It's dumb (not as dumb as the Meta Quest 3S Xbox Edition), but they are optimizing Windows for x86 gaming handhelds to prevent SteamOS from spreading too far. They were supposedly working on a "real" Xbox handheld but maybe that's dead.
It fills a niche of people who want a gaming PC handheld but don’t want to mess with Steam OS, especially if they add a compatibility layer to play actual Xbox games.

So the Switch 2 will have Nintendo’s games and presumably the most user-friendliness and cheapest least expensive price, Steam Deck 2 will have an endless library of PC games through Steam OS, ROG Xbox Ally will have an endless library of PC games through Windows plus possibly Xbox games, and PS6 handheld will have… uh…?

The concept of a "real" XBOX console is dead. Microsoft already confirmed that the next Xbox is going to be running an optimized version of Windows under the hood but with a console like interface.

Even the next Xbox moving forward will have integration with Steam so it is 100% a Windows PC that probably will have compatibility with older Xbox gens via emulation, plus all the GamePass content as well. It is going to be a very attractive package for people that want a single machine that plays (almost) all your game libraries.

PS6 according to the leaks will have backwards compatibility with PS4 and PS5 so at least it'll have something to play out of the box if you already have a PSN account an a library of games on it. Ironically enough that's how people will probably get Bloodborne running 4K-60 with a performance patch.

It will not be a "war"; it will be companies failing to copycat Nintendo. Again.

Which is funny because I've mentioned previously in this thread that Sony's lack of originality is so profound that they'll be releasing a portable PS6 to imitate the success of the Switch. I was only half right because I wasn't expecting that a home console also branded PS6 would be a factor in this equation.

Oh boy, its real.. fasten your seat belts guys, we are in for a hell of a ride...

Oh my.. embrace yourself guys here comes some positive news from Soyny.

New Sony Patent Could Drastically Reduce Size of AAA Games
Oh neat, they've finally figured out how to compress all the spoken dialogue instead of shipping fucking raw 44KHz stereo data uncompressed? That shit often takes up more space than all the textures and geometry data.

Good luck with that. One of the more interesting facets of gaming on Linux with the Windows emulation layer is that it often runs faster than native. Not by much, but enough to be noticeable (3-5%). That's how shitty Windows and its display driver stack is. And that's with the nearly-30-years-old X11 or the much politically-maligned Wayland running the graphics stack on Linux.

Each Windows iteration has been losing performance, too. Again, not by much with each release, but enough to be noticeable. It's not a meme that people wanted to stay on Windows 7 for as long as possible on their gaming rigs. Windows 10 and 11 on identical hardware scores lower performance scores and yields lower framerates for the same software.

Microsoft better hope they've still got some White engineers after all the recent layoffs and jeet hires, or that the ROG folks do, because otherwise there is zero hope they'll be able to catch up with SteamOS on high-end hardware when the time comes.

I know Valve senses blood in the water.

Orion is about what I expected. A ps5pro sidegrade with a non-shitass cpu and huge emphasis on ai to do everything. Canis however seems like a bit of a pipe dream. People really don't understand just how much of a handheld's price comes from the fact there's a screen built in, which is why handhelds will never be cost competitive in terms of power with a standard console. The idea it's about to be more powerful than the rog ally x (leaked at 899 euro funny money) and NOT be ludicrously expensive, even more expensive than the home console, despite being significantly weaker? Laughable at best, pure copium if you're being realistic. Especially when you consider nintendo just have to swap out the parts on their existing production line. Xbox slaps its logo onto someone else's existing production line. Sony doesn't have a handheld production line anymore, and hasn't for a decade. There is going to be a significant financial hurdle just for sony starting production of this thing that others just aren't facing.

TL;DR
Get ready for an $800+ handheld weaker than a ps5 so you can play ps4/ps5/ps6 triple crossgen releases in 2030.

That's not going to happen. Sony is not retarded to do ps3.5
The PS5 pro already has a hard time selling at that price bracket so around a Switch 2 price would be more likely, probably cheaper than that considering Nintendo sells it at a profit instead of a loss
Valve had said it will take a while to release a second Steam Deck, but let's hope that they were lying, or something, or this will force their hand for something fresh sooner.
Considering Valve's track record on hardware like Steam machines, controller, & Index, I highly doubt there's a second one coming out.
If they're treating the Steam deck like a console then they should've made a successor by now with how it suffers in current day games
