Didn't see anyone else talking about this, but Super Mario Sunshine speedrunner AverageTrey (AverageTreyVG on YouTube) just made this video where he talks about his struggles with his voice, and how he had a recent procedure to "fix" it. In the video he drops uncensored footage of his surgery (which was also in the original thumbnail) and mentions he was diagnosed with Asperger's at a young age. In a drastic turn at the end of the video, he mentions he is "doing another kind of SR... transitioning from the SR of speedrunning to semen retention" and promises to make more videos dedicated to the topic now that he is seemingly done with speedrunning.

That sudden switch was fucking hilarious, really. Of course half of the comments on the video are all like "omg semen retention is psuedoscience don't go into the manosphere and become a right-winger" as if that's actually a thing that happens. I subscribed to him because of his Sunshine videos (one of the few speedrun-related creators I can stand watching) but I'll give his new SR obsession video a watch, I guess. This is definitely a better hard turn than the kinds of hard turns people who speedrun usually go into.

I'm not gonna lie, I had no idea he had Asperger's after watching his edited videos for years. Then he mentioned it, and in the same video, played uncensored surgery footage (which is whatever, but just a strange thing to do) and then started talking about semen retention; it all finally clicked. I was driving when I was watching the video and I genuinely was laughing so hard when he started talking about edging.

i get your point, but there are correct ways of doing autistic levels of speedrunning also
compare shift, dark viper who play 24/7 the exact same game and suicide bait about how their life sucks because they simply MUST play a single spongebob or gta 24/7 to make a living (they SHOULD get spammed the ltg meme)
but if people just really like a game or how it is to run it, even if they spam it or whatever, as long as they're not a faggot about it and do other things in their life, and don't simmer in impotent rage, it just becomes something like a long term hobby personal achievement
personally i'd also stress people WERE happy with top 1000/100 etc depending on population, the people that have "you either first or last nigga" become shift
