Now, despite SMTV:V being a port of a game already on switch, and despite the switch version having next to zero advertising compared to other versions, the switch version still dramatically outsold the playstation version. Several hundred thousand people in japan already own SMTV for switch, and yet more people showed up to buy a version that practically wasn't even advertised over the brand new ps5 version.

For what I think is a fair comparison, when Persona 5 Royal came to switch and ps5, the switch version sold ~50k, while the ps5 version sold only ~5k, so you can't say something along the lines of "well, of course it sold more on switch, that's where the audience already was!"

If monster hunter wilds isn't a drastic turnaround, it's pretty much over for ps5 in japan.

It's worth to mention that SMT5 Vengeance is priced exactly the same as its original 2021 release (9,878 yen as default), it's a higher fee than the usual RPG games in Japan.

And people over there are unlikely to spend twice the amount on a Playstation 5 (66,980 yen) to have superficial visual/framerate gains on the same games available on the Nintendo Switch (37, 980 yen for OLED, 32,970 for V2) which also does the job as a home console in addition to be portable.

Do expect the Switch version to have stronger legs in the long run too.
I don't even believe either Dragon Quest (the 2D-HD trilogy which is multiplat) and Monster Hunter can save the PS5 this late into its life cycle, after so many self-sabotages by SIE.

It's pretty fair to say the only saving grace for the PS5 is that GTA6 decided to do a console-only release at launch again. Whether that will save the PS6 remains to be seen but it's going to be really funny when GTA6 may end up having a worse launch than GTA5.

GTA5 released on the Xbox 360 and PS3 in September 2017. As of March 2017, there were 87.4 million PS3s sold. The most relevant data I could find for the Xbox 360 was 80 million units "shipped" by October 2013. Either way you slice it, that's probably somewhere in the ballpark of 150-160+ million consoles that GTA5 launched to. Meanwhile this time around the Xbox Series X/S is somewhere around 21 million as of last year while the PS5 is at ~50 million as of last December. So GTA6 is coming out in a year and the platform it's launching to is going to be potentially half the size of the platform that GTA5 sold to. So Rockstar's main hope right now is that either a higher percentage of the platform pickups GTA6 or that a lot of people buy consoles strictly for GTA6. The latter is definitely going to happen but it's going to have to be A LOT of people doing that to help Rockstar.

Because it has playstation on the box and playstation is the apple of gaming. A LOT of ps4pro sales were people with a ps4 already double dipping, and it'll be the exact same with ps5pro. All they have to do is increase some meme spec of the console that's cheap to boost that has nothing to do with current hardware bottlenecks, and use that as the sole metric for marketing "how much more powerfuler" the pro is over the base ps5.
