Yes. But that was pretty much the one saving grace. She's one of my favourite characters but I also hate it when they mess with her being the best martial artist by throwing in people who are better than her.

Also, the ending was dumb.

that's just how DC is. there's a billion "best" in the world. how many number 1 assassins are there? Shiva, Deathstroke, Deadshot, David Cain.

same for martial artists. Shiva. Richard Dragon. Bruce Wayne. Cassandra Cain.

everyone wants their character to be the best. remember that time Cassandra beat Shiva with one punch?

You're probably not meant to think "that poor guy was probably only in the army because of the economic collapse of his country resulting from punitive war reparations to France which in turn were so severe because the US was demanding repayment of its war loans and now the poor guy is having to go one to one with a literal immortal demi-goddess who has just thrown him spine-first into pile of jagged rubble."
Don't forget Woodrow Wilson, who wanted a less punitive treaty, had a stroke and was basically a brainless idiot who let everyone walk all over him. That very treaty was the result of Wilson being too weak, as the result of a stroke, to keep the French and other vicious assholes from turning what should have been a reconciliation into something that caused the entire German people to rise up and decide to conquer all of Europe.

Alfred Pennyworth is my favorite superhero.

Oh shit.

The new Superman movie was actually pretty solid, but I am an easy mark for anything Lobo shows up in.

I'll grant you it had some decent parts. I frankly have had my limit for Superman origin stories though so I was unlikely to love it. I'll give them this though - they actually did the Main Man the right way. The scenes between him and Lois Lane made me laugh.

I'm oddly partial the Lobo in Young Justice for some reason. "Keezy Femme".

At least they kept it fairly true to the character (no attempt to modernize it or make it dark n gritty ala Man of Steel or the New 52) and left me interested in where they go from here.

Its the rare Modern DC project where Superman feels like... well, Superman.

Toss in an interesting way to tie in Lobo and Martian Manhunter, not a bad little flick, even for one thaf treads familiar ground.

Am I the only comic book fan who remembers the works of Terry LaBan from the 90s?

Just curious, how dost anybody here get their sequential art fix these days? For me it's been a combination of buying physical copies online from online retailers, including the occasional title directly from some small publisher - buying e-comics and :cough: the occasional reading stuff online for free and not paying - though to be fair I mostly do that to satisfy my itch with older comics, especially from the 60s-80s that can be hard to find, and pricey as well because of every retailer who believes "old comic" = "should be a ridiculous price", prices as determined by what someone I saw referred to as the crazy great-aunt's pricing guide - like your older female relative who found some beat-up old Archie Comics digests or tattered 70s anthology comics while digging through an attic or such and thought they were worth a lot of money.

I haven't visited an actual direct market comic shop in a few years - not that I've soured on the very idea of brick and mortar comic retailers, it's just gotten too easy to get what I want online, and the nearest comic shop I would consider stepping foot in is too far away to justify the expense of driving there and back on a semi-regular basis.

My experiences with comic shops include the good and the not so good and the awful - though I've had a few Friendly Local Comic Shops over the years I used to consider regular stops. The first shop I ever went to as a regular, well it was a bit of a dump, but for the most part an alright place - I'd seen worse before and after, and better but it was what it was.

I'll refer to this establishment as "Green Star Comics", not it's actual name, but vaugely close enough. GSC had it's faults, the people there would order ridiculous amounts of the latest HOT comic and sometimes not a single copy of certain other titles, including mainstream DC and Marvel ones. Disorganization in the back issues, including some not even priced properly, and a bargain bin area that was barely in any sort of order, special orders that might come in months after they were made, if they did, etc. Though they had a decent selection of comics from publishers other than the Big Two, including smaller ones you may not have known about unless you were wired directly into the Direct Market since 1980. True, you'd have to sift through the back issues, especially in those spots where disorder had set in, but it was sort of worth it.

