It’s probably going to be a Switch 2 launch title. But yeah, the only people I’ve ever seen complain about Samus are people trying to use it as a “gotcha” to strawman people who call out bad female protagonists.

Sony graciously includes a stand with both of the 30th anniversary consoles, so you only have to pay an extra $80 for it to work correctly instead of $110. They're so thoughtful.

The ironic part about the history of Metroid and Samus as a series is that when it was first introduced Nintendo NEVER advertised that the protagonist of the game was a woman, the US manual goes so far as to pull a bait-and-switch referring to Samus as "He".
The players only got to discover that she was a woman after beating the game under a particular number of hours, it was a secret that was revealed at the very end to the best players. The players who had gone through the adventure bonded with the character so this revelation at the end endeared the player to Samus even more because the character "spoke" through the player's actions.

It also important to point out that Nintendo never shied away from the sex appeal of Samus as a female character, it was even encouraged; the faster the player beat the game the more of Samus' body would be revealed.

Nobody has an issue playing as a badass female protagonist when there is an in-universe lore that explains why it is believable to do so. Samus is 6'3'', 200lbs
genetically enhanced human with alien DNA. She was also trained since the age of 3 to be a warrior. Metroid is a story set on a futuristic scifi setting where a lot of leeway is given for the audience to believe a female character can be extraordinary beyond normal.
The backlash Ghost of Yotei is receiving is because the setting that was established by the original game is rooted in historical authenticity. The concept of a female samurai on that time period already raises red flags, A normal human woman is not going to be a match against male enemies, much less other trained male samurai. Sony just doesn't learn.
IMHO this industry is just going to keep trying to create a "modern audience" by grooming a new generation of people with their slop but even kids are seeing through their bullshit. More studios and entire companies will need to go under and billions of investor's money will have to be burned before sanity is restored.

In other news the PC port of God of War Ragnarok had a mod in progress by someone named Comic_Fan that corrects the blackwashing of Angrboda. The mod wasn't finished as it was a model that turns Angrboda white and it was only up on NexusMods and GameBanana for barely an hour before the jannies sperged out and banned them for "racism" but it's still on basedmods.com as far as I know. We just need someone to finish the model and figure out how to install it into the game.
