Do you have a hacked PS5? Obviously, there are people who will drill holes into their motherboard to get free games, but even the softmodding available on some Switch units is too much of a barrier for most people to bother with. On PC, everyone knows you can google pirate bay to get free games.

Capcom's Resident Evil 9 is currently on sale for $56 on Steam but $70 on PSN and EGS. I don't think Capcom feels pressured by the existence of alternate storefronts. Then again, Playstation didn't tell Capcom that they had to sell RE9 for $70, that's something Capcom decided themselves because it's the market norm. Competition also doesn't depend on platform, it depends on the market, that's why RE9 is $70 but Pragmata is only $60, because Capcom expects Pragmata to be less competitive than RE9. I guess the reason for the sale is just that Capcom really appreciates Steam gamers.

It's even cheaper to buy a Steam game key.

So RE9 is discounted because Capcom is trying to compete with Steam keys? I'm pretty sure Capcom is the one who gives those keys to the key stores.
Also I heavily disagree about disc cost. Even today CD printing isnt that expensive. Remember the sheer floodgates of PS1 and PC games in the nineties? Thats because in bulk at max a CD cost 50 cents.
You're correct that discs, boxes, shipping, and storage costs are tiny for mass produced games, the actual reason why games companies make more from digital is that retailers take a cut of the sale (or, more accurately, publishers sell them to retailers well below MSRP, probably half MSRP, and then retailers sell them to the customer).
Oh absolutely, but they were the ones to introduce it and set the trend. You can argue that it would happen anyway being that blueray was a clusterfuck on PC, and nowadays there isn't even a format that would fit the bill anyway. But let's not forget who introduced it first and got away with it. Valve and Steam is the first who set "you will own nothing and you'll be happy", in exchange for Gaben memes and "sales"
Like, I said, they get away with it because they compete with piracy. This isn't just about pricing, if Valve bans an account, or otherwise removes access to a game, the game can pirated, and therefore the consumer only loses out on the ability to resell their games. The lack of a secondary market is made up for to some degree by lower prices.

One more thing is that the whole disc business has simply stagnated. We went from 700MB -> 8.5GB -> 50GB and that was in 2008ish? And the read speeds for Blu-rays are atrocious by today's standards (I think the highest blu-ray movie bitrate is about 130Mb so around 10MB/s). So even if the will was there, as far as I know modern AAA slop is double or close to triple that. If the optical disc format were to remain viable we'd need another format yesterday

The PS5 has around 25, including the VR content.
Which also includes
The demons souls remake
Destruction allstars which shouldn't count since it's dead now
God of war trilogy remake
Demetrios remake
A dead or alive game that doesn't even have a name yet
Wolverine that isn't out
Intergalactic that isn't out
God of war Laufey that isn't out
Until Dawn 2 that isn't out
Quantum Error that is losing exclusivity
Neptunia reverse which is just a port of a previous game
Daba land of water scar isn't out yet
The winds rising isn't out yet
Paperbeast was just an updated version of a ps4 game

Which cuts that down to 11 games when the system came out in 2020.
4k BD can go up to 100gb
Doesn't matter when
A: The game is 150GB or more
B: The game requires a 50GB day 1 patch to be playable because the version sent to get printed on disc 2 months before release wasn't actually playable without the giant patch.

This crap has been a problem for 3 generations now.

I still remember that shitty Pro Skater 5 game that had a day 1 patch that was half the game file size of the full game. It’s ridiculous.

Been a little while since I looked at this:
25 listed. 7 of them just straight up aren't exclusive. 9 are unreleased, many of which don't even have a release year, let alone release date. Of the remaining 9, 2 are free downloads lasting 45 minutes and 2 hours, with virtually no replayability. Destruction allstars is a delisted live service that the servers shut down over a year ago and no one even realized until it was officially delisted. 2 of the remaining 6 are beyond irredeemable shovelware that only exist as exclusives because of how notoriously terrible and difficult the psn's refund policy is to navigate.
Of the remaining 4, you have:
Sons of Sparta, a $30 spinoff that plays and looks worse than hundreds of free flash games from 2 decades ago
Saros, a gay jeet cuck simulator
Ghost of Yotei, literal GoYslop, mediocre and unremarkable in every way, and a major step down from its surprisingly decent predecessor
Astrobot, the literal definition of "6.5/10, it's fine"

PS5 will be entering its SEVENTH year on the market in mere months, and the only thing it's adding in that time is wolverine, the sloppiest of capeslop, complete with Debra Wilson and manjaw Jean Grey.

Exactly, claiming the PS5 has "25 exclusives" is just a fucking joke. I'm not going to say that something on PC means it isn't an exclusive, since the console war brainlets only think in terms of Sony/Nintendo/Microsoft so if it's not on switch or xbox it may as well be, plus Sony's PC ports usually show up 1-3 years late and buggy anyway.

When you don't even have 2 exclusives a year, but own a shitload of game studios... you've got to wonder wtf is going on. But Microsoft isn't any better in this regard either.

It's not really relevant what tribal manchild nerds think. An "exclusive" is significant because I need to buy in to the walled garden if I want to play that game, which has all sorts of potential positive effects for the company that owns that walled garden. Exclusives tempt me to pay Sony money and, after that, make it easier to justify paying Sony more money in the future.

If I can just get it for the PC I already own, none of that is the case.

A shittier buggier version 1-3 years later? Sure. Doesn't change the fact that the system has been out for most of a decade at this point and doesn't have a double digit number of exclusives no matter which way anyone tries to count it.

Reminds me of this video I watched last year where a guy mentions Demon's Souls "a true PS5 exclusive" as the reason to get PS5 Pro. As Mister Asmongold said, "goycattle-worse than goy, even dumber, even more servile.
