Speedrunning Thread / Speedrunner Community - GOTTA GO FAST

People also forget that girls and women used to make fun of and socially ostracize boys/young men who play video games.
The cherry is when they pretend they were gaming since way back, or even toss out a few names as if they were actually playing those games.

Look, i don't care that you didnt play video games back in the day. Im not here to police what you did for fun, even though you weren't keen to extend that same courtesy to me. Whining about you is time I could spend playing vidya.

But fuck off with the disingenuous attitude that you were "always in this space". I have not met one single adult human female that was born with ovaries and still has them that knows what Chrono Trigger even is, other than the name of an "old retro" game.

Otome-type games (eg harem games except 1 girl + multiple guys) are one of the few instances where I can believe a homosapien cis-woman if she says she was "always in this space"

An otome game[a] (Japanese: 乙女ゲーム, Hepburn: otome gēmu; lit. "maiden game") is a story-based romance video game targeted towards women with a female protagonist as the player character. Generally one of the goals, besides the main story goal, is to develop a romantic relationship between the female main player character and one of the secondary lead characters, who are usually male.

This was back when society acknowledged that everyone had their own interests and spaces and that was okay. Like how girls like romance movies and guys like action movies.

Then "inclusivity" happened and every demographic was shoehorned into every space and because of that we are witnessing the possible collapse of Hollywood and triple-A gaming.

The first otome game is generally acknowledged to be Angelique, released in 1994 by Koei in Japan for the Super Famicom, and created by Ruby Party, an all-woman development team division of Koei.[1] The game was originally designed for pre-teen and younger teenage girls, but became unexpectedly popular with older teenagers and women in their 20s.

Imagine that. In a time before wokeness, there were actually all female game devs who did their own thing for their own audience.

who did their own thing for their own audience.
Its not too far fetched I suppose. After all, if memory serves CLAMP did MKR for a female audience, and of course Sailor Moon was aimed at girls.

However, I wonder if the places these things were more common might not have been in Asian markets, where gaming might not have gotten the same "nerd" brushing it did over in the USA.

Back on topic, I love speed runs... Almost exclusively without commentary or a picture of the runners doofer face in the corner. I like the skill, not the "improv night" routines, and it doesnt surprise me in the slightest that troons glommed onto yet another "look at me" angle.

AGDQ lost me the instant I saw a window distracting from the gameplay with a squad of bored looking, dumpy appearing stereotypical "nerds" slouching in their chairs, and I've never looked back.

Yes videogames have become more mainstream and with that there is also a bigger pool of people in these communities and events. Which also means more money is involved because there is more interest in it. Which means that to be as attractive as possible to a big as possible audience means you need to keep a completely clean image. Which kills the "free" vibe it used to have, because back then it was for peanuts pretty much.

I love the old AGDQ and I agree the vibe there was good and fun to watch. It was a smaller underground event with quirky autistic humor. Which was actually kind of funny. It had a lot of charm.

Now it's ran like a company so there is sponsors whispering in their ear, they have to uphold a perfectly clean image, etcetera. Different time. It's not the same event anymore. Except the runners themselves, I know a lot of them still go there. It's now split in two: the event itself plus the smaller events by runners themselves (meeting each other, hotel parties, etc.) The event itself is a seperate thing now. I think back then it was more amateur so it had more overlap.

This stuff happens so much in other stuff as well. For example underground music often has a very tight knit community with a lot of creativity. Then once money starts to get involved and people blow up within a few years that whole thing is kind of dead. You just gotta be there at the right moment.

That being said maybe we will see a new event come up. Who knows. I watch Kaizo Colosseum sometimes for example it has a cool vibe. But even they as a smaller event emulate the modern AGDQ professionalism just without the LGBTQ emphasis. Although much less. It has more of that old school AGDQ vibe.

In general streamers have become more professional. There are not a lot of chill BIG streamers just playing videogames talking shit. I think back for example to old Reckful streams. Most streams/streamers now became emulators of pop/mainstream streamers so to speak. You get cancelled instantly if you go a bit outside of the book. So they all act similar.