However, Green Star compensated for these faults by having friendly staff who actually engaged with their customers, would offer recommendations to people about books and other things that were coming out that they'd probably be interested in but might not have heard about, they weren't like some clerks at stores I've seen who were openly contemptuous of the folks buying their books at best.

GSC was my place for about three and a half years before I had to move away, and then not too long later, about ten years ago, I learned that after a couple of changes of management and ownership they had shut down. They had even mostly vanished from the Web by then, my searches turning up mostly a couple of passing mentions on a few sites listing them as a place to buy collectible card games. A few years later, stirred by memories I idly did a search for the place and it had completely vanished from the internet by then. It's funny, to still have something of a faint attachment to that dump, or maybe not so funny at all.

I mostly read scans and then buy the bigger TPBs (the ones that collect like 12 issues instead of 4) and omnibuses for the cheapest price I can find online. Most recently I bought the Untold Tales of Spider-Man omnibus since I missed it during its original print run.

I haven't stepped foot inside of a physical comic shop since I was a kid. I've seen a couple in my city but my interest in anything past 2010 is so low I just don't see the point.

I haven't set foot in a comics store since 2016 or 2017. I honestly just get my fix via ReadComicOnline.li nowadays. If I latch onto a great series or creator, then I make up for my thievery by buying their product on Amazon or InStockTrades.com.

There is only one comic book store in our town. I step in on occasion just to see if there are any back issues of 90s comics I can find. They almost never have a single issue of Cud on file. There has been literally not one title I wanted to buy in over 25 years. I go into the only comic book store in town (possibly the whole state) out of habit more than anything these days.
I did buy the Peter Bagge Hate set online. The store in town charges 2x as much as the online price. But this has been a practice of theirs ever since I can remember.

Last that I know, he almost married Selena Kyle if she hadn't opted out.

i'll give you a quick recap of like, the last year and a half.

Batman was going to marry selina. She left him at the altar.

Batman fought an "evil" version of Thomas Wayne from another reality because Thomas thought the best way to make Bruce stop being batman was to ruin his life. (???)

Bane took over Gotham with the help of evil Thomas Wayne.

Bane killed Alfred with the help of evil Thomas Wayne.

Batman defeated Bane and took back Gotham and beat up his evil dad. Bane then killed evil Thomas in Arkham.

Joker then in revenge for Bane killing Alfred, which he felt was a wasted opportunity to torture Bruce kills Bane in revenge. (not sure if Bane actually died. hasn't been explained yet)

Joker then uses some big master plan from an old criminal mastermind called The Designer (google it or ask me for more details) to steal all of Bruce Waynes money.

Joker in full control of Bruce's money launches a full scale war against Gotham.

Batman defeats Joker but loses all of his money and assets in the process.

Batman is now fighting a Cyberpunk themed group called the Unsanity Collective while Scarecrow does some shit.

Gotham now hates Vigilantes due to the new one eyed Mayor of the city.

that's about a full recap of the last year and a half. lemmie know if you need any more detail on anything specific.

oh and since you mentioned Harley she is now a "member" of the Batfamily and is on Bruce's side. Which honestly? I think is a great idea, it's just she's still unfunny female deadpool. lose that part and I think Harley is at the best place she could possibly be.

Selina decided she can not marry Bruce because that'll make Bruce be happy and she believes Bruce can not both be happy and be Batman at the same time and it is more important for him to be Batman.

uh Mask of the Phantasm I BELIEVE is happening in Batman/Catwoman which is written by Tom King, who is the same person that wrote all this Bane/Evil Thomas Wayne shit.

I read the first issue and did not read any further because I thought it was bad.

so it's going badly to answer your question, I suppose.

if you want some bad ass batman though, read Batman Urban Legends I think it's called? has one of the best Batman fight scenes in it I've seen in a long time where he actually uses fear. Lot of comics talk about how scary Batman is. This is the first one in a LONG time I've seen him actually be scary in.
