massive success of the PS2, and it was a cheap blu-ray player (yes, even at $599; this was 2006).
PS4 was a success because Nintendo and Microsoft both shit the bed in a bunch of ways with their respective systems.

Now that Nintendo is printing money faster than ever, Microsoft is involved in nearly every aspect of the industry as a whole, and the wider public finally sees PC as a serious competitor, the only people who still care about Sony are the ones still loyal to them for past successes. And most of those successes were default wins due to all their competitors screwing up.

There's still some bullshit involved there. MS will advertise their games as having Xbox to PC crossplay, but they don't specify that the crossplay only applies to titles purchases on the windows store. If you own their title through Epic or Steam, they will not have crossplay function with Xbox. I found this out the hard way when a bunch of my Xbox friends bought Insurgency Sandstorm to play with me and it wouldn't work unless I purchased the title again through Microsoft.
