With a Splinter Cell remake announced, I figured it was the right time for a Splinter Cell thread. Since the last one came out when kiwifarms barely existed, it's no surprise that this classic franchise has been overlooked here. I've been anticipating Sam Fisher's inevitable return to the forefront every year since about 2015, and have increasingly lost faith year after year for Ubisoft to do the franchise justice as we've slowly crept further and further into Current Year ™️ .

As I see it, the best way forward for the franchise is to adopt a Hitman type of formula. Or, just go with the old formula since it's ok to fucking make a normal single player game every once in a while. But who am I kidding, it needs to be always online, open world, and you need to be able to unlock a rainbow uniform for Sam or open lootboxes to get a neon Miami skyline skin for your gun or whatever fucking retarded ideas they're currently brainstorming to ruin another franchise and alienate the core audience.

So whether you're new to the franchise, or one of those oldfags yelling at the sky that Conviction is a thing, now there's a place to discuss the franchise specifically.

I have zero faith in Ubisoft to create a proper remake. If I want to play Splinter Cell, I can go play the original trilogy with no issues.
I will admit though, it was sad to see the slow death of the series and Blacklist actually did look like they were at least making an attempt to return to form post-Conviction.

Point made after first six words.

Considering the major problem they seemingly have with senior staff sexually exploiting young women, the pedo-cache hedonism and rat-king of absolute lies which was The Division 2, the recent helpings of human shit going by the name of Far-Cry… it would be a Jesus-Tier rainwater-into-Sauvignon Blanc miracle if Splinter Cell wasn’t excrement of the most concentrated kind.

Funny enough, I was actually looking at some videos at random regarding this game series last month.

I think it was Splinter Cell: Conviction

Splinter Cell peaked at Chaos Theory, which I replayed and beat a few years ago. Double Agent was the last game that could be considered good (removing the more precise and perfectly functional light/noise meters from CT really chapped my ass, by the way) and just like with KOTOR I'm not going to be happy to see how this remake gets fucked up. Ideally it'll only be $4.99 to unlock Golden Elite Sticky Shockers right away instead of having to grind Intel Points by collecting supply drops.

Is Michael Ironside coming back?

If not, not gonna bother. I agree with the other poster that said Blacklist was good but it's a shame it bombed.

Michael Ironside as Sam or no go for me.
The new guy sound WAY TOO YOUNG.
By the way for some MASTER level stealth gameplay I recommend this channel.
He is a veteran and practices his runs and plays on the hardest difficulty.
I think they'll bring him back, I believe the reason why he wasn't around for the newer ones was cancer treatment he didn't expect to survive. Very glad to hear he got though that.

Coming back from the dead to voice a videogame character? I hope so.
He's not dead. He came back to voice darkside too in that harley quinn show.

Knowing Ubisoft, it'll be an open world where to progress in the main campaign you have to complete 'unique' side quests missions revolving around four different tasks, three of which are tailing in different vehicles.

Why have Faith in a remake if they still need to release beyond good and evil 2? Does it even still exist?

I'll never forget me and my cousin on Christmas day 2002 playing the first game with our jaws just on the floor.

But a direct remake seems odd given it's story, tension with Georgia in the year 2004, real exciting and relevant subject matter for the 2020s, but on the flipside to that since Splinter Cell is one of the few games of the era I never got around to giving a more recent replay, a remake would be a perfect way to revisit it, provided they don't fuck it up.

What a great series this was for a while there, although they lost me with Conviction.

Agreed.

I played through the original, as well as Chaos Theory. Enjoyed both immensely. Ironically, the game made me good enough at stealth that I later breezed through Manhunt.

"Who the hell are you supposed to be... does anyone else see a bionic commando? I think I've got the DTs!"