I don't think it's the LGBTQ stuff that killed enjoyment of AGDQ it is just the money and needing to uphold a professional image. It just doesn't fit the event that well. For me that is the biggest negative. LGBTQ is annoying but whatever man back then there were a ton of "weirder" people in the crowd too.

There definitely were some women into vidya even back in the day, but very few and they were usually autistic weirdos or hardcore nerds. I've met a couple irl even.

I swear I'm not a "omg capitalism and money are evil!!11" type of guy, but I do hate how money changes things like this.

Did not know about this Kaizo Colosseum thing, will check it out, cheers for the info.

Fuck GDQ and trannies but I can't understand the mindset or angle of being against Doctors Without Borders. It's one of the very few noble causes still left in this world. Whatever you may think of the recipients of the endeavour's efforts, the doctors involved in such a program are shining representations of the human spirit. Very nigger-brained to shit on that tbh.

Do you want a bunch of ungrateful welfare leeches being drop-shipped to where you live and shitting up your neighborhood?

People also forget that girls and women used to make fun of and socially ostracize boys/young men who play video games.

Oh but now that video games are popular now and a bigger industry than Hollywood, females want to feel included in video game spaces?

Fuck off cunts, apologize for the sins of your past sisters first.
Correction: most of the "women" who want to insert themselves into these kind of spaces are just mentally ill men in drag larping as chicks.

Those of us with sense know it's a male dominated space and are okay with just watching.

Eh. The ideology behind the institution is literally to medically save lives no matter the context. It is a pure and noble goal within the context of medicine as vocation. That the world is shit and doing good, from a human perspective, can be a bad thing ideologically, is not the fault of the individual doctor. I don't begrudge priests going into prisons to try and save the souls of the most abominable humans either.
It's a very beautiful goal until one of the migrants they saved from drowning rapes a girl, which happens very often.

My sister is and was a legit gamer her entire life, because my dad bought us an N64 so that he could play NASCAR and Offroad Challenge. In the mid 2000's, it was fascinating how people treated her for it. The girls in her school despised her, but the boys treated her like she was a god. Which in turn only made the girls hate her even more out of jealousy. Her one female friend was a scene girl who didn't like video games, she just hated other girls so she related to my sister on that front.

And it's funny you should mention chrono trigger because she helped me beat the DS remake at one point haha. But you're right, other than my sister every single female gamer I've ever met was either a late adopter or a total disingenuous pick-me attention whore.

I've been watching minecraft speedrunning lately and they have a tournament like every 2-3 months or so, there's pronouns in the overlay but I haven't heard them talk about any dumb gay bullshit yet, almost exclusively really high level gameplay commentary.

It's been pretty funny the last month or so because Ludwig decided to make it his new thing and brought his usual cocky entitled faggot attitude into it, immediately plummeted to like 150 ELO and almost every day there has been a new compilation of real runners just fucking roasting him for being a moron.

The kids are alright.

I think we just need to rename the show to TDGQ which is Troons Doing Games Quick. Because the original function of cool people doing games quick is no longer the focus of the show, and it's all identity driven.
AGPDQ would be my pick

I dont forget. I was there. "You'll never get a job" "Only losers play games". "Just a hobby".

For all the cultural appropriation bullshit these faggots throw around it makes me furious that now that video gaming is mainstream they want to pretend like they always played games.

And not being satisfied with their video game stolen valor they want to queer around and ruin the games and game spaces as hard as possible.

It makes me want to convert to Islam out of spite.

Funnily enough I used to supervise a bunch of seasonal employees at my old job, one of them was a 19 year old weeb girl who knew about the game (and played it) from osmosis via weebery. This was like two or three years ago so they're out, just rare.

I wish there were more natal women in the hobby just for variety, but speedrunning is just kind of a malebrained activity. I don't see it happening unless we get some sick Sims strats or something

No problem. The biggest problem with money is when it starts to become more important than it is and you lose the "core"/heart of the thing you created. In this case a cool quirky autistic event for gamers.

But maybe this is an automatic thing that happens when more people are involved. More people also means more potential problems so you might need more rules and stuff. Maybe the event being small was what made it fun to watch.

