Business Spirit Airlines files for bankruptcy protection amid growing losses and debt - Flight ticket sales and all other operations will continue as normal, the company said Monday, just 10 days before Thanksgiving.

Spirit Airlines said Monday it has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection after having struggled with losses, growing debt and a failed merger during the post-pandemic travel lull.

The company said in a stock market statement that it had secured a prearranged deal with bondholders that includes $300 million in financing to keep it afloat, with the business planning to end its bankruptcy in the first quarter of 2025.

Ticket sales and all other operations will continue as normal, the company said in the statement just 10 days before record numbers of travelers are expected to take to the skies over Thanksgiving.

“I am pleased we have reached an agreement with a supermajority of both our loyalty and convertible bondholders on a comprehensive recapitalization of the Company, which is a strong vote of confidence in Spirit and our long-term plan,” Spirit CEO and President Ted Christie said in a statement.

He said in a letter to customers, “The most important thing to know is that you can continue to book and fly now and in the future."

Spirit, based in Dania Beach, Florida, had already deferred $1.1 billion in debt payments until next year. It was last profitable in 2019.

The deal comes with a commitment of $350 million in equity investment from bondholders, which it said equates to $795 million of outstanding debt.

The company's share price fell from $3.22 to $1.15 last week after The Wall Street Journal reported it was preparing to file for bankruptcy protection, closing at $1.07 on Friday.

The company has had a tumultuous few years, with an engine recall last year and a U.S. district judge blocking a proposed $3.8 billion merger with JetBlue in January. Spirit said last month it would cut jobs and sell 23 older planes in a bid to save $80 million.

Industry analysts said at the time that the court's decision left Spirit with few options but to face a likely restructuring and bankruptcy.

I thought Spirit Airlines got bought by JetBlue?
Nigger did you even read the FP? The Biden administration blocked that merger, citing concerns about reducing competition in the marketplace.

Because obviously a company going bankrupt and shutting down overnight without warning increases options for consumers instead, right Biden? Gads ... what a disastrous administration that was.

How does this work from an employee standpoint? Go fuck?

I mean presumably they have employment contracts, but this is Spirit airlines.

I also find it strange Trump was considering amtrak in the sky considering how much shit he gave Biden for loving amtrak.

I also thought jet fuel was pre-negotiated and had price locks, but apparently airlines turn it into fuck fuck games with hedges and swaps.

I do find it interesting that the government is not looking to bail anyone out anymore, they are offering LOANS, which I feel is the smarter choice.

Moocow, think very carefully on how you feel about the blocked merger. We might have seen QUAD NIGGERS walking off those planes. Louder, Bolder, Stinkier. We'd have to redesign tasers entirely.

The gas prices should effect all airlines equally, but only the one with he really terrible reputation seems to be shutting down? They are trying to pin it on gas prices, when really it is probably reputation. This is just a convenient time to do it with less blame.

For a moment, I thought the article was talking about Spirit Halloween and wondered how things managed to get that bad.

Effectively yes. One party to the contract is very shortly going to be insolvent and will exist only as a husk.

I'll never forget how a Spirit passenger just came over and tried to pick a fight with me while I was waiting for my bags from a completely unrelated flight.

Or how I was on a shuttle with some Spirit F/As a few weeks later and their response to the story was "Oh yeah. We get that a lot."

As much as I don't want to see a private company get a government bailout, especially a company too fucking stupid to raise rates to the point where they're still crying about covid half a decade later. I'd prefer not to see the retards and niggers ending up dispersed on every other airline. This is awful.

Is spirit the waffle house of airlines?
Kind of, yeah. It attracts the most niggers and retards who can't keep from causing problems. Fights in the terminals, fights on planes, drunk retards causing issues, etc. Something like half of the airport bodycams are due to Spirit customers.

Last year I got their credit card so I could save some money on booking a flight with a statement credit and some points that way. By doing this, I was able to get about half the cost of a flight on their first-class with Spirit First (it was the cheapest option at the time vs other airlines).
A couple of months ago I spent said points to help fly my mom out for a family visit, in spirit first too.
I'm glad I got everything used out of it before they shut down.
Sun Country
They got bought out by Allegiant.

Spirit – known for its bright yellow planes and “no frills” service
This no frills thing is a misnomer and their biggest handicap. Spirit costs less for the primary service, but they nickle and dime you for every goddamn thing. By the time you pay for all the little shit a normal airline charges, you're basically at the same price.
It also makes them look like cheap asses and attracts niggers that don't math good. Little wonder they're circling the drain.

i doubt they will. the budget airline let them fly, the major carriers are super expensive and jewing everyone over everything. worst case they fly AA. for me, southwest and delta cover my needs. AA's domestic hub at lax is the worst of lax.

the majors wont take kindly to shines. the must have headphone rule is already a good shot at the poor retard demo being banned.
