the first book for Gotham War is out, people on twitter are screaming about how it's SJW infected and the take is "Batman doesn't donate enough to charity and beats everyone up"
I wanted to come here before the reactionaries post panels out of context and ask, for anyone who's read this story (i have), do you agree with this or nah?
(i also only skimmed the posts above me, but both hitman and preacher are great, yeah, probably the best work Ennis has done. I don't hate The Boys like most others, but it's no where near as good as those two)

I think it's just really stupid.
Catwoman is, ironically, trying to herd cats by putting down rules for criminals, and even when they follow them, it immediately ends in one of them getting killed.
And of course Batman is not gonna say "oh ok they're stealing from the rich only, that's totally fine then, and will have no consequences if allowed to happen freely".
Ok hold on a minute, I just had a thought. This Catwoman stuff if by Zdarsky, yeah?
Is this fucking hack just having another go at the Daredevil plotline he just finished, with DD recruiting an army of criminals to make them do crime for "just causes"?

not quite. it seems the Batman stuff is Zdarsky and the Catwoman stuff is Tini Howard, who is the current Harley/Catwoman writer.
I have not read Zdarsky's Daredevil yet, I've been working my way through Daredevil's stuff, starting at miller and currently almost done with Bendis. So I can't comment on that. but I have enjoyed his work on Batman so far.

I don't normally read Batman comics, but I'll accept your challenge right now. Though I'm going with really fucking low expectations since it's Tini Howard and Chip Zdarsky writing.

you don't need to like it, if you think it's shit i'm happy to hear your thoughts. i just wanted to hear the thoughts of people who actually read the book. I'm not a fan of Tini's writing, I don't mind Zdarsky's but I've literally only seen his Batman.

It's built on an absolutely retarded premise. You don't reduce violent crime by 75% by training like 50-100 people to be cat burglars. A city that size has THOUSANDS of violent criminals, each with their own reasons for doing what they do, and most of them "disadvantaged" not because society is unfair, but because they have severe personality flaws and/or mental illness.

i am curious to see where Gotham War goes, so far the biggest criticism is that Catwoman is screaming at Bruce for beating up homeless people and not donating to charity enough, but i honestly didn't really see that. I saw it more as Catwoman saying Batman doesn't understand what it's like to be so poor you'd turn to crime, she does, so her approach is more specifically compassionate.

I finally got my hands on the new edition of the Black Dossier and the Nemo trilogy. I still have to read the Nemo trilogy, but I sunk my teeth in the Black Dossier as soon as I got it and it was awesome.

The problem with the premise beyond the writers not understanding the criminal mind is that Bruce Wayne and Wayne industries do donate to the poor and try to setup good paying jobs in Gotham. The character of Bruce Wayne/Batman tries to hit crime from both sides by using his money in charitable ways and by attacking the heads of the hydra like criminal organizations and corrupt officials as batman. This has been an answer to the retarded idea that batman is only beating up the poor and mentally ill since at least the 80s. It's beating a horse that has already been beat to death and buried.
The only way I can see this event ending is the creation of a group that grows out of Catwoman's control and becomes a much worse threat to gotham. Another court of owls, but for the poors and cat themed.

They know. They just don't give a fuck. None of them do, which is why the only thing I'm still going on out of pure inertia is x-men. Everything else is creator owned.
On a more positive note, I found some great French fantasy comics that have been translated. Published by Soleil, they're called Elves, Dwarves, and Orcs & Goblins. A lot of stories are episodic, but there's a shared continuity to the world. Art is great, stories are fun (albeit fairly grimdark), but all in all they blow American goyslop out of the water.

Garbage like this is why I really fucking wish someone at DC would just rape/dismember/stick Selina's corpse into a fridge for Batman to find (and keep her dead a good two decades minimum) or give her another round of extensive electro-shock to irreversibly turn her back into a villain who commits vile crimes and gets her shit kicked in when her "flirting" with Batman amounts to "let's murder Robin so we can fuck"....
If Batman must have a fucksleeve, either pull the trigger on Babs/Bruce (which would have considerable novelty in that the comics have never done the pairing), bring back Vicki Vale or Silver St Cloud, or do Batman/Wonder Woman. I'm sick of Selina/Bruce and I'm doubly sick of writers letting Selina bullshit constantly with zero blowback/counter where, be it the Reeves movie or the Nolan movie, Selina gets to talk bullshit about how justified she is to be a criminal, all because she's a fail-daughter who's pissy that she came out the wrong vagina and as such, grew up poor and didn't have the quality of character to accept not coming out a rich woman's vagina and growing up spoiled rotton or to get a job and work for a living.
Part of me is fearful it's just going to end with Peter getting about ready to throw MJ off a bridge (after crippling Paul the human cockblock) and Sin Possessed Peter calling MJ a whore for immediately letting Paul seduce her/use fake kids to emotionally blackmail her into common law marrying her, only for the sins to be expunged from Peter and for MJ to then tell Peter to fuck off, because "fuck you reader, that's why".
And the other part of me is fearful that the sins won't go back into Norman after they are purged but instead end up going into poor doomed still rotting in prison Ned Leeds, because Peter's a cunt who's greatest sin (since Marvel is hung up on that notion) is how Peter repeatedly fucks over and abandons and fails (with a level of malice you only see in the truly incompetent who pride themselves on being a screw-up) and Ned will be turned against his will into the new Demogoblin. And probably be stuck like that indefinitely because "fuck you, that's why".

just read the next issue of Batman. honestly didn't think it was that bad, curios to see what you people think of it. it wasn't amazing, but you get to see Batman fight the entire Bat-Family, which was entertaining at least.

Should note that Spencer retconned Norman's turn to evil by explicitly stating it's due to Mephisto corrupting him in order to get Harry's soul to use against Spider-Man and Mary Jane. Along with the plot point that Otto actually DID put the goblin formula back into Norman against his will to re-corrupt him and it not doing anything to Norman.
