Ellis is a lazy fag who still needs to finish Fell.

Yes. Although at least in Fell's case it's kind of an episodic thing so it being left hanging isn't as bad as something with many different threads of narrative being suddenly cut off.

newuniversal still stands out in my memory because Ellis just announced 'the ancient laptop I kept all my notes on for newuniversal crashed and I don't have a backup. Series is done because I can't be bothered retracting my thoughts'. At least Hickman got something out of it when he incorporated it into the Secret Wars run-up.

Also I forgot how stupid Heroes in Crisis was - per this video. (These three guys do some pretty funny videos, probably because they're normal human beings with nerdy interests rather than supernerd autists; just avoid the ones with the chick in them, they're not as good.) Or maybe I just didn't really think on it too much because I didn't take the whole thing very seriously as it was obviously stupid at the time and would be memory-holed to the extent possible. But Harley Quinn easily defeating the Trinity? Awful plot and some bad characterisation aside, that is Squirrel Girl Doom level jobbing, except unlike Squirrel Girl, we were presumably meant to take it seriously.

Where are the comics?

Here ya go.

(not even going to point out how embarrassingly lazy the artist is. that first panel is pure insanity)

:story:

How are Marvel still in fucking business? The MCU is the only thing that they've been doing right, and every time I saw Craptain Marvel onscreen I wanted to tear my eyes out in Endgame.
Marvel * and DC * make most of their money from merchandising.

This isn't a new thing either why do you think the 90s Marvel cartoons were so toyetic?

Shit, that Doom Patrol Omnibus is thick and heavy as hell and it's very uncomfortable to read, outside of the physical complications the story itself is a very good read so far, I'm really liking the relationship between Cliff Steele (Robotman) and Kay Challis (Crazy Jane) and the visuals are really captivating, I really get a Persona vibe out of the first few pages already (currently on issue 3 of Crawling from the Wreckage). Still though, huge thanks to @Tor Lugosi for linking me the website, thanks man!

Before I bought Doom Patrol, I actually saw the live action show itself and I really enjoy the show, looking forward for Season 2, I know it's a sister series to Titans but I saw some video of this one guy talking shit about the show, is the show any good?

Besides Grant Morrison's All Star Superman, are there any other works you guys would recommend?

Like, in terms of Grant Morrison work? Animal Man, for sure, and Arkham Asylum. Those are probably the most universally well-liked of his work, along with Doom Patrol and All Star Superman.

Pretty much everything else by him is some level of divisive. I'd suggest The Invisibles, personally, but I know some would disagree with me.

These guys are great for the reasons you mention above, Ethan episodes are best btw.

I personally really love his JLA run and it is well deservedly described as the best Justice League run ever, his Batman has a interesting premise and is heavy focus on old school continuity but also moving the character in new directions, he also did a excellent story in Legends of the Dark Knight #6-10 with stunning art by Klaus Janson,as for recent works his Green Lantern is easily the best book DC is putting out right now.for his more indie work check out Nameless (crazy sci-fi) and Klaus (A Santa Superhero story essentially).

Yeah, that one was pretty great. It's called Batman: Gothic and they just printed a new collected edition of it recently that you can get for pretty cheap.

The idea behind Legends of the Dark Knight was that they were adventures early in Batman's career, meant to capitalize on the success of Year One. Gothic in particular is about Batman's first encounter with the supernatural.

I was just thinking about how great LotDK is,
Nebulously in and out of continuity so writers just go crazy with it, no Comics Code Authority, Condenses Batman's earlier mythos into a tight package with modern writing sensibilities, It's a shame DC is not reprinting/pushing more of this stuff, or if they were smart do the Digital version like how they used.

There's an old run worth reading that's a similar theme, Batman: The Cult. Doesn't get talked about much nowadays but I thought it was pretty memorable.

Batman: The Cult is seriously one of the best Batman stories coming out of the post-crisis era, it's super cool for two reasons it's a Jason Todd Robin Story and it has killer art by the great and sadly late Bernie Wrightson(Classic Swamp thing and a plethora of Horror magazines in the 70's) whose strength with horror and the surreal on display in the book.

