The great thing with this is it shows the power the PC market has (it is the reason HD2 is as big as it is as well) when it goes against something like it just has.
I imagine a big part of it is the lock-in of having bought a console and having an account. Sony can say "What are the plebs going to do? Let their $500 PS5 collect dust and give up their library of games?"

Nah, it wasn't retarded. It was exactly what needed to happen and just at the right intensity. They were going to lock the rest of the planet that had bought this game out cause PSN is region blocked almost everywhere else on the planet.
I actually am letting my PS5 collect dust after finishing FF16. And I've been slowly rebuying most of my collection accrued during the PS4 days on Steam or GOG (at least for the stuff I actually do eventually want to play again).
to be fair that's sony's (or more jim ryan's) fault for going all in on moviegames. most people use it as a cod/fifa machine, if they even play games at all and not just use it as a netflix box (something that's also absolute ass on PC btw, another thing normalfags would care about). how much money has sony dumped into making aloy a thing? meanwhile they get constantly dunked on by smaller studios and newer IPs. in a way it's like chasing e-sports, it not something you can force.
might also be one of the lawyers finally checked his mails sunday evening to be ready for the coming work week and saw that clusterfuck of questionable legal actions, then dialed the right number to get it called off to not get reamed by courts all over the globe, let alone possible fallout with valve (doubt they're happy having to deal with that shit over the weekend).
