Thought it deserved its own thread as the media has spun into overdrive denial mode. Jannies can merge if it is duplicate. Is this the first mass organized labor action in the US taken because of vaccine mandates? Southwest and SW union say poor management and weather (weather seems doubtful)

Possibly. The airline industry is fucked up either way. It will be interesting to see what companies survive the Wuhan curse.

doesn't work like that. pilots have to be trained for every different kind of aircraft they might want to fly, it's not like driving a bus where they're pretty much all the same
The Australian example was using air force aircraft to ferry passengers around, but doing something like that, even in Australia, doesn't make sense in 2021. This is just a singular airline after all, rather than industrial action across the entire American sector.

Yes and no. That happened one specific weekend but apparently flight cancelations are up 3x-4x times more than a standard year I 2021.

Make of that what you will.
for SW airlines or in general?

The official explanation is that there's a labor shortage because of various packages and incentives SWA gave that resulted in retirements and temporary lay offs for a lot of veteran employees (this was to deal with the huge revenue hit in 2020). But if the trend is increasing in recent months, it might be because people are burning up their vacation time before they're fired/quit on December 8. I know I would if worked for SWA and didn't want the bullshit vaxx.
