Sony hate thread

As much as I loved my Xbox 360, I would've loved to have PS3 around 08-09. I understand why I couldn't because of the high price at the time ($399-$499), but the marketing for it made it appear to be a premium gaming machine. Blu-Ray instead of DVD, built-in Wi-Fi, free online, backwards compatibility (until Sony removed it a couple years after launch to save costs), high quality exclusives that showcased the PS3's potential (Motorstorm, Ratchet & Clank Future: ToD, Heavenly Sword) showed that Sony could've been an early contender.
I've ranted about it before (so I'll spare everyone a repeat) but Sony had a monster of a powerhouse in the PS3 and they completely fucked up how they supported it. In terms of specs it was far beyond what its competition was equipped with, and they just didn't support developers enough (internally or externally) with comprehensive dev tools and training. Programming it was "different" from generic multithreaded programming and its GPU worked best when driven from the vector cores rather than the CPU, but that's not an insurmountable hurdle in the training process. They just didn't bother.

To illustrate the point a different way, IBM still uses Cell (the architecture of the PS3) in its mainframes today. The big expensive ones people still buy (well, "lease," since the cunts still won't actually sell you one). Despite what the term might suggest, modern mainframes are fucking monsters in what they can handle and do. And we had that shit packed into a $500 consumer-grade console with a Blu-Ray drive and player. And Sony somehow managed to fuck it up anyway.

I'm not bitter. :story:

I would argue it sucked DURING the PS3 era.

There was really no reason for there to be 15 bajillion different models of the same fucking system that not only removed features, but added them back in a limited capacity.
I still have a CECHA B that plays PS2 games and I'll never understand why that just wasn't the standard model as opposed to just neutering backwards compatibility or releasing shit on the PS Store. Or alternatively, fucking selling their old catalog of games that people show interest in or might wish to play. Shit like that just makes people emulate or skip old libraries, denying them potential money anyways. But thats just the tip of the iceberg when the PS3's library of games was limited to begin with.

Jim Ryan is gone thank God. Since that cunt was was responsible for alienating the Japanese market with his retarded policies and moving from Japan to CA was a very stupid idea.
Sony moved to CA before Ryan was CEO. That was under the guise of Andrew House and Kaz Harai.

Jim Ryan was correcting the course of the dip in quality at the tail end of the PS4, commission a powerful console to be made with Mark Cerny - who has since been fucked over and side lined, and was in charge during the best, and only good, exclusives of the PS5. He did greenlight TLoU:Factions and a few other GaaS projects but only as a stop-gap because of the delay in development caused by COVID. He knew to release a few GaaS as they were quick to make and easy to maintain, meaning 90% of a studio could flip back to mainline games while still supporting GaaS.
Ryan knew that fans wanted factions and twisted metal. Ryan pushed for VR2 and he knew the market was ripe for Sony to dominate. Unfortunately, he saw the writing on the wall and was the first to leave/be pushed out. Look at the influential people who have left since.

Herman Hulst is the one who forced Ryan out and is a fucking wankstain on the playstation name. Everything that has gone wrong this gen has been Hulsts' fault.

Ryan was done dirty and Hulst+co have blamed all of Sony's ills on Ryan.

Removing backwards compatibility for the slim and super slim was a massive L.
It never had software back-compat. If they'd kept the slim and super slim with BC it would have raised their prices by at least 80 dollars and made them less physically slim since they'd have needed to fit all of those PS2 components in somewhere.

Modern-day Sony is just feeding on the table scraps of slop dropped my niggercattle who are gorging at the trough of Nintendo.

The software emulator they eventually used for PS2 games on PSN was good enough they should've just let it play some discs with a whitelist, like Xbox 360 did for Xbox games. Would've beat the shit out of doing NOTHING. But they didn't get that then and don't get it now.
They tried that with SOFTEMU. They realized that their idiot playerbase would be fine with paying again.
