They could've at least utilized their IPs better.
Microsoft could have utilized A LOT of things better, but they don't either because of sheer incompetency or they just outright choose not to.

Nevermind their PC OS division, they've been fumbling around since the 360 with the RRoD fiasco and haven't been able to find that perfect formula ever since. Microsoft, for some time as a company, has been nothing but a failure that no one has the balls to just take them out behind the shed and shoot them in the back of the head to end their misery.

I still can't wrap my head around spending billions to acquire an aging studio, learning (probably immediately) they weren't really doing very much, then waiting two fucking years to bother doing anything to stop the bleeding. How do you spend that kind of money and not make the simplest of sanity checks to make sure it's not just being pissed away?
Their main reason for acquiring Bungie was for their support and "expertise" on live service games and their monetization specialists
They were supposed to be helping out on the 15 live service games
the $3.6bn probably didnt seem that bad when they were spending $400-500m on each game or more
the problem is that every part of the plan from top to bottom was stupid bullshit and they still havent been smart enough to cut their losses and right ship
They have no use for Bungie now because the whole thing is a failure, all they have left is crying about Light of Motiriam eating their lunch when the Horizon live service is going to flop anyway. Hulst is going to blame that game, that's his last cope

Very bold strategy to make yourself reliant on china for growth (or more accurately, relying on them to stabilize yourself after significant losses in most other markets) and then get into multiple petty slapfights with tencent.

The funniest part is that Bungie then went on and deliberately sabotaged/cancelled the most promising games from the internal competition, to make Sony even more dependant on them.

Not that I think any of Sony's live service slop was ever going to make enough money to justify investment, they simply got on the bandwagon years too late.

They have no use for Bungie now because the whole thing is a failure
They also have no use for Bungie because Bungie is a hollow husk of what it once was.

Managment has driven away all the talented veterans to ensure they'd get as much money as possible from equity. They were planning to coast along for a few years, half-assing Destiny 2 DLC, until the clause triggered, and then they would have walked away with their money, and the money that was supposed to entice talent to stay with Bungie post-acquisition.

Sony basically got conned, and no one at the top is willing to admit to this because they know it would be their heads that would get rolling once the truth got out.

You know that the PS5 is an inconsequential leap from the PS4 since I could only name TWO first-party exclusives for PS5: Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and Astro Bot. I recall from PS2 to PS3; there weren't many (first-party) cross-generation games. I'm not counting sports games or even movie licensed games.

I don't know if COVID-19 contributed to lesser PS5 sales or Sony's arrogance, but there's little reason to get a PS5 if their games would be cross-generation and there's so many popular games still playable on PS4. Basically, pay $600 for ultra graphics.

Don't forget to buy a PS5PRO and then get excited for PS6 next year.

Console gaming died in 2010. It was a good run but PC is the only place to play games if you love games and not getting shagged by tiny yellow and indian dick.

Fairgame$ Has Been Canceled, Too, According to Michael Pachter, Who Says Sony Has ‘Lost Its Way’ (archive)
Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter is back with another episode of his Pachter Factor podcast, and he brings some interesting news: Fairgame$ might have been canceled.

While discussing Sony's switch toward live service games, which he criticized because of wrong moves such as buying Bungie for a lot more than they were worth in his opinion, the analyst casually said that Jade Raymond had been let go and her game, titled Fairgame$, canceled.
Some trash I forgot existed may be shitcanned.

I actually want Sony to make more live service, woke games. Saturate the market of that slop so that people will know that the people in the gaming industry are not qualified for that job.

Unfortunately, those staff that make the slop still find ways to get jobs in the industry, i.e. Jon Weenieskeet going to Blizzard, which is already a shell of itself, after Concord shit the bed.

Already debunked, he misremembered the story, as should have been obvious from the context of the rest of the statement.
Misremembered in this context means pachter was told to stfu.

Anyone thinking fairgames is releasing is kidding themselves. it will be shelved alongside marathon in a quiet "we heard you, gamers, we're sorry 🙏🙏🙏" Just like MS did during the early years of the Xbone.

He's actually not allowed to hold back information like that, as a financial analyst.

That's correct, if you were paying him for that information.
It came out years ago, right around the time Pachter disappeared, that what he said publicly was opposite to what he said privately to his paying customers.
