No surprise there. Making a whimsical, charismatic colorful and FUN mascot platformer would be "beneath them" Bunch of pretentious, fart huffing dipshits. Instead here is a bull dyke samurai stronk-female-I-need-no-man in the middle of feudal Japan simulator.
they havent made a sly cooper game in 20 years. i doubt theyre interested in making kids games anymore when they could make another infamous game. this isnt insomniac making a new ratchet and clank every couple of years. but they wanted to do feudal japan setting, so tsushima and yotei exist. probably might make a 3rd game set in the 1860s to cap things off as a trilogy (its the end of the samurai period at that point, so i can see it working)

it'll remain a niche product for those "in the know".
That's how all big electronics started The niche is rare, rare is valuable and people want to be one of the rare ones. That's the rule of scarcity that economics is built on.

If Valve want to sell a console to the masses, cheaper games and free online is a very good start. Sony has increased prices, so have Nintendo. If valve drop a 1080p box that can play modern games for £299 with free online, it will sell massively.

Give it a few years then drop a 4k SteamboxPro and voila, Valve are now pushing Microsoft and Sony out of the industry. Why buy a Playstation to only play playstation games for a fee, when Steambox has free online, a massive library AND playstation games.

I believe there's a concerted effort to take Steam down before they take down Sony and Microsoft.

That would help explain why Gabe was summoned to congress along with the Discord and other social media faggots. Valve does nothing to foster or foment or even support criminal grooming gangs or terrorists, so it was very odd to see congress rope him into that bullshit too.

i gotta give a rainbow to that, steam being slow on a few things happens like that entire refunding debacle but they always adapt to be consoomer friendly following EU laws, unless they can keep it separate, of course, they still 'merican at the end of the day.

probably because valve is a game developer and they wanted to do what every boomercattle does which is lump everyone together? especially with the SteamOS thing, also steam discussions, like it or not but that is a "social media" according to semantics faggotry.

So we're almost at two weeks since Ghost of Yotei released and there has been no official update on the sales figures. Speaking of which, Death Stranding 2 has been out for almost 4 months and there's still no official sales figures.

Chances are Yotei did worse than Assassin's Creed Shadows. And I assume people weren't sold on Kojima's drug-induced adventures of Norman "The Canon Cuck" Reedus.

They tanked.

Universally, when the sales figures are good, they are shouted from the rooftops. Always. They can't help themselves. That and it's part of the marketing effort (to further drive sales).

When they are not being shouted from the rooftops, when there's simply no talk about it at all (or it's being couched in terms like "user engagement count" or "units shipped"), the numbers are bad. When they deliberately dodge direct questions about the numbers, the numbers are abysmal and people are being constrained from revealing them at fucking gunpoint.

Always.

Shadows at least had giganigga to attract the fatherless Snoys to play it. There's basically zero positive engagement online for Yotei as the only positive posts I've seen are all "look at how this new game on current gen hardware looks more polished graphically than a 5 year old game that released on previous gen hardware."

To make it worse, the next exclusive is going to be Insomniac's Cucking of Wolverine and a man face Jean Grey. The budget for that game according to the Insomniac leak was ~$330 million, so that's going to hurt even harder for Sony.

I know the standard response is "oh well the money doesn't really matter" but is anybody keeping track of the "high scores" of all these companies pissing away collectively tens of billions of dollars on flop after flop trying to get their "messages" out?

How many fucking $350 million hits can these companies take to the balls before investors (or private owners) start shooting executives for setting so much money on fire?

I hate capeshit with a burning passion and hate referencing it under any circumstances, but seriously, this is reaching "Joker lighting a gigantic pile of cash on fire" levels of absurdity except he was actually (apparently?) better at getting a message across than these dope fiends are.

The thing is that this shit is all very recent with Concord and Spider-Man 2 hitting the ~$300-400 million budget ranges. Their "big budget" games prior to this were in the ~$200-220 million budget range like TLoU2 (2020), Horizon Forbidden West (2022), and God of War Ragnarok (2022). It wasn't that long before that that the budgets were in the $100 million range in the PS4 era.

When the budgets were lower, taking a loss on a game underperforming wasn't as big of a deal. They could reason away these exclusives as "loss leaders" to get people onto their platform so that when they finish Sony's 20 hour movie game, Sony now gets a 30% cut of all that juicy DLC money when they go back to playing their normiecore (CoD, Fortnite, FIFA, etc). Their cut from CoD was earning them $1.5 billion annually and the entire Gaming and Network Services segment was like 25 billion in 2020. Losing $20-70 million dollars on a game is worth it if it keeps the real money faucet running.

With these $350 million flops costing more than most Sony movies, it's harder to sell the "loss leader" cope to investors when the $350 million loss is across 1 game instead of 5. That's when the investors stop seeing that as an acceptable loss and more as another project that bombed.

I've been hearing as low as 1.2 million for Dyke San's game which is a fucking disaster for a first party Sony cinematic title.

At this point the superhero genre is so overstuffed with parodies, and subversions, and deconstructions that a traditional hero who is brave, and moral, and does traditional hero shit would be a breath of fresh air.

Sociopathic mass murderer Omni Man says trans rights!

I'm more in middle ground.
Not entirely subversive, but putting more mistakes on the traditional hero.
Like with Solid Snake in MGS1: if you surrender at Ocelot's torture, Meryl dies.
There's a long cutscene with Snake basically shattering into sadness for that. The "lone wolf legendary soldier" failing at defending someone.
At least Otacon put him into shape. What a bro.

The demo is on Steam, it is a managerial sim mixed with a Telltale styled visual novel. It claims to be a comedy ( whatever the Millennial team of writers thinks it is funny) Cynical hero deconstruction type story. I played like 15-20 minutes of the demo and uninstalled, bored me out of my mind. The typical "game" from this kind of crowd that doesn't understand how to make anything fun.