Also since are all fanning out about Horror Batman I got a recomendation of my own and thats Batman #452-#454(Batman: Dark Knight Dark City)
Just a super neat book with fantastic art and was later re-incorporated for good reason and then again not so much, you'll know if you have been reading modern Batman. Also if anyone has any other cool horror related Batman comics I'd love to hear about them, because sadly we don't get enough. :(

This Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight stuff sounds really cool. What TPBs should I buy to get into this (I can only find the single issues).

The sad thing is this series does not get much love for reprints outside of Batman: Venom(#16-20) because after issue 20 they deiced to not be so rigid with story length, so people started writing 1 shots, 2-parters etc that would be nightmare to try to collect and market 20 years later lol, that being said there is a new printing of Batman: Gothic (#6-10), and recent trades for Batman: Shaman(#1-5) that came out in 2016 and Batman: Prey(#11-15) in 2012 which also contained its sequel story. Here's my dark horse pick but it only every got reprinted once in 2008 but I think it is worth mentioning, Batman: Going Sane(#65-68 ), its just a radical Joker story that got shot down in the 80's because it was "too much like The Killing joke", but it's really about The Joker snapping after he "kills" Batman and he has to reconcile that he has no purpose now and forges a new life.

Also DC uses the name "Legends of the Dark Knight" for hardcovers collections that focus on prolific Batman artists, while these are excellent its not what you are looking for. e.g https://www.dccomics.com/graphic-no...11/legends-of-the-dark-knight-jim-aparo-vol-1

Why did DC hire Michael Bendis? He's fucking up Superman and I can feel the meme about Marvel being super SJW with his new characters and changes intruding into DC.

Nobody on any part of the political spectrum has anything but disdain for Bendis, and him continuously getting to do whatever the fuck he wants at Marvel, and now all of a sudden at DC, convinces me that he actually is Purple Man IRL because there's no other way you'd ever let him skullfuck your business this way otherwise.

Doom Patrol is all-time fav for me. That series stayed strong for 80+ issues. Agreed, the Cliff/Jane dynamic is great. I hope the edition of the book you have includes the awesome covers.

In addition to the stories I've seen mentioned already I would suggest Shade, The Changing Man by Peter Milligan or Brat Pack by Rick Veitch (was a 5 issue mini I think).
On a totally different vibe I also suggest the original Mask series by Arcudi and Mahnke or The Tick by Ben Edlund (stay with an original B&W version).
And I'll assume I don't need to mention The Sandman series.

With them recently collecting Post-Crisis Detective Comics and Batman in chronological order in the Caped Crusader and The Dark Knight Detective collected editions series', plus Shadow of the Bat collected editions, I'm hoping they eventually start doing likewise with Legends of the Dark Knight. Right now, though, only the aforementioned Gothic collected edition seems to be readily available.

As for other horror Batman stories, Matt Wagner's two minis Batman and the Monster Men and Batman and the Mad Monk were great. They're supposed to be releasing a collected edition of Wagner's work on Batman later this year, which I'm looking forward to because right now both of those stories go for ridiculous prices.

I wish they'd also start collecting the '70s and '80s stuff more thoroughly. Frank Miller and (even worse) Tim Burton get undue credit for returning Batman back to his noir roots. By the time either of them had gotten to Batman he'd already had nearly two decades worth of more grounded gothic and crime focused stories

Honestly, save for the few good parts of Rebirth I've heard about, I don't think Superman is having a good time anywhere. Be it movies, games, or tv.

I guess people like Injustice, but that's just an evil AU.

You would think their second biggest money maker besides Batman, would get more love. But not really. Bendis is just one more in the line of people that want to "make Superman more relevant" and fail at it badly.

Maybe the issue is that he needs good writers that actually like the character instead of people trying to "fix" him with a lame gimmick? Just saying.
