You speak as if IRC wasn't the primary source of 4chan janitorial feedback for 2 decades. I think it's much better than hosting an open discord server and critics of the Sharty had futility tried to convince them to do IRC since at least the Doll days. Interesting development though, it took Root quitting for IRC to happen. He'd been in vocally anti-IRC and in support of their private mod Discord, just as Froot was.
