I'll admit, the early art for Troon Crusade was pretty cool in a gnarly, fucked-up, Cannibal Corpse Album Cover way.

The early art was really great, it's the reason it had so many eyes on it and was pretty successful. As someone mentioned earlier, the style was very reminiscent of some of Keith Thompson's work, which you can check out here.

did they get rid of the caste system with the brainwashing pheromones after adding it in when they had no downsides?
I think it's all still there? Last thing I remember with their lore was that they were setting up forced sterilization for some of the human worlds they had conquered or something like that? Honestly, with how often GW changes lore I think it's kind of pointless to keep up with it, better to just go with whatever you think is funniest. Luckily Space King seems to be steering clear of all that bullshit so far.

Iirc they are wishy washy on it and things like slowly sterilizing non-Tau and slowly replacing them when they annex them. I think it got confirmed and Tau fans (Redditors, trannies, tankies) got pissy about something that was supposed to exist since Firewarrior. They keep going back on it from the few friends I have that play tabletop. I am mostly a secondary.

I like the Tau as effectively the people who learned the wrong lesson from the Imperium and Eldar and are speed running getting eaten by a Chaos God. The Farsight shit is basically Craftworld Eldar. Tau fans however are far more media literate and will bitch when they aren’t a boring good guy faction in a setting where the whole point is that every faction is in decline or stagnating (the whole fucking point of Isha being captured by the manifest of decay, Nurgle).

I kinda forget that they portrayed the Tau as aliens with vagina mouths to start the series.

I forget if Tom and Don hate the Tau for being lame. Anything cool or grim dark about their faction gets retconned and they have boring weapons. Just in general the worst Xenos race.
Plus the Tau are space Communists so of course they're lame and gay.

I didn't expect these fellows to branch out with a video game already.

The caste system still exists, even for the Farsight Enclaves. That hasn't changed at all. In fact Farsight, which is the much more liberal sub-faction, still gives each caste their own home planet. Farsight just allows them to cooperate more closely instead of shooting a fire warrior for repairing his rifle. You can't get rid of the caste system without completely deleting all T'au and T'au adjacent lore because it is so essential.

The pheromones thing was nothing more than wild speculation, and is not strictly canon. GW has never given a canonical explanation for how the Etherals have so much control over the rest of T'au society. All we know is it's not fool-proof because Farsight was able to tell Aun'Va, the Ethereal Supreme, to go fuck himself to his face without any kind of help or protection.

You probably got a Cliff's notes version already, but I can shine some light on this
Damn I really love it when I find out about a cool new thing like Trench Crusade and then literally days later I learn it also sucks lmao

Anyway just watched all the current Space King episodes, good stuff. I thought Episode 2 is the best so far

I don't follow "modern audience" Nu Warhammer much, but wasn't there an event when an Etherial got messed up by a Culexus?

GW treats the Ethereals as Blood Ravens. Maybe they are latent psykers, maybe pheromones, maybe just brainwashing propaganda.
Like how the Blood Ravens are maybe from Thousand Sons, maybe Word Bearers, maybe nothing there.

Pheromones would have made sense for their background lore, but once they are space faring, I can imagine that the Earth Caste would analyze their ship air to make sure it works, plus there isn't always an Etherial around to always fart in the face of every other tau. So my retard take would be it may have been pheromones or psychic first, but I'm pretty sure it is 90% just straight up cult-strength MK'Tau'Ultra levels of propaganda.

It was Aun'Va who was killed by a Culexus assassin. I only have the wikis to go off of because I think the event was described in some campaign book, not an actual novel. Culexus assassins are pretty much anathema to everything so even if Etherals weren't psykers it would still fuck with them.

It could honestly be a mix of everything and you just pick your favorite. It has to be some amount of indoctrination, because if it were pheromones like Tyranids, they wouldn't need propaganda and lie to the citizens. It can't be entirely indoctrination because there is no way you could get that level of obedience without being a Space Marine. Even half of the Space Marines turned to chaos.

Reading the books you get a better sense that the average person is just trying to keep their head down. There is an obvious amount of respect for the Ethereals, but sometimes they will follow orders because they know they are dead either way if they try to refuse, so may as well keep a strong face while they die.

Technically you could have an alien race that is utterly Caste based Saar, but we know that the Tau fought amongst themselves before the Ethereals so it can't be indoctrination alone.

If I could suggest something to Tom and Dawn(I can't but if I could) I'd as them to make a parody of the Na'vi. They work far better as a villain alien race than a hero one.

A pure black outline is a bit harsh considering no other textures in the game have it. Try a softer gradient. The edges should be a deep grey that gets lighter until it matches the rest of the mace.
On the contrary, the black outline does match the show's style and makes it look more cartoony. It is a little weird seeing Hatemace as a cube though.

What's funny is the tau were basically created for GW's big push into the Asian market so they decided to make a race of physically weak squint eyed vagina heads with hyper advanced mechs and also threw in a brutal caste system to boot. It's like they were trying to make the most stereotypical Asian faction possible. But hey it worked 40k is fairly popular in Japan from what I hear.

But is it because of the Tau?

Bruh.... I know it won't happen, but could you *IMAGINE* the hype if it were revealed that Lez reincarnated into another realm and became Space King?

Crossover of the century!
A one off "What If?" episode would be fuckin' skitz.

Also pairs well with the popular theory that Space King is off getting high & banging bitches (Quinno's teacher.)
