Space King - Original Series by Flashgitz

This might be exactly why: small run multi-cavity tooling overhead for all those big detailed unique pieces.
Probably why unbranded independent board games stick to card stands or those ugly fucking wooden meeple.
3D print them then, I'm absolutely not buying "On no woe is us, we HAVE to charge 150$ for a bunch of frayed cardboard and cheap disposable plastic, there's simply no other way we only have you, the fans, in our minds when we charge 300$ for the complete deluxe edition, no really."

If your board game "complete" edition costs more than a brand new PC, I don't care what the excuse is, unless the pieces are literally handcarved out of fucking gold or some shit you deserve the wall.

It's a brand cohesion thing. You're merching out an already successful property rather than banking on board game sales, so it's better to over-price it and have it look great than to maximise revenue by making it affordable but less snazzy. If it looks cheap, like the first edition of every amazing award-winning german game that comes out with a bunch of wooden blocks and shit photocopied onto toilet paper, that reflects poorly on your successful thing. Especially for video games which are already monetised with zero reproduction costs, it's basically just a vanity prestige side project.

But yeah I'd go with resin prints if it were me. That's feasible enough now that some wargaming minis use it for primary manufacture (although I don't know how they look in person, and any "I could have printed this at home" feel detracts from the thing I just said). But I imagine lead time and scaling is potentially better with injection, if you're selling something that already has an audience.

I hope they cheap out and just use the carcassonne thingies as game pieces. They're already shaped like psycho warriors and come in many bright colors

The game should be something brain dead simple like chutes and ladders too

Eh, these games themselves pretty much always suck so it's basically some shit to display on a shelf. Like a fucking limited edition nerd statuette that just sits there, it's disposable income bait anyway.

Its 99% likelyhood gonna be a wargame.
Yo actually something like Memoir '44 would suit it pretty well. You can be a wargame and still kinda braindead! (and fun)

I'll play devil's advocate and say I understand where the overpriced board games come from, though I can't necessarily speak for all games. I've seen what comes in a Frostpunk box and they are massive. Yes it's mostly cardboard but the packing had to be designed for use since you can't just dump everything out. Color printing is expensive but not as expensive as custom plastic minis. Even an injection molded mini first requires someone who can design the mold, then someone who can fabricate it, and now that mold can only make one thing.

Designing has a cost too. Monopoly doesn't need a whole team to write rules. For an RPG like Frostpunk you probably do. You need to design a whole roster of characters, enemies, and encounters, then balance them all.

The reason games like monopoly get away with it is because they know that Hasbro is a giant toy company who can operate on slimer margins and probably get really good deals with companies they always work with. If you're a manufacturer who is asked to make plastic minis for some indie game that got kick-started they are going to charge more because it's a riskier business. They aren't going to be pushing large volume.

The issue with these games are usually scope. They just can't produce these limited run games at a price that more established companies can. But you have to make your board game bigger, with more pieces, and more ways to play because you need to stand out of the crowd.

I wonder if they are gonna try to do stuff with Zach? They (mostly Tom) seem to love their independence and are too autistic to be chained down.

The board game shit in general seems like selling something to 40k fans to fuck around with.

I love the show but the fanbase is even gayer and more annoying than 40k fans were at their peak. They suck dick with such enthusiasm it's hard to tell if they're actually gay or ironically pretending to be gay

I have to find a way to post it on the Space King subreddit since I got permabanned for hatespeech.
It's funny, I make a reddit account so I can have a technical conversation. It lasts for about 15 minutes of browsing the site until I see some faggotry and have to call someone a nigger. Then, knowing my account is going to get banned, I go around harassing as many people as I can until "Anti-Evil Ops" nukes for me the 10,000th time. Wait four days, rinse and repeat.
