I was hoping for a cheap PS5 to jailbreak by now so I could play some 'emulated' PSVR2 games. Ah well.
Soynyfags on their shill site believe the PS5 will sell 100 million units by the end of the gen. They dodge the question if its shipped or sold (it's shipped)
"it made entertainment personal, mobile, and always within reach. It was the beginning of life on the go."
How the hell did she forget that the iPod existed?
Tin foil hat time: The next generation consoles are going to be expensive on purpose so that these companies can introduce the next evolutionary step that started with the transition of physical to digital. Now it will be local compute vs cloud compute: You can opt to buy the $1200 local compute box that has all the necessary hardware to run the game in-situ or a much cheaper $400 streaming box with the included monthly online fee that will let you play all your games with "The Power Of The A.I.Cloud DLLS 6 Uncanny Valley of Hallucinations" (TM).
Since you no longer own the games, why even own the hardware to run them, the corporation will control every aspect of the experience and the costumer will pay for the privilege to access their endless slop (and cut you off entirely at their discretion).

This is unfortunately probably the case. I didn't even think about it like that. But I saw some retailer offering a pay-by-month rent-a-gaming-laptop. And the RAM price increases and whatnot is so clearly a step toward the rent-your-hardware dystopia. Even fucking Windows 12 might be a subscription service. They want everything to be a subscription service. You will own nothing and be happy. No point to even playing modern games (except indie ones) at this point.

The digital ID pushes and dynamic pricing shit that Sony has rolled out also will be used to discriminate against White people again, as in White and Asian people will never see any discounts for games, while "oppressed" people like Blacks, Trannies, Indians, Muslims, etc. will see discounts more frequently, in a subsidized matter. I don't see them being the type to buy Concordverse and Dustbornverse games though, even if they're on sale for 90% off.

So we can re-run the same fucking cycle over and over again. People aren't standing up in unison to say the things that should be said, so blind sheep are persuaded into buying that shit. Do you really think fanboys wouldn't shill for this shit? Be honest. Again with all that money being processed, you could inevitably just buy an entire PC - prebuilt from the ground up. Or even buy and entire consoles library if you chose to from the 6th or 5th generation.

This sounds crazy except for the fact Steam used to have regional pricing for games and price them dirt-cheap for third-worlders. People took advantage of that too much though and they stopped doing it. But ID verification will ensure you actually are a third-worlder.
Yes, and? I’m sorry you exclusively play AAA slop that takes up a quarter of your hard drive per game, but in the world of mostly non-bloated file sizes, games typically average a few gigs each. Maybe 10-15 GB for some major releases.
Even Penny Arcade's mocking of that wasn't as ridiculous, considering it was pretty stupid to make a multiplayer-focused game that insisted everyone who wants to play must own a GBA, and someone's got to buy a Gamecube <-> GBA link cable for each player, which cost $10 each. Which didn't charge off of the Gamecube, and it blocked the charging port, just to be funny. And lol if you didn't upgrade to an SP and still had a GBA without a backlight.
So that's one way to ensure your only players will be rich kids with divorced parents, and nerds at gaming conventions in the far future.

