wait so are Abigail and Wanda proper villains now?
Abigail is full villain now

Wanda is simply corrupted by the evil stench of Krakoa in that she let Toad get tossed into the pit for a crime he didn't commit, though for what it's worth A. She did beg legit beg for him to be given a get out of jail card ala Selene and Nature Girl only for Magneto to go agaisnt her and push for the pit and B. the recent Sabretooth mini solicitation indicates his imprisonment might be short term in terms of Sabretooth breaking him out too. And for her basically perpetuating the Krakoa resurrection scheme with a new master back-up that can't be destroyed like the physical back-ups can be. And they at least seem to be positioning and strengthening her relationship with Lorna with Lorna as an angel on her shoulder to counter Magneto's growing toxic influence onto Wanda by bringing her back to Krakoa and the politics here.

Abigail being full villain is interesting because there's been plenty of subtext for any of those big secret agency leaders being potential megalomaniacs.

Wanda being corrupted is 100% interesting. Wonder if they'll give Toad some more character development. I missed the Toad from the Wolverine as a principal era from the 2010s.

Toad from Wolverine adn the x-Men was garbage because Aaron regressed him into becoming a total loser AND had his transformation into a Ray Park clone undone to make him a green skinned freak that Husk led on by his dick for shits and giggles.

Best Toad was ironically Rob Liefeld/Peter David early 90s era Toad where he was leading the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants and first started being treated as a legit bad-ass fighter

come to think of it, how did they explain Husk's weird behavior?
yeah House of M was fucking weird

>Wanda is calling Magneto Daddy
Ah, so we've just gone full disregard canon and are rewriting it because people want to make Magento an anti-hero. Wanda is forever tainted by Bendis and Tom Brevoort. At this point just have her, Dr. Strange, and the Vision be revealed to go on some mystic quest with her children back before Avengers Disassembled and the Wanda who went crazy was a magic clone or some shit that got manipulated by Doom during Children's Crusade.

>Brand
Is a Joss Whedon Girl Boss creation. I hate Al Ewing for being a literal British Cuck and embracing diversity like the British cuck he is. Eve Ewing isn't his wife, she's some nigress who writes CRT stuff and her husband is some community organizer. Nick Fury used to be the man who dealt with the insanity of the Marvel Universe, he was the hands on straight man who gritted his teeth to all the crazy bullshit. Brand is some Game of Thrones schemer and it's stupid and boring because it's all too fucking serious when fags like Ewing write.

Thank god I don't pay for this shit.

Aaron retconned Husk's powers so that Paige's mental state affects her power, IE what form she takes when she rips off her skin to transform if she doesn't explicitly decide what form she wants to take. It's implied the death of her brother in New X-Men, Skin's death in the Austen X-Men run, having Archangel dump her, her longtime simp Chamber refusing to have anything to do with her after she threw him aside for Archangel, Emma basically ignoring the Gen X gang once she found a new group of mutants to neglect, and the general existential horror of the Decimation era caused Paige to have a mental breakdown. Hence her increasingly deformed physical appearances and her running off with Toad (one of the biggest simps in mutantkind).

IIRC Toad just kept ripping off Husk's skin until got to one that was her normal form, after they hooked up with the Hellfire Club brats and Toad turned against them while Husk remained by the brats side. This apparently "fixed" Paige and she stopped being insane though in typical X-Men hypocrisy, Toad got banished from the school (even though he helped them against the Hellfire Club brats) while Paige, who never repented, got welcome back with open arms and while they had the two stay together after this, Toad ultimately dumped Paige claiming "he wasn't good enough for her" and "he was a bad seed" even though Paige went full villain and Toad only went along with her and quickly turned on the Hellfire Club brats first chance he could to help the X-Men defeat them.

Something to with her power to keep peeling off her skin to shift form and substance causing mental instability, combined with the stress from losing her brother Jay/Icarus to the attack on the school by the Purifiers.

So i stopped reading X-Men and most of the X-books right around the time of House of M, so I've been out of the loop for a while.

I have picked up a handful of TPBs here and there but nothing totally substantial. However when I found out they decided to write Nightcrawler as a psycho killer, and killed off Wolfsbane in one of the most disgraceful ways ever to kill off a character (just some fucking rando mob), with the exception of glancing at the seemingly bi-monthly "The X-men franchise is getting shaken up!" puff piece, I rarely pay attention to it any more.

So, my question then: in the last four, five years, has there been anything worthwhile reading in the X-books, or has it been just a giant waste of time and ink?

weirdly makes sense and I wish they'd write about the weirder things mutants have to go through in mutations.

that was the age of apocalypse nightcrawler, wasn't it?

yeah i don't even know why we get comic book puff pieces any more.

Hellions was interesting and the leadup to the Krakoa era had some sort of potential that just got shat on.

the x-books are a schizo mess these days because the mutants were supposed to be an allegory for "oppressed groups" and they can't tell interesting stories with that concept because you can't really tell any nuanced story with that allegory any more.

You can't claim to be oppressed when you literally hold all the power and wield that power to protect other members of your group from the consequences of their actions.

Oh... wait a sec.

Maybe the X-Men are still telling interesting stories about modern civil rights movements, just.. unintentionally.

i didn't understand the weird shift in AvX where they yell at the Avengers for not doing enough for mutants. . .

which, has never been something properly explored. like, prior to that it seemed to be treated with the idea that the X-Men handled mutant things.

Found out Dark Horse got bought out by the Embracer Group.
All I know about the group is they seem to own quite a lot of video game and tabletop companies so I guess maybe a few new games based on some comics at best.
I don't think this is necessarily a bad thing for Dark Horse, but I don't know how much IP they own outright. Dark Horse publishes either licensed material or creator-owned work. I guess they own the Comics Greatest World characters, but that's all I
can think of. Unlesss there's some kind of deal where Dark horse helps it's creators get movie or game deals and they get a cut, but the news stories have been kind of vague about this.

Remember when you could read a comic and it wasn’t leading into or part of some big event, like sometimes it was just the X-men fighting the interesting villain of the week or uncovering a secret plot. Everything is the world ending or some such or a secret about the main character’s past, it’s never just a simple adventure. Batman is a good example. There is soooo much canonical bullshit twists related to Bruce’s past at this point that I genuinely feel like it’s inconceivable that there was enough time for it all to happen

yeah i think there's just too much baggage with the Batman family/ Titans/Flash fam and somehow not enough with Wonder Woman/Aquaman/Superman.

ok, Aquaman is debatable.

We've turned her green, made her a good guy environmentalist (who is also a mass murderer), made her a lesbian and now she's grotesquely obese.

DC's quest to ruin Poison Ivy continues unabated.

Also, this month's Ms Marvel comic has the Pakistani character becoming an Indian and participating in a large Bollywood dance number.

Wait, what the hell? Poison Ivy's thing has always been that's she's smoking. Who fucked that up?
