Rose is unmedicated. She doesn't have a single diagnosis, it's all self-diagnosed and from that one time she talked to a psychiatrist. She claims to have just gotten back on Medicaid after being kicked off for two different reasons, which vary depending on when she answered the question. 1. When her mother divorced her father. 2. When she turned 19.

For a long time, Rose was claiming to have an unspecified eating disorder that prevented her from eating without feeling guilty.
Here is a very old photo of her. I don't know how old it is, but I'd guess this was maybe 2011.

However, this was spurred by a doctor telling her she was overweight. Keep in mind she's 5'4, so if the 140 pounds thing is correct, she would be just under a BMI of 25 (I think).

On ppurpleguy, she then claimed that she had spent all of her birthday money trying to feed herself. This was in late 2013, I think.

But during this same period, between begging people to tell her it was okay to eat, she would pictures that tumblr would consider "Fatspo" aka beautiful pictures of food that is really bad for you.

She doesn't talk about food anymore, so I don't know what's changed.

I find it slightly hard to wrap my head around the idea that someone who was that thin could balloon like that without meds and struggling with an eating disorder.

My guess on her weight change: boredom and complacency. She doesn't seem to have hobbies or goals outside of tumblr. We never see her talk about something other than tumblr and kin. She doesn't even seem to play the games she obsesses over, just latches onto characters. We've never seen her say "I'm going to play x for a bit" or "I can't wait for x game to come out". I haven't seen her mention a single hobby or activity or interest that aren't tumblr related or came from tumblr fandoms, now that I think about it.

My point: When you're going between mind-numbing work half your day and sitting on your ass in front of the computer for the other half your mind is lacking stimulation. A lot of people make up for that subconsciously by stuffing their face. Once you've put a sizeable amount of weight on it takes a conscious effort to fight against the hunger to slim down, since you get hungry quicker and need more food to maintain your body mass. It takes self awareness to note this and work against it, which Spring doesn't have.

In a way you could call that an eating disorder, sort of. Food addiction a lot of the time comes from people feeling unfulfilled and getting a quick fix of fulfilment through eating.

So an anon apparently posted this while I was busy working on school stuff.

Anon, whoever you are, stop trying to ween. Forcing emotional reactions out of lolcows is an unsustainable way of observing them. More likely than not, the lolcow in question will become more reclusive and paranoid to avoid harassment, meaning nothing for us to observe.

Insurance wise if your parents work for a place that provides insurance you're supposed to be able to stay on it until you're, I THINK 28, it was raised recently.
If they're fired/put on welfare/put on disability I'm not sure what changes.

I don't want to speculate too much about the weight issue, because honestly, weight is like the least of Spring's issues, but my guess'd be that there's something medical going on? Maybe it's just a difference in the photo quality, but the older pictures just look generally unwell in addition to being heavier. Could be pills (if she actually takes any), could be environment... could be just terrible lighting, admittedly.
 
Rose is also (at least, up through the point at which I stopped reading Homestuck) a character who's about self-discipline and control of darker urges, often to the point of serving as a voice of reason to her more impulsive friends. This isn't a role Spring wants any part of, because it wouldn't give them an excuse to act out constantly and be a huge asshole.

I'm 5'1" and about 130 lbs. I got a muffin top and a fat ass but I am nowhere near the kind of flabby ole' Coily is in her nudes. I seriously doubt she's 140.

I realize, yeah, her weight is the least of her issues, but it is indicative of her internet addiction and sedentary, complacent lifestyle. I think that could account for some of these bizarre behaviors.

I think it's very probable, given what we've seen, that Spring is practicing lousy self-care across the board, which contributes to how wretched they look. If they're 5'4" and have a naturally small build, which the "before" figures suggest, they could be carrying a relatively low amount of weight really badly? I'm still not sure, though.

Honestly, if Spring actually has any mental issues at all besides being an unpleasant person and a terrible friend/partner, I'd lay money on depression being involved. It'd explain the bad self-care, lack of ambition (seriously, what does Spring even want out of life besides a dreadful Tumblr lifestyle?), and absolute fatalism about mental health. It's a little sad, because even pretty limited medical intervention could help that a lot, but somehow I imagine it's not gonna happen because FUCK DOCTORS, SELF-DXING IS THE BOMB!

I totally agree with this. In my experience, depression can cause quite a bit of weight gain because it's so hard to give a fuck. It wouldn't surprise me at all if that's what happened.

Though, since you mention her future plans, here's what she wants to do with her life (as of February).

Plans are cool and all, but they mean dick shit until they actually come to fruition, and being able to plan shit is not a sign of maturity. Try again.

I doubt she has dysphoria either. Dysphoric people don't post nude shots of their pre-transition body covered in hickies unless they're doing it for monetary gain, often to support their transition, or if it's to compare between their pre-transition body and their body after a while on hormones.

But we already know she lies about every condition she claims to have so this is nothing new.

Is "SFX" San Francisco? Because, uh, from everything I've heard, the cost of living there has gotten so extreme that you're basically priced out of the city unless you're making a six-figure tech-wonk salary. Good luck, barely-functional person who works at a meat market! Dream big!
