SpongeBob bumbles through the multiverse in new adventure game - THQNordic at it again

Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated is absolute garbage, people only like the game because they know about the original.

The game fixed literally almost nothing from the original and added new bugs that fuck up the original game like the rocks in the Mermalair Main Chamber level that get turned into obstacles because they decided to give them Collision which is something that wasn't in the original.

It doesn't help that instead of putting effort into re-adding the cut content from the original, they decided to make a throwaway raid mode. And the other additional content they added was so many shitty memes because that's what's hip and cool, right?

On the topic of that, they deadass made the baby Patrick meme a small companion for this game.
And on the other side of that is how they specifically used Band Geeks because that would pull people's heartstrings. I just see what they are doing and I don't want to be those types that clap because they recognize the reference which I foresee will be double the amount that was in the original Battle for Bikini Bottom.

Now to end this off, the game's enemies look super generic, they remind me of Globs of Doom and the plot appears to be just as generic with it doing the whole Multiverse thing that seems to be all the rage now.

I just know it's going to be on the same shitty level that Rehydrated was on but worse because the developers don't have a pre-existing game to just copy and paste this time.
But I also know that people will just eat it up because they liked the first game and will get off to all the references that they will put in this game.

Edit: here's a video that talks about it, I don't agree with every one of his points but it still showcases a lot of my problems with the remake.
Clipped out the Lou2 part (and dumb skit ending as well).

I understand what he was going for but it doesn't matter if the gameplay is better than the first one if it (as a story-driven game) has a shittier story that has almost nothing to do with the game setting.
Nigga its a teaser trailer.

Yeah, I know that but still, my point still stands.

Again it’s not the biggest thing in the world but I just noticed it mainly from what the common reaction to the teaser is.

Which again I can’t blame them because that’s what they want, after all the newer SpongeBob stuff has become the same way when it comes to referencing pre-movie stuff and that seems to be going well.

They probably are just big SpongeBob fans which is what I think is the same case with the new showrunners but even still, it just came out as kind of scummy to me.

But again, it’s just a teaser trailer that are just meant to create hype for the product so I don’t know.

Either way, I don’t know, it was just something I noticed and wanted to bring up because I founded it interesting.

imagine getting this butthurt over a remake for a fucking game about spongebob that was clearly made to get money off retards and kids

So THQN are releasing Destroy all Humans 2, Jaggard Alliance 3, Outcast 2 and Superpower 3 along with this. And they're focusing on the actual games, not doing what saints row did recently with a cringe CGI trailer then insult fans when it isn't well received.
They're actually focusing on games and not telling me how I'm evil. Which is also funny cause Embracer owns both THQN and Deep Silver but shows what the priorities of marketing/upper management are at those places.
They did censor stuff in destroy all humans, which is weird.

This is going to be a half-assed game and all the nostalgia fags of my generation aren't going to notice or give any fucks about it.

It's already happening with Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl. The game is going to be released extremely soon (within the next month or so) despite it being unpolished as fuck. There is no voice acting, it's just a Melee clone, made by a team of dudes who are already known for making "one of the best Melee ports" or some shit. You'd think the hype and endless amounts of money would force Viacom's hand to make an actually good game, but no. Anything to save a buck these days!
In NASB defense, that game is working with a low budget so it not be AAA quality (whatever that means these days) is to be expected. There are plans to improve upon the game in the future as confirmed by this interview and what was shown gameplay-wise looks pretty fun despite all it's notable flaws.

Edit: Oh and NASB is being worked on by different developers

THQ business model is to buy ips cheap. remaster or remake them cheap but not of poor quality, and if they do well move onto the next game they could do or make a new follow-up. It's why the Destroy all Human remake and Spongebob reused the voice acting from the original game.

They somehow found a way to make the games very cheap without fucking up the quality, Darksiders 2 not being a hit was the death knell for old THQ, however, THQ Nordic with Darksiders 3 was able to during the month and a half following its November 27 launch recouped the game’s development and marketing investments.

All about that AA games, they realised trying for that one huge hit, takes way too much time and money, and more likely to lose that money. They also know most of these games or series have a prebuilt fanbase, and the safest way for the games to make money is by appealing to that market first rather than going for a new group who by not even want the game in the first place.

In case you are wondering what is THQ owns

I personally can't wait to see what they do with Alone in the Dark.

But the funny thing is Saints Row is from Deep Sliver, which has the same parent company as THQ now. Crazy how different they are.

Imagine caring about IPs made for children at all. I loved Spongebob as a kid, but if they came out and said there would never be a Spongebob anything ever again my life would be completely unaffected because I am an adult and am not still emotionally attached to a TV show I liked as a kid. Maybe the game is fun, but anyone still emotionally invested in this shit is stunted.

One could say that the Battle for Bikini Bottom was following the whole Samurai Jack robot smashing kind of thread and Spongebob has messed with alternate universe concepts like a medieval one in Dungeons and Dragons for example.

Still feels like it's going to be used for only baiting and the only original thing that we know is the weird bubble monsters which aren't the same as how BFBB handled it where the references weren't everything for the game and had tons of cool original edition like the robot doppelgangers and Prawn as the two big ones.

They were super lazy with Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated with the only original content being the shitty multiplayer and memes for no reason.

But something interesting that I foresee them possibly doing is having references to the Movie or the Movie Game which won't be remade even if it technically is a sequel to BFBB which is because the game is out of date but interestingly it has nothing to do with the weird legal issues that the movie had because those seem to have been solved with The Goofy Goober along with other stuff showing up new episodes.

But back to the topic at hand, if they pull something like this then I would be done with it because the Movie Game wasn't the best but still had good elements about it with the Trench level being a highlight for me personally, it would all depend on how they handle it and they did drop the ball with Robot Squidward after all.

I am not a big fan of BFBBR, but it wasn’t lazy. The developers were super strapped for time like the Nick All-Stars team, so they couldn’t do much. Nick had a lot of rules and gave them literal months to develop a full game because it had to release with the SpongeBob Movie, which was delayed. Add in Covid complications, and the production was a disaster as they lost time for the flu and Nick wouldn’t budge on a release date even with the movie being pushed back.

Which game are you talking about? In the case of BFBBR they remade a game while fucking up things about it somehow like putting collisions on objects that weren't supposed to have any for example and again the extra additions they did make were so shitty that the game would have been better without them in the first place.

In the case of the Movie Game, I like things about it but it really flops when compared to BFBB, especially with how the enemies are reskinned over and over and the mission structuring it has is ass which that along makes it sadly inferior.

Was BfBB:R successful enough for THQ to continue making Spongebob based games?

It sold 2+ million copies as of last year, that’s apparently enough to please THQ Nordic and Nickelodeon in terms of profits and costs and justify making The Cosmic Shake.