It’s like the old E3 meme…
… except Sony and (still) Microsoft are the ones killing themselves while Nintendo at least attempts to compete before Gaben knocks them off by simply showing up.
Aren't RAM prices set to drop back down now? This seems like comically bad timing.
And Steam has still held off on finalising a price for the Steam Machine, if component prices revert back to close to the mean they have the opportunity to do the funniest fucking thing in the next few weeks.
RAM is up as it is artificially being less produced given that everyone is seeing the A.I. takeover as nothing more than a bubble waiting to burst, and producers don’t want to be saddled with worthless overstock once it pops. I suspect we got a year left of the A.I. insanity before measures start getting taken to scale it back. I believe some are already pivoting and there is a lawsuit for Open A.I. in play, which may begin to turn things around.
In general the PS2 is still one of my all time favorite console because it is a treasure trove of horror titles, there were just so many high quality titles that it makes the console and that era the golden age for the genre.
RPGs as well! It's probably not just the greatest soyny console but, at least in terms of library, greatest ever. Thanks to full backwards compatibility with another great console with a huge library. Almost criminal that soyny dropped the concept in future consoles. But that is part of the curse of sony. They can't go a full~5 years without going full retard in some way. From the attempted RPG restricting in the west during early PS1 (over the western prez's personal taste and desire to create a "cool" action image for the brand early on before thankfully getting the boot), to the western 2D PS2 game ban, the PS3 bullshit,, original cross play intransigence, 'service' games, modern censorship plus other anti-consumer shit and so much more. A lot of the problems arise with their uncanny ability to pick the most contemptible fucking dimwits and trend chasers to run the show over and over again. To outright villainous assholes.
Considering Microsoft's Project Helix price is already being rumored to be no less than $1000 on the low end it is not too far fetched than the PS6 will easily be within that same price range. The rumor of the price hike for the PS5 Pro places it at 900 Euros so you can already imagine how much more costly a successor console will cost.
Holy shit, that (these) better come unlocked and un-gatekept for that kind of price. Dropping $300-$400 on something that tells me what i'm allowed to play etc is one thing, but fuck that noise at those prices. Especially since they are all basically mainstream semi-custom but mostly generic hardware now. Also the PS7 better not come out for 12-15 years. Esp with current dev cycle bullshit.
A suggestion.. maybe don't release a new fucking console for a (long) while and focus your money and efforts on making actual games and squeezing the most out of what you have!
Count me out of the next console gen. Fuck that. I already gave up soyny after the censorship shit years back. This doesn't make me even think about reconsidering. Not that i would anyway. Most of their modern game series don't interest me at all. The shift to the western focus was the beginning of the end.
a little melodramatic i suppose, but there's just kind of a harder "sad" feeling of living through the n64, dreamcast, ps, ps2, and then even by the 3 cracks started forming, shit didn't have to run stable, less rapidfire games, shittier ip sequels, to the ps4 era being apparently the unknown last hurrah/final enshittening, and now the console industry is basically a dead tree they're rushing to sell the timber of before the rot sets in, and nintendo suing someone else and somehow fucking up every pokemon release besides a minecraft rip off made by fucking dynasty warriors people, trying very fucking hard to do so/killing metroid and others of it's evergreen ips, while having the worst tech and the highest prices.
like fuck, man, opening up a fresh game case of legend of dragoon or some shit, or seeing ffx's/ratchet and clank's demo for the first time from ps1 to 2, and now it's just at best 90% soulless trend chasing with battle royale rip off passes, and there's no return possible. even indie, there's like 2 hundred or some shit objective garbage releases for a mewgenics or similar. like fuck bro, how did people fuck shit up so hard, like every single fucking money printer ip has been/is just handed to jeets or objectively incompetent people. fuck boomers and elvis tears, it's like the entire entertainment industry is now just pozzed, will remain pozzed, and at best, for every 50 jeets/troons, you'll get a sperg with a passion project until they get bought out, and we will have old good shit until eventually old shit is just no longer easily supported or you're outright sued for trying to make it so.
it's like a simulated depression for the consumer, where everything supposed to be fun just looks worse, because it actually fucking is, and probably even actively hates you
Man, both hit me right in the feels/mems and slightly depressed me at the same time..
All of this! Same with PS1 era for me too. remember the FFX demo.. exhilarating times when the sky seemed to be the limit going forward. No retards, politatards or outside agenda shit. The only fighting was in the trenches of the console wars and against censorship/asshole normies.
I have fond memories of starting up FFVIII for some reason too. (IX as well) They became one of those things that i remember as a feeling more than a memory. Xenogears, Grandia and the Lunars are well. So many memes. Or Chrono Trigger back in the earlier days.
Nintendo is the lesser of the three evils, yes, but they're still fucking evil. There, I've stopped the autistic slap fighting, now can we go back to laughing at Sony?
Agreed, but it's closer than it was a few years ago and a lot closer than it should be. Remember that after NEA got a new prez a year or so ago, he started off by hiring DEI "specialists" and instantly initiated a western censorship policy almost exactly like soyny did years ago. Not just on 1st party games but 2nd and 3rd party titles. Games have already been censored and even banned/blocked in the west. Some of the censorship demands go beyond what even soyny still demands. To be specific, There are games on Switch and 2 with censored content, freely allowed on soyny versions. No, of course it isn't as severe because it isn't happening globally like with soyny demands.. for now.. But N of japan is letting this happen after all the good will and support of niche devs and fans who were fucked over by soyny. It seems like no company is immune to regular full retard moments.
You see, building things to last costs money and isn't a consistent stream of revenue (because you used to only need to buy a controller once or twice).
That's the optimistic take actually. A more realistic version is "building things to last costs near-term future sales". Because we have long since passed the point that the "public" business/trade parasite world freely and openly started designing things to fail quickly at a fundamental design level. And conditioned normies masses, view propaganda and shills to come running to the defense of what used to be an actionable civil or even regulatory matter. "butt it's their jobs to make money, not products or services!! REEEE"

Suddenly big retards and tech heads, including the ghoul who owns Amazon, started talking about how owning computer hardware was antiquated and predicting that it will soon be a thing of the past. Replaced by streaming cloud "services". And with them no doubt dumbed down smart phone like UI's and control, potentially walled/gated ecosystems and without a doubt things like scanning everything you save to "your" virtual computer, deleting things they don't like, modding is in real danger thanks to the theoretical gray area i holds with our fucked up modern CR system. Also say goodby to anything a big US corporation doesn't feel comfortable with. (nudity, adult stuff, probably even sexy/ecchi stuff given the right pressure) What happens with the next violence moral panic and they start demanding gatekeeping of games and content ability like online stores. To say nothing of wrong think.. And that's just for a start. Wait till activists, gov idiots, media talking heads and other ghouls realize that these services are "platforming" wrong thinkers. Remembering what happen to this very site's forum software license. Hell, they could technically even start policing what you passively view online, what sites your allowed to load on their systems. It's is unhyperbolically a first order pandora's box scenario. Not just for gaming.
Microsoft already let the cat out of the bag by saying the nextbox would be $1000 to $1500. They knew what was coming.
There's no way Sony wouldn't set their prices on a similar level, even if they didn't have to.
