Sopranos is still the best TV show ever: Appreciation Thread - or maybe the wire

But I roll my eyes at some of the cringe worthy scenes like comparing the drug game to a chess game.
Unequivocally the worst scene in the series. It’s like a litmus test for whether someone has any taste at all.

I disagree that that bullshit is at all common though.

Even on The Shield the criminals are almost never in the interrogation room with an actual lawyer
I love The Shield but it’s a bad example for that; it’s like a comic book. Of course they don’t have lawyers that would get in the way of Vic slamming their head into a desk.

Even on The Shield the criminals are almost never in the interrogation room with an actual lawyer. They just get mentally broken by Dutch or intimidated by Vic in almost all episodes. It's very repetitive and unrealistic.
i mean ive seen plenty of police interviews where that exactly happens never underestimate how stupid people are

Couldn't find this mentioned anywhere on the forum, I'm not sure it's even that interesting, but Chazz Palminteri has a podcast called "The Chazz Palminteri Show" and has made episodes with numerous mob genre actors including Vince Pastore and Steve Schirripa:

His most recent episode is talking about what makes a good chiropractor, so the joke is already made on that one. It's nice to see a good actor still busy and enjoying himself this old.

Was Chazz ever approached about acting in The Sopranos? Surely he was.

Rewatching The Wire (no dedicated Wire thread as far as I know,) blink and you'll miss it; you'll notice that Michael had a PS2 Slim and Xbox 360 for his new apartment after slinging for Marlo.
haha there is a dedicated "the wire" thread and now you look like a moron

Thanks, will delete it now.

As much as a bitch Livia was, Nancy Marchand played that part well.

remember when is the most underrated sopranos episode it's almost as funny as pine barrens

Early Tone: "Remember the good times."

Late Tone: "'Remember when' is the lowest form of conversation."
He learned that the life before his time was overrated by then and dudnt wanna hear any stories from Paulie anymore. Fran also made him finally kill off any love he may have had still for his dad too, but I think he always hated him. Much in the way of Christopher just wanting a legitimate father figure and not a mafia coach.

One of the most disturbing moments for Tony is when Christopher says that his own father was nothing more than a junkie. And not some hero from the greatest generation. Makes him reevaluate his own father on the spot and instantly realize his father was probably even worse. You can see that Tony also knows that Christopher no longer romanticizes the mob. And he figures that Christopher is no longer trustworthy.

It's interesting listening to him in the first episode talking about how he feels like he was born in the wrong era. The heyday for the mafia was the 50s to the 70s, now things are slipping away under his watch. But slowly but surely, he starts to learn how much Hollywood, the old guys, and nostalgia have lied to him. In a different show, it might have led to him trying to redeem himself once he learned he was admiring a false narrative. Instead, here he just dove into the life even further.

It's part of what I liked about this show. It didn't shy away from what these people were.

Was it overrated? The show coincided with the death of traditional organized crime, due to cellphones, patriot act and corporations making it infeasible.

I do wonder how well Tony lived as a child compared to his life as an adult. It looks like his dad cared more about raising his bastards than heirs.

Based on what Tony said about his dad, his flashbacks, and the movie, I'd say Johnny Boy wasn't a good father at all. And considering that he was in prison at least once, and Livia being like she was. he had nothing like an emotional support system beyond Junior and Dickie which isn't all that much either.

I'd say Johnny Boy wasn't a good father at all.
Tony mentioned at least once that belt beatings were a common thing and Johnny made Tony lie to Livia about where they were when she had her miscarriage. He was definitely a bad father and Tony's descent into nihilism happened in part due to realizing all the things he believed in and looked up were either completely over and dead or farcical to begin with - his image of father as a model man easily slotting into both.

Anyways, there's something much more important to talk about. Why are their so many instances of jews fucking niggers in this show? Specifically Jewish men and Black women:

- Noah Tenenbaum's dad is Jewish, his mom is black
- Hesh's girlfriend is a black woman
- The orthodox Jewish motel owner gets his dick sucked by a black hooker. She "makes that beanie spin"

It's such a specific combination too that its hard to not notice. The only BMWF combination is Noah and Meadow, but even then, he's half jew, and Tony's disapproval is vindicated by the end.

What did they mean by this? Were the writers symbolically saying that jews were fucking over blacks? It is supported by the Mad Genius episode.
