I beat shadow of the Colossus on my fucking phone. PS2 version obviously. The HD version is as bad as Ico, they remove a fuck ton of the bloom and lighting effects the same as ico on PS3. My friend showed me his PS3 and I played the bundle a little. Fucking horrible ports beyond their higher resolution. They didn't bother fixing the problems that arise with higher resolution effects.

Bluepoint was a redundant studio who never made an original game beyond the alleged fantasy game that became demons souls demake.

I could never get into the Demon's Souls remake. Couldn't explain why, it just didn't resonate with me. Later I went and picked up a copy of the original for PS3 and was instantly smitten with its atmosphere. I love King's Field 4 and the atmosphere that game has, and it's also why I like DS2 so much. I was really surprised at how much of that essence was in Demon's Souls given my first impression of the game through the remake. The remake just has none of that at all.

I hate this idea that beautiful graphics make a game better. I'm so tired of seeing UE5 slop.

Fuck Bluepoint. I never even touched the Shadow of the Colossus remake because that game is too perfect, there is no way a remake could improve on anything.

The only really good modern engine remake I've seen is the Silent Hill 2 remake, which was so good I could barely believe it.

Silent Hill 2 remake was worse than demons souls and sotc made by even less talented hacks. I don't know what brain virus you have but it clearly gets a lot of the art wrong and the only reason some things look good is they brought back the original monster designer, who made changes to the monsters that were all compromises rather than pure artistic intent or merits. It was all for 4k just like UE5 slop.

One thing I can't criticize bluepoint demakes on is keeping their original gameplay and stories mostly intact even if they hire worse VAs and don't understand any of the design. The code is there.

It literally is UE5 slop and is less of a game than the original. Padded for 16 hours yet having far less depth or nuance of the original 5 hour PS2 game. And less impressive fog effects too. This piece of shit is less faithful to the original than the bluepoint remakes assuming you even played the original silent hill 2 instead of watching Vidya essays about it.

The soundtrack is also way worse just like the demons souls demake, and it's a fault of the composer downgrading his work for a more cinematic and clean style or going senile and losing his touch. Akira Yamaoka is a fucking hack for the series, there's a reason only him and Masahiro Ito stuck around Konami because they're just freelance artists on a collar there to keep fans in place.

The art part, ever question why the fucking otherworld segments are ripped straight from the 2006 film and have cinematic lighting, ever wonder why they don't use darkness as much as the original? It's because the art is polluted, they want to show you their high quality 4k models. The project was doomed as soon as they admitted this in a pre release interview, 'we understand fans are skeptical but when you see it in 4k you will see the vision' tier bullshit for why the game looks so different and doesn't use proper darkness or black color grades compared to the original.

It is the worst kind of fucking Hollywood tier remake and retards like you ate it up and now we're getting more fucking slop. Hope you enjoyed it man. I bet you hesitate to replay this bloated pile of shit. The original game is way more of a lingering artistic experience than this design committee project by a hack studio with a track record that would make CD Projekt blush.

It's 16 hours of a 5 hour story with worse acting, worse cinematography, worse story as a result of retarded exclusions, less faithfulness than the mgs3 demake and less UNLOCKABLE CONTENT than the original game with the absence of born from a wish, that dlc is never happening despite being teased in game. This is a completely different experience at this point. And what's crazy is they fully remade and modeled the hyper spray cans and sprinkled the assets around the apartments only to never use them.

Better, is they removed the star rank system and now the results are fucking soulless without this beautiful music:

Dev interview source:
Its people like you who keep these companies alive and thriving and honestly I don't care about it anymore. The idiots will vote with their wallets. I'll hope for copyright abolition so these companies fucking implode someday. Or just that game decompilation never stops.

Between the RAM shortages (thanks AI), the declaration that consoles will start to crank up prices (something tells me they wont reduce them if/when RAM prices stabilize) and Sony's announcing that they will basically have you "rent" a PS5, really begins to give credence to the "conspiracy theory" that the powers that be want to make sure getting gaming hardware will be very price-walled away but worry not, you can rent/remote play it straight from your home.

Leading into the classic "Owning nothing and being happy"

Maybe it's all a coincidence but honestly, I look it with the mentality "If it was true, what else the powers that be would be doing differently?"

Renting is more profitable than buying afterall...

As for Bluepoint

Should have stuck with remasters, to be honest, God knows these are better than remakes.

In one, you are merely porting it to modern hardware (at least if you are doing it right), in the other, you are actively invading a pre-established project that may not actually need it at all at best or will actively be inferior off at worst.

You were doing so good until this part....

Also did BP make the ps3 remaster of SOTC or the ps4 remake that came out a few years ago?

Because I remember the ps3 version being almost identical to the ps2 one visually but with way better framerates/resolution, the ps4 remake was the one that completely changed how the game looked. Pumped it full of saturation and made it way more lush and green and shit along with changing the controls.

Mafia 1 remake was good too
It literally ruined the ending and most of the narrative beats lmao.

Most of the game is also a tech demo and it also cuts out content or alters it to be film like. Which Sony fans adored. People will only play this piece of shit over the original because the original is unorthodox and clunky but those newcomers were never gonna touch MAFIA, only 2 and onward ever got more recognition on top of a severely troubled development. Wouldn't be shocked if Hanger 13 closes down if Old Country is anything to measure.