Hard to say what exactly causes this. Like I said it happens in so many other things. Just look at some older game developers who were hugely successful and now they are shells with no creativity.

Yes, "loser" "virgin" and "nerd" were the go-to derogatory terms for boys who liked video games back then. That was back when nerds and nerdy hobbies were the lowest of the social pecking order. Now that nerdy stuff is cool and popular, the OG nerds are supposed to forget the bullying they endured for the crime of liking comic books and video games?

And not being satisfied with their video game stolen valor they want to queer around and ruin the games and game spaces as hard as possible.

At least with military stolen valor, the fraudsters come from a place of respect for military veterans and what they did. Video game stolen valor is like spitting on a Vietnam veteran, kicking him unconscious, stealing his uniform and war medals and cosplaying as Vietnam vet.

It makes me want to convert to Islam out of spite.

Islam is right about women sometimes.

It's a very beautiful goal until one of the migrants they saved from drowning rapes a girl, which happens very often.

Until it turns out that the raped girl was a BLM supporter/SJW, then it becomes beautiful poetry.

One indicator of autism is the singularly-focused obsession on something, in this case, resetting the game 1000 times until the RNG (eg luck) works in your favor so you get the perfect run (and that's ignoring human mistakes along the way).

Speedrunning is an incredibly socially isolating and autistic activity. Females need attention and social validation and simply don't have the necessary levels of autism needed to climb the ranks in speedrunning. That's also why troons are overrepresented in speedrunning: because they have incredible levels of autism and they are social rejects who can't hide the autism power levels to flip burgers as a stable job.

Apparently males have better eye to hand coordination than females but I don't know what the science says on that.

Chess is segregated by sex, even though on paper, there is absolutely no reason it should be. Chess as far as I can tell, is a completely intellectual activity and in theory, the leaderboards should be 50% male and 50% female.

And it's funny you should mention chrono trigger because she helped me beat the DS remake at one point haha. But you're right, other than my sister every single female gamer I've ever met was either a late adopter or a total disingenuous pick-me attention whore.

I knew a woman who knew Schala's theme from YouTube but didn't know the game it was from.

As an adjacent topic to this, I would like to point out that Bandai Namco's long running Tales of Japanese RPG franchise has pretty high levels of female audiences despite it not necessarily being female-targeted. The characters in this game are almost all beautiful and pretty, and that description applies to the male characters as well.

ProtoMagicalGirl, if you're going to cosplay as a true and honest woman, the least you could do is cross your legs in a feminine manner you disgusting freak.

Makes you appreciate the rare true and honest women you see who do actually get into speedrunning. Like spotting an endangered species of animal. I saw one woman do a speedrun of Kodelka. She was amazing, was informative about the run and what entails and was able to keep me entertained without needing the help of secondary commentators. I forgot her name which is shame but it's always nice and refreshing to see something like that. Plus she owned some really cute bunnies that she showed off on stream too.

In similar vein, I've known guys who haven't touched a single game in their lives and they are as every bit as insufferable as you could imagine. And if they have touched a game, it's either some form of shooter like CoD or some licensed sports game. If I'm listening to a piece of music from a game, they'll comment that it sounds nice and where it's from, only to scoff at me when I tell them it's from a video game and then listen to them tell me that it's not "real" music.

What gave the early GDQs their magic was the small, comfy feeling of seeing a small group of dorks who were really passionate about their hobby use their knowledge and skills in that particular hobby to do something productive instead of wasting away in their dungeons all the time. Like with almost everything, you introduce corpo as it gets more popularized and it increases traffic and money earned at the expense of sucking away what made GDQs so great to begin with, the runners themselves. It's not fun to watch an event where everyone is being grossly performative and posturing themselves, where people are constantly walking on eggshells and afraid of stepping out of line for fear of getting banned and ousted from their friend circles and where they have to spend every waking moment kissing the asses of the troons who are running the whole thing.

He can't do that because he'd just crush his balls.
Wait, does he have balls or did he already chop em off?
Eh, I dunno and don't care to know. Just keep the gross thing off the screen.
