‘SpongeBob SquarePants’ Spinoff Series ‘The Patrick Star Show’ Set At Nickelodeon

Say what you want about the Simpsons, but they never had a spin-off show…

I’m not counting “The Critic” as that was an independent show with a single crossover episode. Same with Futurama and that other Groening fantasy show on Netflix nobody talks about suspiciously…

they almost did after the episode that had steamed hams aired but that never went anywhere

This is just another spin-off that's going to follow the same formula all spin-offs use; Character has to suddenly leave to go back home, we're introduced to a whole new cast of characters that never existed beforehand, it shares nothing in common with it's original series and there will be sparse guest appearances of more popular characters to remind you of where the show came from.

The Patrick Star Show is just The Cleveland Show.
This one’s apparently a prequel

Funny you mention that, someone actually made the same comparison by using an altered version of The Cleveland Show's intro to open his parody:

The Patrick Star Show is just The Cleveland Show.
The Cleveland Show actually had some merit, despite being a Family Guy ripoff.

Doesn't this show recton some of Patrick's family from earlier episodes of Spongebob? I don't know what I'm looking at.

This seems like a one-off episode of Spongebob as a joke. But they dragged the joke down to be its own television series. How long before this quietly gets shafted? Or just made to DVDs?

Not counting "Rule of Dumb" since they were only pictures on a family tree, they did recently show up again in the episode "Patrick's Tantrum," which aired two months ago. They appeared in a flashback explaining why ringing a bell makes Patrick throw a tantrum and appeared at the Krusty Krab near the end of the episode.

Nearly twenty fucking years after their debut.
This is the new strategy to trick people into watching SB again. I checked out some new episodes recently and they were filled with in-jokes and characters from the early seasons that haven't shown up otherwise in ages, like Bubble Bass. They literally made a fucking episode about the "MY LEG" guy. Pathetic.

somehow despite the episodic format you need to have been watching forever to "get" most of the new episodes because if you just jump straight into season 9+ spongebob it is bizarrely unfunny without the references.

just like post-movie simpsons. Homer is funny because he's Homer, not because he does anything funny.
