Sony hate thread

What occurred for this to happen? Was it scalpers or something else.
Which part? The low PS5 sales? Probably not scalpers as PS5s have been widely available since late 2022. We even saw an initial burst of sales once they became widely available and then things tapered off - everyone who wants a PS5 probably has one at this point.

Kids just don't want consoles anymore and millennials are either dropping games, going casual with the Switch, or getting PCs if they want the true high-end experience. Steam continues to break concurrent user counts and it's going to be really hard to unseat people who've already switched to PC.

Kids just don't want consoles anymore
Kids want switch, they will want switch 2, they would want playstation and xbox if playstation and xbox had good exclusive games, they dont
What caused Playstation to sell like shit?
Filling your games with ugly faggots and niggers makes normal people not want your games
Filling your games with preaching about your extremist beliefs makes normal people not want your games
Your games being straight up broken piles of shit due to DEI hires makes normal people not want your games
Making 15 of the same live service game nobody wants isnt going to make anyone buy your console
and if you're putting it all on PC anyway so why would anyone buy your console to play it?
and on top of all that they drove a ton of japanese developers who were pretty much free exclusives away, forcing them to port to other platforms to escape censorship

People didn't just decide they didn't want consoles anymore, Playstation and Xbox fucked up completely and their decline is all their own doing

That pyrrhic victory for the X360's HD-DVD drive add-on just keeps on Pyrrhin'
Indeed it does. Hilariously, I think it took a long time for Sony to make an actual profit from Blu-Ray (DVDs were and still are the most popular), while HD DVD were both small parts for Toshiba and Microsoft. I think the whole point for HD DVD was to fuck with Sony to bide time for MS until they could release stuff like Netflix for 360.

I agree, but I also think the spread of PC hardware YouTubers and such have also introduced kids to PC gaming, and it means that consoles have been in a large dip recently. Doubt anyone's gonna buy the PS6 outside of the most diehard of Sony dickriders.

Verdict:

Buy a stand-alone player.

Nevermind the fact that you have to sign up for an account and give them your credit card info even BEFORE you actually use the damn thing, but they've been REALLY fucking ad-happy, to the point where they created a patent for injecting ads onto shows you watch that don't have ads in them.
Since i pirate 99% of my media i did not know about this peak, [muffled Nava Hagila playing in the background] judaism, absolutely disgraceful.

A bit more on thread topic: I remember saying in this thread not too long ago how one of my millions of years old DS4 is still working flawlessly but that's over now. Mouse broke a couple of days ago and i am using said DS4 as a replacement (via DS4 emu) until i buy a new one, mapped mouse movement to the left stick and scroll wheel up/down on the right and the stick drift is so intense that i had to push the dead zones up to 0.40 to make it usable without it driving me crazy. I played Like a Dragon:IW without noticing any drift at all so i don't know if the pad is finicky because of the emulator or if the pad is actually fucked, haven't tried it out in a game since.

Modern games are all designed around shitty first-party controllers that drift nowadays so most of them have some compensation for it. There's a few games I know of that don't though - Genshin Impact and FFXIV are the two I tend to notice it in first.

I was all set to rate this optimistic but if Schrier is saying it its almost certainly happening.

Edit: Oh yeah, Sony is also shutting down Neon Koi, their mobile studio. If you haven't heard of them its because they never released a game in their 4+ year existence.

Dear Team,

Today, I want to share some important updates from Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Studio Business Group.

We consistently evaluate our games portfolio and status of our projects to ensure we are meeting near and long-term business priorities. As part of our ongoing efforts to strengthen SIE’s Studio Business, we have had to make a difficult decision relating to two of our studios – Neon Koi and Firewalk Studios.

Expanding beyond PlayStation devices and crafting engaging online experiences alongside our single-player games are key focal areas for us as we evolve our revenue streams. We need to be strategic, though, in bringing our games to new platforms and recognize when our games fall short of meeting player expectations.

While mobile remains a priority growth area for the Studio Business, we are in the very early stage of our mobile efforts. To achieve success in this area we need to concentrate on titles that are in-line with PlayStation Studios’ pedigree and have the potential to reach more players globally.

With this re-focused approach, Neon Koi will close, and its mobile action game will not be moving forward. I want to express my gratitude to everyone at Neon Koi for their hard work and endless passion to innovate.

Regarding Firewalk, as announced in early September (An Important Update on Concord), certain aspects of Concord were exceptional, but others did not land with enough players, and as a result we took the game offline. We have spent considerable time these past few months exploring all our options.

After much thought, we have determined the best path forward is to permanently sunset the game and close the studio.   I want to thank all of Firewalk for their craftsmanship, creative spirit and dedication.

The PvP first person shooter genre is a competitive space that’s continuously evolving, and unfortunately, we did not hit our targets with this title. We will take the lessons learned from Concord and continue to advance our live service capabilities to deliver future growth in this area.

I know none of this is easy news to hear, particularly with colleagues and friends departing SIE. Both decisions were given serious thought, and ultimately, we feel they are the right ones to strengthen the organization. Neon Koi and Firewalk were home to many talented individuals, and we will work to find placement for some of those impacted within our global community of studios where possible.

I am a big believer in the benefits of embracing creative experimentation and developing new IP. However, growing through sustainable financials, especially in a challenged economic environment is critical.

While today is a difficult day, there is much to look forward to in the months ahead from the Studio Business Group and our teams. I remain confident that we are building a resilient and capable organization driven by creating unforgettable entertainment experiences for our players.

Thank you for your continued support.