The original story was he moved out West to live a life and got shot one day, no family to be seen. A nice story about mob crime, and the usual ending to it all. The remake made it a pretentious pro Italian mob godfather faggot story where his wife holds him while he's dying. This out West detail was forgotten by the retards who continued MAFIA 2 without the original director. So they make Tommy appear in 2, in fucking New York, Vito and Joe kill him instead of random Mafia hitmen. And guess what? The remake has to asspull it and reform the story. I can't wait till Mafia 2 gets remade to include the nigger from 3 in there or his father somehow.

I feel like most people who are a fan of a franchises remakes never touched the originals that made them beloved.

A great remake is Kirby Superstar Ultra Deluxe. The greatest one probably, ever.

The main problem with these nu-remakes in general is that the remaking studio would have to be at least as competent as the one that worked on the original, and after more than a decade of diversity powered enshitification of employees that is a nearly impossible ask.
Also does not help that seemingly nobody manages to even localise, much less remake something with even a tiny bit of respect for the original work.
Most of the time it seems like these retards go out of their way to intentionally shit on the original vision because they cannot stop themselves from politisperging all over their work.

Not to mention that its imo. a clear sign that the game industry is in critical condition that anything new has become so shit that we are bombarded with re-releases of older stuff 24/7 (that also fail) in the first place.
This shit cant crash hard and fast enough.

Gravity Rush Remastered was pretty good though you could still tell it was originally a Vita game. I still had a fun time playing it.

Uncharted Collection wasn't that bad especially for someone like me who never owned a PS3 and was a pretty good bang for your buck.

I haven't played much of the Shadow of The Colossus game on PS4 yet. I think I beat the first boss. Did BP really fuck it up that bad? I originally bought the remake because my PC at the time could barely emulate PS2 games but is it worth switching over to the original or is it just a matter of personal preference?

Rip in piss Bluepoint. You died before you could fuck up BB even worse than DeS.
Mafia 1 remake was good too
Lmao what, it was abysmal dogshit. Half the characters talk like they're from the fucking Flintstones incessantly saying shit like rumpus and clams. It's comically bad. They managed to fuck up the most pivotal moments like Sam telling Tommy that friendship isn't worth shit and Tommy pondering about life, replacing it with some cringe dogshit about muh family to his demaked girlboss cunt of a wife.

SH2R and Mafia 1 demake are both the same kind of butchered slop aimed at reddit tourists. If we're being brutally honest the DeS demake mogs both of them as a remake of its respective game, and that's a disgrace and a half considering how shit the DeS demake is.

I actually haven't played Old Country, how did that turn out?

Of all the games and studios. You've got a studio that's been making remakes and ports of dubious quality for 20 years, and decide to have them make a fucking live service game? And then of all the franchises to make a live service game... God of War? The game where if you're not playing as Kratos its basically just wasting everyone's time? Could have just kept them chugging along doing sloppy remakes, at least those sell. Instead they only did what I can describe as setting them up for failure because of course having them make a live service God of War game would fail and result in being cancelled.

Like dog shit just like their work since 3. Pure dogshit. This series has been derailed since 2's development if you don't keep track of things you like. 2 is an incomplete game because the director from 1 left or got booted halfway in development so they changed the story and filled it in. Interesting development history nonetheless, Mafia 3 included.

It's just a miracle for them Mafia 2 is a pretty nice experience on its own, if you don't know what's supposed to be going on and plotlines that were supposed to be established...

Mafia 3 was fucking awful, I actually couldn't finish it.

It felt more like I was playing a black panther power fantasy than anything related to the fucking Mafia.

I still can't believe people actually like Bluepoints demakes. People are genuinely sad that they won't get a Bluepoint demake of Bloodborne now. Fucking bizarro world

People who like silent hill 2 demake enabled bluepoint to get to the point of shitty demakes. Remake culture is a cancer on gaming, and so are remasters honestly.

Remasters can be dogshit, look at Aspyr's work. Look at dark souls, look at QLOC handling of Yakuza 3.

In many cases remasters equally ruin, sometimes doubly ruin the impression of a game experience because of unaddressed 60fps bugs and issues with an updated engine the original never had.

DMC HD ports are probably the best example of this in the graphical department.

Graphics and effects do matter. If your sound is compressed and super fucked up compared to the original versions it's not a good remaster lol. If you have compromises and new scars just to run on new hardware you're a fucking disgraceful remaster. I'm no purist but I do like eating the original fucking burger and not something with extra shit in it just because it's new.

Beyond graphics there ends up being shit like Dead Rising 2016, not only is it a washed out remaster it has the worst case of weapons playing worse than the original experience. The sledgehammer clips through the floor now, making one of the most fun and powerful weapons useless because it opens you up to attacks compared to how it originally worked.
Another gameplay alteration, Yakuza 3 AI and blocking don't function how they originally did and the remaster led to the impression that the game fuckin sucked worse than it actually did from 2019-2025 and probably to this day even when they praise the remaster after the terrible demake.

You're honestly a gigantic faggot if you're on PC and still want remasters. Remasters have always just been compromises and cash grabs for the next generation of consoles not meaningful touchups to beloved works that fans or modders haven't already done and will do even better now with decompilation. Some copers love saying how an original game is outdated, well the whole concept of remasters are now outdated with shit like emulation and native PC ports becoming a thing. The remaster you want like night dive shit is an exception to their norm. Don't peel back the curtain on Night dive though they're a wholesome quirky company who totally make the best versions of games and made the best remake ever.
