Now that the Flintstones comic is ending, I decided to look into what future stuff there will be for the Hanna-Barbara characters. I have to say making Top Cat a Batman villain is just a stupid idea. Sure there have been oddball villains before, but they weren't anthropomorphic cartoon characters, either. Not to mention, from what I remember, Top Cat was a good guy at heart.

The Jetsons
and Snagglepuss I have mixed feelings on. And Ruff and Reddy's reimaging is well, something. I give these people props for trying new things, but it's like they're trying so hard to be edgy/dark that it feels like something is missing. As for Scooby-Apocalypse, I'd like the series more if it didn't take itself so seriously. It can still be a darker take, but have a little more fun with it.
I could see the Top Cat thing if it was like a tongue-in-cheek, non-canon mni series like Archie vs Punister or Batman and TMNT, but having him as a regular, recurring DC character it is kinda stupid. I think the recent Howard Duck comics at Marvel weren't that bad (haven't read it past issue 2 though), so I guess there's precedent for cartoonish looking characters working in a kinda-sorta realistic comic book setting, but I'm not holding my breath here. I just hope this won't end in Top Cat and Catwoman porking...

It's probably been said already, but I hate it when comic companies decide to "kill off" a major character like Superman, Batman, or Wolverine, only to turn around and go, "Nah. Reboot the fucker," and bring them back to life again.

So I'm finally getting around to reading Sandman. Hit the serial killer convention issue.

That's probably the single most disturbing thing I've ever read.

In Marvel's case, it always seems to happen within a year of a movie coming out:

-Amazing Spider-man (Doc Ock replaces him)
-Captain America: The Winter Soldier (Sam Wilson takes over)
-Guardians of the Galaxy: (after rebooting Star-Lord to resemble the movie version, Kitty Pride takes over the role)
-Thor: The Dark World (a few months after its release, Jane Foster replaces him)
-X-men: Days of Future Past (X-23 takes up the mantle within a year)
-Captain America: Civil War (Riri's announced as Tony Stark's replacement)
-Thor: Ragnarok (well, Banner's already been killed a few months ago)
-Ant-Man (the new Wasp; Nadia apparently means 'hope' in Russian)
-Mockingbird appears on Agents of SHIELD and almost gets her own spinoff show...and we saw how her own comic turned out.

And they wonder why the comics aren't selling. The characters people liked in the movies got brushed aside in the name 'diversity' and crappy writing.

That's amazing. Kids going to look for the characters they see in the movies can't find them, so they don't buy the comics and ignore them. It completely puts them off and then they just watch the movies for the characters they like, ignoring the comics and never going back.

I know this has been brought up before, but reading the second volume of the new Flash Rebirth stuff made me so happy that I found myself with a goofy grin on my face for almost the entire book. I actually like both the older redhead Wally West and the new young black Wally West. This is the most I've enjoyed reading a comic in a long time and reminds me of why I started to love comics in the first place. I don't even know why this is so good to me. I just love it.

As much as we love to rag on the shit stuff, like America Chavez and Mockingbird, we all know that the real reason we read these things is for stuff like this. It put me in a great mood today. What's the best comic you guys have read lately?

I also found my old copy of Anya's Ghost, that was a trip to my junior high years.

Aside from The Flash, DC has a lot of good books in their Rebirth lineup. The best ones are probably Batman, Superman and Green Lanterns. If you like both Wally Wests, they're each in the lineup for Teen Titans and Titans.

Personally, I think it would be great if Injustice 3 was based off of Crisis on Infinite Earths. You could have pre-Crisis Supergirl (hopefully she'll get a happier ending), the second Dr. Light, Barry Allen's Flash, Harbinger, Psycho-Pirate, Superboy Prime (before he became a dickbag), etc. I wasn't sure if this would fit, but I think it would be fun.

What surprised me about the Rebirth special is how it actually got me interested in seeing what happens with the younger Wally. I hated the kid when he first appeared because they wrote him as this odd "hip" stereotypical thuggish black kid. After that he was poor copy of old Wally before the Rebirth hit. Internet journalists were fucking furious about it for "lessening" the character though. I don't know why they feel we should repeat Wally West again but (half) black this time.

Anyone have any hopes for what I assume is Rebirth's conclusion, "Doomsday Clock"? I'm hoping the JSA are a central part of it and it doesn't get overshadowed by Marvel Legacy coming out at around the same time.

I think after Rebirth NuWally will be taken on a different track (at least in the Flash books themselves. He'll probably be really similar in the Teen Titans books and such imo), but they need to do a lot of things before he can really develop on his own. TBH I want old Wally and new Wally to interact more than I want New Wally and the Barry to. It would create an interesting dynamic between them and could easily be used to highlight their differences. But only time will tell if we get writers who try. I'm hopeful, though!

I'm also 100% on board with the JSA, as is basically everyone else I've spoken to and read online. There is no way in hell Marvel Legacy will overshadow it. Marvel Legacy is a soulless attempt to keep what fans they can by throwing a plastic bone at us without admitting to the reasons their attempts at "diversifying" the Marvel cast didn't work out. Hint: the 'diversity' wasn't the issue. Whether or not you like Geoff Johns, it's obvious that he cares, and that is far more than anyone I can really think of at Marvel at the moment who has any kind of storytelling power.

Also, seeing as there's going to be a Black Lightning TV show, I'm hoping they launch a Black Lightning book. I've read a few issues from the 70s(?) that were pretty lit. Anyone know of any good runs with him?

I don't think Doomsday Clock is the conclusion of Rebirth, but rather another chapter. Given the way Manhattan and Mr. Oz have been built up, it feels like something that's going to be concluded in a Crisis-tier event, rather than a stand alone mini series.

I thought Doomsday Clock would've been that Crisis event. Then again, they promised us two years of Rebirth and it's only been one.

Yeah, Doomsday Clock is like, a four issue mini I think and it's supposed to be self contained, so no tie-in issues. From the solicits it sounds like they're going to actually show Manhattan instead of just implying he's around like they did in the Rebirth Special, Titans, and The Button. My prediction is that they won't actually fight, but at least have a face-to-face and maybe Superman learns the full extent of what Manhattan has done to the timeline. The next year will probably be focused on the build up to the Crisis Event.

So the Power Rangers annual had some pretty great stories in it. I'm shocked how legitimately good that comic is.

I'm really, really hesitant to say the least. I'm not a fan of the fact DC's been trying to integrate Watchmen into the DCU in the first place, and I really don't trust Geoff Johns to write Manhattan particularly well.

So thought I'd pass this along - something is going on with Amazon's Kindle/Comixology store in regards to their marvel comic lineups... namely that nearly everything is freaking dirt cheap, talking about like 80-90% off. I tried it out and was able to purchase seven graphic novels for less than $20. There hasn't been any announcement about this yet by Amazon, so most people are thinking its a glitch, but one that has been apparently been going on for an entire day. All the same- if you're looking for some older collections and don't mind having them in digital, might want to check this out.

Or just torrent it, but you know what I mean.

Cap'n Cummings also had a video about it earlier on, and he's thinking that it's Marvel getting desperate for money, but I dunno...
