It really is. I’m baffled that ID didn’t just make RT optional and let the game run 100FPS on five year old hardware. Guess M$ Game Studios is allergic to money.

TL;DR - Sony sold IN 77.7 million units to date, tracking behind the sell THROUGH that the PS4 achieved. Sony now focusing on MAU, not console sales. The reason is obvious.

Sony are saying 18.5 million sold in beats expectations, yet they reduced their target from 24 million, to 21 million, to 18 million sold THROUGH. Sony are now focusing on the useless, pointless metric of MAU.

The cope is :
"Sony selling almost as many as PS4 is due to high price of the console."- If this was true, Sony would drop the price. it isn't true and they're clawing back as much money as possible.
"Just wait until GTA6 drops" - GTA 6 won't matter a single fuck and there will be a major price drop before GTA6 lands, I expect in the region of 50% drop in price to move units.

Sony continue to make retarded decisions which bite them in the arse, then like a downsyndrome spastic, continue to slap the dog in the face and crying when it continues to bite them in the arse.

The sony playbook is to dramatically overshoot their "estimate" in order to pump the stock price, and then every quarter "readjust" the "forecast" as quietly as possible to try and match actual sales ahead of the shareholder report, so if they're putting out a 15 million forecast right now, they've either completely changed how they do things, or they're foreseeing a catastrophic drop.

And yeah, ps5 is behind ps4, often by a significant margin, in basically all except 3 countries. US (and only because xbox has collapsed so dramatically, which was the burgerbox), china, and india.

The tariff situation is already resolving itself. Trump fucked China into the dirt so much that they caved. The UK has already made the first step deal. I don't think everyone will forget about this. Only the fanboys will. A good majority of the population is still really fucking mad at Nintendo.

I think you're dramatically underestimating the absurd scope of the things people, and also gaming journalism, are willing to let sony get away with. The ps5 is deep in its 5th year, and has a grand total of one actual exclusive to show for it, has had more price increases than game releases, and put out a $300 extra "pro" edition that doesn't fix the main bottleneck of the console and only offers better ai upscaling and frame interpolation, yet has sold nearly 80 million systems. Criticism of the ps5 is almost nonexistent outside of scattered enclaves, and even when a criticism goes more mainstream, it's forgotten within days. By monday, there will be more people still claiming that mario kart uses generative ai because it looks cartoony, stylized, and unrealistic than there are people even discussing that marathon unambiguously stole assets.

And the funny part of the forecasts is that it's sold in, as in, shipped completed consoles to shops. The demand has collapsed so dramatically, that even the fucking stores won't stock more in the warehouse.
I would love to see the real sell-in figure, because I bet it's around the 60 million mark.

I don't think it will. Sony can't move the PS5, so they've put the price up to cover for those that won't sell. Ain't nobody buying a PS5 to buy GTA6. I've no doubt the game will sell, but it won't have the legs of GTA5 or the universal praise. Even now, R* are desperately rewriting parts of the game to make it less woke.

I'd still wager over 70 million. Probably enough to be a sizeable bump to appease shareholders, but I don't think there are 17 million ps5s sitting in warehouses. The simple truth is that niggercattle adore the ps5, because the media told them to. Now, if you wanted to guess the number of ps5s actively used for gaming and not just netflix boxes and status symbols, I wouldn't be surprised if the number was under 50 million.

Combo of a rewrite and un-JEETing the code so they don't wind up like AC Shadows. I agree that it's probably not going to push the needle much on ps5 sales, but I wouldn't be surprised if it sells ludicrously well, even at $100+. The real question is if the GTAO replacement will actually stick. Not to say 5 wasn't successful, but a massive chunk of those sales were because the shark card that came with every new copy was often cheaper to purchase as a brand new copy of the game when it was on sale than to actually purchase it normally through the cash shop.

17 million sat in warehouses across US, UK, Europe and Asia isn't that much. You can walk in to any store in the western world and buy a handful of PS5's. Game, Gamestation, Amazon, a plethora of supermarkets. It isn't a big stretch of the imagination when it all adds up.

I agree with this. GTA6 will sell loads without a doubt, but the GTA:O2 will be a flop. It has to, from day one, generate the same revenue as GTA5 online, or more if they shut off GTA5 online.
I've no idea how they're going to balance it. I can only assume that's why the game will launch at $100 to cover the losses of the online component.
 
Can someone tell me the point of these new consoles? They seem like gimped PCs with none of the advantages of a PC nor a traditional console.

Normally here's where I'd say "It's like a midrange PC for the tech illiterate", but a midrange Prebuilt would be cheaper, and you have to be unironically retarded to not be able to setup a prebuilt.

Even then, that ignores the literally everything else a PC can do besides gaming/streaming, so at this point who the fuck knows...

I'm imagining that Trump winning caused them to delay it again, because I GUARANTEE you they had a Donald Trump NPC or a series of missions involving his policies from 2016 making fun of him. No doubt this new delay and this new direction is them trying to save face so they don't get sued, because they see CNN and ABC getting their shit kicked in.

They basically are, the problem is pc is getting worse at the same time too. Prices are out of control due to crypto farms even now, we've hit a pretty hard plateau in terms of power to affordability, and upscaling has lead to an absolute crisis when it comes to optimization, which is an advantage consoles always had relative to power compared to pc, only exacerbated in current times. I'm just glad I've got a backlog that can keep me covered for at least the next 3 years, probably more given how busy I am.

I mostly agree but I do think it'll move units. Rockstar is all-in on the woke from what I've heard, they have in-game Pride Parades and just having a female girlboss spic who kickboxes the shit out of men is woke as hell. It's a mess already.

It's convenience, no checking minimum specs, installing programs, fiddling with settings, etc. Just put the disc in and play.
