The only reason to get a PS5 is when it's cracked and you get the games for free.
i just got it because i already had games for the ps4 and i didnt wanna move ecosystems for xbox where id have to buy games for it again. assuming such titles are even on it to begin with because just because sony is putting their games on pc doesnt mean it goes to xbox either necessarily
not like xbox has much in terms of good exclusives these days anyway
(also gta 6 is a day one buy for me)

The source code being lost doesn't mean anything,
Yes it does. It means "we have to rewrite the entire engine, remake all game assets, and reprogram all game logic in a brand new rewritten engine with all-new assets." Computers aren't magic. You don't get a PS5 game by putting a released, off-the-shelf PS4 disc in a PS5 dev kit and pressing [upgrade lol].

"No source code" means "we can't stick it in a newer dev kit, hit [go], fix errors until it runs, then release it."

I have a related question and am not certain where to ask it:

I keep seeing back and forth over whether Ghosts of Yotei underperformed or not. My memory is saying it did and Sony is obfuscating that by citing unusual numbers they wouldn't normally cite. Is my memory failing me?

Since Ghost of Yokei is a Sony exclusive, you're in the right place.

From what I found, its launch week was comparable to its predecessor, Ghost of Tsushima, which was well enough for the developer to notice. Three million copies as of November of 2025, take that what you will.

A sequel to one of the most genuinely popular 1st party games doing comparable numbers with the launch of the original, is a disaster.

I'm yet to hear anything overly negative about GoT, other than it's a little easy, so for GoY to sell so shite says everything.

Yes, I know, and what's your point? Square did exactly as you said with the example I gave.

The fact they're comparing GoY's launch, bundles, AND first holiday to Tsushima's launch alone, while trying to obfuscate what they're doing, really says it all. Look, I know a corporation is always going to present numbers in the best possible light to themselves, but if they're going to these lengths to be deceptive, that kinda gives away the game that the non-bullshit numbers aren't that good.

I’m in a similar boat. I got a ps5 for GT7, and plan to get GTA 6 when it comes out, outside of that I haven’t really used it and I probably should have just waited it out.

Are you being deliberately obtuse, or is your confusion genuine?

1) Square isn't Sony. 2) Sony lacks the competence to cleanroom-reimplement Bloodborne. 3) Sony lacks the will to convince Fromsoft to do it for them. 4) They've had literal years and endless clamoring to get it done, and haven't done so. Ergo they're unlikely to do so.

Ghost of Yotei has made more money. Even if it sold the same as GoT the price of GoY is higher and both were made under the same budget. Pretty sure they recouped the cost of development in 3 days and have been making pure profit since. Plus Sony owns the store so no platform fees.

If you have a spare hour this video does a good job going over a lot of the differences and why Bluepoint are talentless hacks. For the most part the gameplay hasn't changed, but visually the game is a fucking disaster and all of the intentional artistry of the original was forcefully thrown away for generic shit that the Bluepoint devs thought would look cool.

Now that's a blast from the past. It seems every time I revisit this controversy, I find more and more wrong with the game. These western retards are nothing but hollow bugmen, they claimed they "improved" upon the original when they didn't even understand it, they really should have just been hired to do some commission work for Diablo 4 since half the new assets look like they're from that game anyways.

RIP in piss Bluepoint, you won't be missed.

Sony Japan definitely didn't do it any favors, but Sony California actively did their best to sabotage it, this was right as a pretty big shakeup was happening at playstation, with the californian branch taking more and more control after being credited with "saving" the ps3 in its twilight years (granted, they at least kicked some momentum back into it prior to the launch, after microsoft stalled the 360 with the kinect during the second half of that device's life). Because of this, the ps4 ended up being largely controlled by california playstation, while the vita ended up under actual playstation Japan. Look, the ps4 would have probably sold more no matter what, but cali playstation knew that the worse the vita did, the more power they would get in the aftermath.
This. It was killed as part of Hulst and Druckmann's takeover
That's why there was never even a port of Uncharted: Golden Abyss, despite it being one of Sony's biggest franchises and Bend begging to be allowed to port it
They had to make sure Druckmann could pretend it was his franchise
You'll get 20 more ports, remakes and remasters of Horizon and the Last of Us but they'll never put a penny towards anything that might challenge their crown

GoY didn't make any money from its bundles though, and I'm VERY skeptical of any budget sony reports, they're the reigning champions of playing shell games with money and budgets, claiming significant portions of a budget for whatever they're presenting are actually costs for separate divisions. GoY also had a significantly more expensive marketing budget than Tsushima had, which is almost never reported in budgets, across any entertainment industry.
