I know a lot of people who hated the last twenty-ish years of Spider-Man that are now back to enjoying it. It's almost enough to get me back into the character... but I'm a huge continuity fag and skipping almost twenty years of stories bothers me. I've tried reading post-OMD stories a lot over the years but there was always something that annoyed the shit out of me that made me go back to dropping it, be it a horrible story arc or the constant loser manchild characterization of Peter during that era.
As for Batgirl, I remember largely liking Kelley Puckett's run on it. He wasn't great at story telling (iirc, he finally 'fixed' Cassie's inability to speak via a random guy just happening to have the ability to rewire brains) but I liked his characterizations of Cass, Babs, and Stephanie. I remember also getting bored of it around the 'Cass has a crush on Superboy' shit but his run ends shortly after that anyway, which led to a revolving door of writers and around that time they killed off Spoiler for a while, too. From what I remember, Puckett had some stories that DC nixed which led to him quitting. One in particular I remember him talking about was Cassandra finding religion. No idea how that would've turned out but it would have at least been interesting, especially relative to the slog that the book became after he left.
