I saw this used on SA, and I think it's be great for here. That way, when people wanna look up specific things from threads like @BOLDYSPICY!'s cartoons in the Connor thread or @Roger Rabbit doxxing himself in the KKK furry's thread, it'll be a lot easier to do so.

I don't know how much of a pain in the ass this'd be, but unless I'm mistaken, it's not that hard to detect username tags. So unless it'd be a real hassle, there's really no reason not to have this feature.

have you tried the search function?

Where was the post where Roger Rabbit got doxxed?

Let's not go looking to SA for tips on how to improve the site. That's like going to EDF to figure out how to defuse drama.

This is actually somewhat limited, especially in the longer threads. Which is why I think an SA-esque member thread search would improve things.
it works fine, I don't see the problem

Guys we've got it wrong, when he says "sort by member" he means these members

What I mean is that it doesn't go deep enough for the long threads. It's fine for around the most recent few dozen pages, but we have threads stretching back several hundred.

The coding and infrastructure and policy and really most every action of the last decade on SA absolutely fucking blows, but a good idea's a good idea.

SA runs on entirely different forum software, dont assume that everything you see on forums can be used on here

I don't. I just assumed it might be possible because if there archaic, shitty software can support that feature, I figured it might not be that difficult to implement.

Link to some of your SA posts?

I think every person with programming knowledge just internally screamed in agony at that assumption.

I came here to try to suggest sorting threads by number and types of ratings per post. Threads are too huge and mostly non-essential reading.
Sorting threads by total +/- member rating may be helpful in practice as well.

Search within thread for posts with specific rating (informative) could be an easier solution.

Our dead friend * from up high, may he rest in peace does kind of have a point buried deep in there. Personally when I am searching for cocks on the forum the main gripes I have are that
  • the number of results shown per page is low and that's annoying.
  • the results are exclusively shown from newest to oldest. Usually when I am using the search feature on this site that means that I am looking for posts that are very old, so I would like it if there were a way to sort them from oldest to newest. At least, having an "older than" sorting calendar would be much more helpful to me than the "newer than" one we have right now which is totally useless.
  • I can't search for a lot of terms because the searchbox deems them too common, even if I bundle them together with less common words using quotations. So for example if I searched for "sorry Marjian" as one term the engine would only search for "Marjian" on its own, which is a lot less specific.
  • less of a gripe and more of a suggestion, but I would like it if entering the name of a member and clicking "search titles only" would only show the threads they've made in that section.
I realize that the weaknesses are built into Xenforo and no one here could probably do anything about them, but if there's one thing I've ever been good at it's complaining uselessly and expecting the people above me to solve impossible problems for my benefit.

This idea has been proposed before, and if it was feasible to code something like that the concept fell through completely and was dismissed for being too much effort. Kind of unfortunate, but now that months have passed and our administration has changed it could be worth a second try. Not that I'd bet the farm on it.
