Although i personally enjoyed Horizon 1. I never understood their insisting on making Horizon the big titan of a franchise when in reality it should have been a neat one off game. For some reason they want to plaster the Horizon ip on everything.
Look up which studio made Horizon, and then look up the background of the guy running Sony's gaming shit Hermen Hulst. It'll make a hell of a lot of sense.

It's a neat idea for a setting, post-post-apocalypse filled with dinobots, and Sony has obviously been wanting to get some of the success Monster Hunter has had. The two big problems are that 1) they'll never let go of the niggerfaggotry, and 2) MonHun gets a new game every other year, not twice a decade at best.

I'm fairly certain that if I asked like a hundred people to name a female character they strongly associate with the Playstation brand there would be lots of 2Bs, Jill Valentines, and Kats. Basically no one would say Aloy.

Whatever happened to that slant knockoff Horizon: Without 'Cado™ game? I don't want to play it but I want to see someone eat both Horizon and MH's lunch.

Lara Croft is also heavily associated with the PlayStation for a lot of people

Light of Motrin or whatever? That got cancelled after Sony sued Tencent for copyright infringement. Which if a chink company backed down from that, it must have been pretty blatant.

I don't think there's any saving or fixing sony at this point.
The only solution is to let them crash and burn then maybe 10-20 years later start over fresh, assuming someone else doesn't take their place.

I really enjoyed the dynamic enemy designs and how you could knock shit off their bodies to disable certain attacks, and I hoped the sequel would expand on that while tweaking the parts of the game I found annoying like the severely restrictive loadout.

Instead Forbidden West made literally everything worse and doubled the runtime because saying you have 100 hours of content is more important than any of that content being fun.

As for why it's being pushed as the next big thing, the answer is simple: Hermen Hulst.

Fuck (a) dude, I hate 80% of what PlayStation is and has always been, but fuck it, give me the reigns and I’ll fix it.
And then you quickly find that every single layer of the company is staffed by people vehemently opposed to fixing things, whether it's because they don't want to admit the "chuds" were right, or because live service has to work eventually and that's the best way to make line go up if it's successful, or it's just people way too personally invested in a particular project, whatever their reason, they'll all be united in trying to make any changes you want to implement a living nightmare to actually go through. Soon, you're a couple years in, you've shut down a couple clear mistakes, but everything you've tried to implement has been stopped by more red tape than a red glitter explosion in the scotch factory, so the drought we're seeing right now has only gotten worse, and the shareholders are calling for your head. Everything that took you a few years to do is undone in a single week by your replacement. And things continue to get worse.

I don't understand why they tried to make melee a thing. Aloy is a stealthy ranged character, if you need to stab something it was because you were striking from stealth or you fucked up and were just trying to survive. "Hey, you should try the melee pits." um, fuck no.

Shift Up (Stellar Blade Devs) hires a Playstation executive to focused on DEI & ESG. This person will be the head of Global Communications. Its just baffling, it's like these companies can't help but sabotage themselves. Shift Up is done.

And when people pressed Jerome about it on X he started acting nasty and calling everyone “child” like Fatrick does.

Your professional communications manager sir!

It’s so over

Horizon should've been a one off game, Ghosts of Tsushima should've been a one off game. Hell, Spider-Man probably should've been a one off game.

This is made even funnier by the fact that Sony desperately wants her to be the face of PlayStation like Kratos, Nathan Drake and Ratchet were

I still will never understand the need for Sony or Microsoft to want to franchise everything. Not everything is going to be Gears of War, Halo, Tomb Raider... Just let it be a stand alone experience and learn from it to create another game.

Franchises are viewed as infinite money printers. They think if they can get an intellectual property to "stick" long enough for two games related to it to achieve a modicum of success, they can just generate formulaic, derivative slop with Intellectual Property 3913™ Brand® elements inserted indefinitely and people will just vacuum it up as fast as they can churn it out.

Star Trek, Star Wars, Pokémon, Gears of War, Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Final Fantasy and stuff like that are all very successful franchises; even though they have controversial or unsuccessful individual entries in their respective series, overall those franchises have been very profitable to their owners. Of course, these examples are also showing their age and revealing the inevitable downside of a franchise -- eventually they become either over-saturated or out of touch with their audience, and people get tired of them and move on to something else naturally.

Star Trek and Star Wars have both had such dreadful entries in recent years they're effectively going on hiatus (Star Trek is all but officially mothballed for now, while Star Wars is still gurgling a bit but is also petering out). The recent Trek series were so out-of-touch with their audiences there's literal fan works that have more views than the official shows, and people are fucking sick to death of Star Wars shitting out the same cliched garbage every year too.

Pokémon, GoW, RE, SH and FF are all immensely popular video game franchises, but the latest Pokémon game has the lowest sales figures of any mainline game in the franchise, and the other franchises are all undergoing seemingly endless "remaster/reimagining" cycles instead of innovating new stuff.

The suits never see this part. They just assume any given entry in a franchise failing is the result of incompetence by the production team (which isn't always wrong, but also doesn't completely answer the question of why it bombed, and they never look too closely).

Besides, inventing new intellectual properties is hard work, requires genuine talent and creativity, and there's no guarantee even a genuinely good/compelling idea will translate well to the target medium and actually be a success (the public is a fickle beast). Much easier to shit a "new" idea out every ten years and shovel it into as many generic games as possible in the hopes of scoring a rare winner.
